Selvin Young owners (1 Viewer)

I'm not looking for advice here, just more of a strategy discussion. Just curious to see what others are doing/have done.

Obviously the ideal situation would've been to grab all 3, but it just wasn't an option for me. Not that I don't like Hall. I like him, and have invested in him in more than a few teams. This particular league where I own Selvin just didn't shake out that way. Rather than bore you with details of my draft, I'll pretty much just leave it at that. Anybody else pass on Hall and decide to chance it with Torain later in the season?

Watching the Broncos' pre-season games...I am led to believe that Denver will do a 180 and become a "pass first" team in 2008.

I am sure that many will disagree....but time will tell.

I drafted Young in the mid rounds and backed him up with Hall in Rd13.

The future is now in the NFL.

If I had the roster space I would love the insurance. But I don't and neither do most.

Many knowledgeable FBGs are calling for a split here, but I think one or the other takes the job. My money is on Selvin because he added some muscle this offseason but I still drafted Hall.

I would hate to miss out on a top 20 guy cause I was busy drafting backup TE's in round 13.

As for Torain, doubt he gets rostered in almost all leagues, but I'll be watching and looking to pounce on any news when the bye weeks clear.

I think Denver will be a pass first team.to the OP - we don't know what Denver has in Torain, as he has never played in a pre-season game. I believe that we are looking at a true RBBc in Denver, with Hall getting the short yardage/goal line work and Young getting slightmy more carries overall. However, whomever has the highest FF score in a given week will vary.

Who knows how things will shake out w/ Torain - it's entirely possible he is a non-factor, but a likely scenario is that Young or Hall gets hurt at some point, and Torain replaces them in the rotation.

In other words, who knows?

Further, I think that this may be the one year that Shanny's RB competition/ hijinks just didn't work due to injury.

Hey, it happens. Coach has a goood run keeping his opponents guessing as to who to game plan for. Maybe a six or seven year run. Then one year the dominoes fall one by one. The game is exposed. Then like a 3 card monte dealer who has nowhere to run, he just looks up and shrugs his shoulders.

I'm thinking this is that year.

Of course the queen may be in his pocket.

Or yours.

I had the chance to tag Young AND Hall as keepers for the 2008 season....

I had Young for $10 (14 team, 12 man roster) AND Hall for $2

Despite the relatively low salaries, I could not bring myself to tagging them and then spend my entire 2008 season playing Shanahan's game of "who's starting" (who's not) and who's getting the goal-line carry....only to see it dumped to the TE...

Nope, I didn't want to have to start 3 RB's just to ensure I got the performance of a single RB.

In the end I got J. Cutler at QB and T. Schefler @ TE....then paid top dollar ($59) for LT and $35 for M. Lynch.

At least with those 2 RB's I'm assured of RB's that play the entire game AND get the ball on goal line.

I've tried to play Shannahan's game....it is just too costly.

It's the Broncos. If you want to be sure you have their starting RB, roster everyone.

I picked up Hall and I don't have Selvin. That's the best way to play the Denver game imo. I don't expect anything (I don't have a starter) but I *might* have something in a few weeks and I also have something the Selvin owner might want. Low risk/decent potential for reward.

I would not be interested in a trade FOR Selvin, by the way. I also don't want to play the Denver guessing game. I just have a lottery ticket that costs nothing more than a spot on my bench. That's worth it imo.

I like Young... he looks more dynamic than Hall.

I really wish I took Young in more drafts.. currently only got him rostered in one... his draft stock didn't really climb as I thought it would. Hes usually taken around the L White area... and I much rather take a shot at the Denver RB than Fatty's slow a@@

In my auction league, I kept Selvin and bought Hall. Didn't have enough money for Torain when he was called. Lots of guys had too much money at the end of the auction, and a number left large amounts on the table.

Completely avoided Denver RBs in all my other leagues.

Just saw this on Rotoworld:

Andre Hall-RB- Broncos Sep. 3 - 2:26 am et

The Broncos "plan on rotating" Andre Hall and Selvin Young at tailback to open the season, according to beat writer Mike Klis.

It sounds similar to 2006's Bell rotation, with Hall in the Mike Bell role as short-yardage back and Young getting most of the carries between the 20s. Selvin will start and Mike Shanahan rides the hot hand, so a fast beginning at Oakland in Week 1 could make Young the clear lead back in this committee.

I am in the same situation - took Hall late as RB5 ...pick equiv of 11.12 pick in 12 team keeper. Young went equiv of 6.02If he pays off, I have a nice cheap RB to use as Flex/bye week or as trade bait for the Young owner. If Young gets hurt, I have a solid starter.I don't think it pays to roster all 3 Denver RB's, but the RBBC situation makes both Young & Hall lower value IMO.We need 1 to take the primary role. Will Denver pass more? I think they will have more confidence in Cutler and B Marshall has the opportunity to show his maturity during the season. I see a bit of an increase in passing plays, but not like NO does.

