I guess I've been conditioned by Redskins history - we draft a QB really high, we get Heath Shuler. We make a huge signing of a free agent, it's Albert Haynesworth. Having someone live up to expectations is not normal...Still, Griffin's season is arguably the best ever by a rookie QB. Marino matched a lot of his records back in 1983 (passer rating, Pro Bowl, led team to playoffs, highest completion percentage for a rookie) but even Marino didn't have the rushing aspect of his game. But if your expectation was the best rookie QB season in history, or at least in 25 years, then that's what they were.

Well the massive price was for his career, not just for this year. So as far as the draft picks I consider that an investment in the future. He's already exceeded expectations for any rookie QB.

I don't think either RG3 or Morris could have done what they did without the other, which has led to the Redskins massively exceeding expectations. But I'm glad you brought up Marino. Since RG3 is matching Marino so many times, we can just add one more to that list.... losing at home to Seattle in the playoffs!!! In honor of that game, my official prediction will be 27-20 Seattle with the wining TD coming on a late, Wilson led drive with a short clock.

Agree with you here. My gut tells me they don't blitz and sit back in a zone on passing downs.

I think that's what we want. The Redskins are actually the strongest team against the blitz. Besides, we want our beef up front forcing their runs outside where we have fast LBs to flow to the ball. Griffin is a 1-read QB so if he doesn't see it he'll take off. We just need to force him to take as many hits as possible with that gimpy knee.

I haven't seen anything but highlights until basically last week, but for a Heisman winner and the very costly trade (2 1sts) that put the Skins at #2 to get him, shouldn't ROY finalist (and presumptive winner) be exactly what was expected of him? I'm not trying to take him down at all, but this is pretty much where he needs to be IMO with the price paid and the hype coming in for him. Wilson obviously way above expectation since few expected him to play at all, much less vie for ROY (a distant second, imo).Morris however, massively over expectations. Beating out Lynch in rushing and TDs (though I think BeastMode has him in combined yards and TDs) in a Shanny system that hasn't really leaned on just one back since TD it seems.

Valid points, but hard to say, ms. Statistically, if you will, there are far more "franchise QB" flame-outs even at that draft position than there are successes, and even then many of the successes take years to really turn it on. Griffin's both a uniquely gifted athlete, even in a league full of them, and is also remarkable for his personality and leadership. He's carried a 3-6 team on his back zs a team-elected rookie captain (with important assists from Cousins and Morris) all the way to a division title and home playoff game. Historically you just don't get that sort of performance from rookie QB's except maybe once in a generation (~20 years). What's impressed me aside from his leadership has been the fact that his TD/INT ratio is not just good but outstanding. Peyton Manning, in my book the greatest QB in the last 15 years and the most recent fully-ready-for-the-NFL rookie QB I can remember (meaning, not running a cut-down offense), threw 28 picks his first year and I believe the Colts were 3-13. The 'Skins have remarkably fabricated an entirely new offense for RGIII, and to be sure it's going to gain complexity as he matures, but no, he's a remarkable rookie QB. To be clear that I'm "keepin' it real" here, I think on a neutral field Seattle is certainly a clear favorite, and the best thing the 'Skins have going for them on Sunday is that they're the home team, 3000 miles away from Seattle. If they lose tomorrow, the season will have been an amazing success and something that they'll build on. I don't see the pressure as being on them aside from the general desire to of course win a playoff game. My read on this overall is the standard playoff game shtick, especially in an outdoor stadium: turnovers, run game, and limitation of big plays will be the primary factors in the outcome.

This game you speak of will be the let down game of the weekend. Washington O with a banged up RG3 as you can clearly still tell against tough D, and Seattle O who did nothing against STL still doing nothing in cold weather against an improving D. Good game, yes, easily the most intriguing? NO

halfway through WC week, this game is really going to have to suck to not come close to the OP's expectations.

Luck took a 2 win team to 11-5 and set the all time passing yards record for a rookie. He also had 28 total TDs. I believe that belongs in the ROY conversation. It is okay to feel otherwise.
