The show about 4 whores and their mom... lol

Watch this show from time to time with the wife. Not in my top 10 all time or anything, but it's an enjoyable show.

It always gets railed on by guys in the FFA demographic. I expect some "horrible" votes from people who have never really watched it...

What do you think?

I hate, not for the content, but because I really can't stand any of the characters,* the way they look, and how they go about things. The redhead pisses me off the most. Add in the fact that a certain someone from my past (I've seen other girls do this too) treated this show like the women's bible and would often cite the show to back up social points/arguments she was making, it makes me loathe the thing.

* Except for the quiter brunette. She's cute.

It was good until it became a parody of itself in the last 3 seasons. The first 4 seasons are great, but by the last few the characters are overly whiney and annoying.

Really good show. Women who take the show too seriously and use it as their dating or life guideline need to get a grip, but the show did give good insight into how women think and such (see: they are crazy most of the time).

My wife watches it religiously, so I've seen a bunch of scenes. I don't like it since the characters have little appeal to me, but I do have to say it was a very well-written show.

Good call on the brunette (Kristin Davis). Was in love with her when she was on Melrose Place.

I suppose I should add that I'll probably end up seeing every episode since I gave my wife the boxed set for her b-day.

We're halfway into season 2.

If you can detach yourself from the show and look at it objectively, there's a lot you can learn about women from it. The earlier season were much more honest about the way women behave, the last few seasons was to pander to the show's long time fans and the idea of "the fairy tale" The show was heavily influenced and written by gay men, yes there were female writers on staff, but the influence of gay male writers is obvious. Thus the show actually has a lot of not so great things to say about women and men combined. The key difference is a man can watch the show and discern the not so great things being said about men in general whereas women will simply go into denial about how their favorite characters are behaving. If there's one lesson men should take from this show, it's this - Women are Machiavellian when it comes to their "fairy tale" about love and sex and romance. To them, the ends justify the means because they feel entitled. Also you'll see that all the women on the show lack any kind of empathy towards men until they have no choice but to show empathy. The "happy endings" for each character isn't quite as happy as it seems, of course most men can recognize that and most women will go back into denial. Tactics - CountertacticsIf you want to counter women and their behavior, you have to read what they read, watch what they watch, listen to what they listen to and realize how to defeat their irrational narcissism by solid countertactics.
wow - how the hell do you know so much about this show? you can differentiate the seasons? really?I will say though I agree a lot with your Machiavellian comparison and how it's allowing women to justify bad actions if it fits a perceived positive end. Definitely gives the sense that a woman can sleep around and generally treat men like #### but still believe they are entitled to Romeo sweeping them off their feet at some point.

Could never get into it. Characters are overly-analytical and annoying. Plus I hate hate hate the SJP voice overs. If they constantly need to explain what's going on, it isn't a very good show.

You're like the Tom Clancy of relationship posts. Except Clancy knows about his topic.

you don't find any truth in a GG post? honestly?

Don't ever watch it on the regular channels.

I did watch it with my wife on HBO on Sundays. Was part of the routine of watching the Sunday HBO shows. It had some good shows and some bad ones. Overall it was better than I thought it would be, knowing it was a "chick" show. The HBO version has to be better I would think

Some. But it's usually overshadowed by fluff and ranting.

That doesn't make a whole lotta sense. I guess if we take that perspective and apply it to movies, then Goodfellas isn't a very good movie, right?

fair enough. hard to say the guy doesn't have a point most of the time

Goodfellas is an example of a good use for VO. Sex in the City is an example of a bad use. Of course isn't the whole show supposed to be based on SJP being a writer or something?

He used the wrong words. The use of voice over doesn't mean that a show is good or bad. But it does mean one of two things: (1) the writer/director doesn't have the ability to tell the story through the characters or (2) someone doesn't think the audience is smart enough to understand what's going on.Just look at Blade Runner. Both the original and director's cut are great movies. But the director's cut is just that much better.

ETA: As for Sex in the City, it was okay. But I would have gladly offed Carrie for how she treated Aiden. Any chick out there who identifies with her character is a ####.

My wife and I enjoyed the early seasons on HBO and the later ones on DVD. I thought the women in general redeemed themselves when the series wrapped up...

mytagid = Math.floor( Math.random() * 100 );document.write("

- Charlotte ends up with a short, bald guy and their adopted chinese daughter

- Miranda ends up with bartender Steve, their son and his alzheimer-stricken mother, living in Brooklyn

- Samantha ends up with a young male model who is 100x the man than anyone else she's ever been with

Of course Carrie ends up with Mr. Big, but that was inevitable as there would have been a fan revolt if the series ended any other way.

*** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***");document.close();

For a bunch of superficial women, they did all right in the end, choosing substance over style.

Noth is right. I used to work with a gal who wanted to be Carry Bradshaw, and surprise, surprise, she was a self-centered brat who thought the world revolved around her.

Oh, and Noth is right about the Carry/Big relationship the first two seasons. Nearly every problem or fight they had resulted from her overreacting to or assuming something. The Big character never tried to be someone he wasn't, and Carrie was always throwing fits cause he didn't act the way she expected him to.

The movies were fairly different from the show. The first one was okay, although they Hollywood-ed it up too much. The second one was awful.