Or after a slow start by Young, Hall gets the hot hand and takes the lion's share of touches. Oak has a decent Defense and both RB's could struggle. Or after Denver gets a commanding lead, they give it to Hall to get a better view of his playing character. Too many variables to predict regarding Denver RB's.

Drafted Selvin and Hall is sitting on the waiver wire. Can't figure out which person to cut in favor of Hall. All extra players seem very equal. I will probably pick up hall before the game tomorrow to insure I still can get him.

I'm not playing Denver turnstile at RB with a short bench. I drafted Young late with great value. If he pans out I'll keep him as a backup. If he doesn't I'll drop him like a stone.

this sounds like something I just may do. I drafted young, and Hall is on the WW, but I would have to drop J Norwood for him. I would like to have young's back up but I don't want to commit more of my roster to Den RBs.

I have all 3 in a deep dynasty (30 man roster, PPR). Holding for now.

I have Young in a short dynasty (23 man roster, no PPR). Trying to move Young there.

I don't have Hall, but both him and Slaton are on the WW. Might consider him over Slaton???

If I were a Young owner I would really consider adding Hall to back him up.

Rostered Slaton but with the clusterf**k at RB in Houston picking up Hall might be the gamble for the short term, especially if Hall is sitting on the WW in your league. Slaton does have a toe injury, Green's contract has been reworked, Taylor is there, and, again, Slaton is a rookie. If Slaton is to make some noise it'll be likely be later in the season and if Hall is going to make some noise it could be now.

I have Young and Hall and Pittman is playing? You gotta be kidding...Shannahan pulls another fast one! Now do I dump this trash or not? :hey:

:hey: Not an owner of any Denver RB......But Pittman TD, now he's the goal line back? If your a Young owner this has to be a nightmare.

This is the worst RBBC in the history of Denver.
How true it is. Will be cutting young if he doesn't top 8 carries by games end. Didn't mind the share time with Hall, even Hall getting goaline touches. But I have young in ppr, expect 12-15 carries and 2 recpts. Blows bigtime.

absolutely brutal.

thank god i had the lead against the other team before tonight in my game. a starting RB cannot put up 1.10 points per half.

shoulda just played julius jones

I swore after last year I would not draft a Denver RB ever again while Shanny was around. So what did I do? Drafted Young as my 4th RB.

I really, really hate myself right now.

Gonna learn my lesson here, bench Selvin, and not touch another Broncos RB. He will be there in case I get desperate, but I am not packing my bench with a RBBBBBBBBBBBBBC approach.

I have Young, Hall, and Torain. Judging from 1 half of football, Torain is the only guy with a chance at being "the guy."

I feel your pain brother. Lets hope for some garbage time yards and maybemaybemaybe a TD! Thing is, I started him over Grant, and Grant didn't get what I needed to win the game, which is either 160 yards or a touch and 40 yards. So its not going to cost me the game if Selvin doesn't produce, but it could win me the game if he does. Wasted a 5th rounder is what is tearing me apart. Many of the heralded rookies went 2 rounds later!!!

I was just comming on to post the same thing. Every time the camera is on Skelator I just want to punch him square in the face...or better yet I should punch myself for not staying away from the Den RB's

Selvin heading to the wire for Eddie Royal. 3 carries? Shanny does hate us all.

Or he loves the owner your playing that week. :football:

Well to take the devils advocate approach, Andre showed a little more vision than Selvin, but you certainly can't make a decision on 3 carries. The Broncs have had their way with Oaktown tonight. Throw in Nalen being out and well, as a guy who's 5 for 5 owning Selvin in my leagues, I'm let down, but I also remember Quentin Griffin scoring 3 TDs week one and we had the next TD/Gary/Portis and he was perma-benched before October. Things are fluid here and they don't look good. Could be much more an air show this year, between Royal, BMarsh, Stokely, Scheff and Jax.

Pittman really gums up the works, but the key here is patience. If Hall is out there, grab him. I backed him up in all but one league, but so far a starter hasn't emerged from any of this schmozz.

But don't throw dirt on Selvin yet. I think he's worth a waiver grab too when a few of your Selvin owners cut him.

he was bench fodder anyway.

Eddie Royal got 2 carries himself.

I ain't complainin,' but I need my RB2 to get more touches or he's a WW casualty.
Agreed. I'll cut him if Shanny prefers Hall, which was the case for the entire game leading up to that drive. SY gets one more week for now.
