Shane Vereen (1 Viewer)

Ok bumping this thread for ppl still in it. Anyone risking playing Vereen in their championship game?

Not sure what to do with him. In one league I'm deciding between Vereen, Gore, and Woodhead. After seeing what Charles just did to Oakland, it's tempting to roll with Woodhead.

In another league trying to decide between Vereen or Spiller. Leaning Vereen there.

The Ravens are a tough matchup for surem, but I don't know if last week was due to the game plan or the Dolphins just simply took him away.

Same ####, different week. Starting Forte for certain. Will need to choose between CJ, Vereen, and Spiller for RB2. I think Vereen still makes it back into my starting lineup at the flex spot over R Woods, Rishard Matthews, or T Eifert.

In the one league I survived, there's no better option (can't play Dan Thomas or waiver scrum like Asiata or Ogbo over him). I would love to bench him but I just don't see a way out of it for the team in question.

I am totally stuck.

I have a lot of faith, I've had him all along for this moment and maybe last week was a blip.

It's at Baltimore, the Ravens defense has done well at home.

I have other options at flex, so I am considering them, but it's bench/WW WR3 material, so basically looking at 1 week gambles.

My theory about offenses playing tough defenses like this is that RBs like Sproles, Woodhead, and Vereen should arguably do well as it's a way for offenses to pop the ball down the field while the defenses aggressively rush and try to swarm the receivers. Ideally that's the way it works.

After a great start for Bush, he and JBell didn't seem to do much.

I'm also thinking I shouldn't hang too much on that big game vs Cleveland, that's just the way it worked. Maybe the Carolina game is a more likely projection.

So, in other words, I haven't made my mind up.

I am probably going with Mathews over Vereen this week. I think Vereen does better than he did last week, but I can't risk another performance like that.

From what I saw the Pats had major protection issues that resulted in a double whammy....Vereen had to pass protect more than theyd want and it also required more quick drops and throws....there really wasnt any time to hit those wheel routes and longer developing plays
:goodposting: Did none of the rest of you watch the game?

Miami was getting tons of pressure. When this happens, RBs & TEs are kept in to pass pro; so Vereen ran far fewer routes. When Vereen did run a route, it was usually from the backfield, and Brady had to throw the ball too soon; sometimes into the dirt at Vereen's feet; many times to quicker developing routes run by Smurfs2.0.

The questions we should be asking are:

1) Will the Ravens employ the same sort of gameplan?

2) Can they execute it as well (or better) than the Dolphins?

3) If so, how will BB & McDaniels deal with it this week?

Even if you think the worst, I don't see how anyone can sit Vereen in PRR. I know I'm starting him in my championship.

I watched some of the game, I saw Vereen in there. He did go out quite a bit from what I saw but he was either covered or as you say Brady did not have time. Frankly this might be a result of Gronk being out.

The TEs, Hoomanawanui & Mulligan (I guess), aren't going to be pass threats. So there's less concern about the smallish wide receivers doing damage downfield so let them run with reduced coverage and keep the ypa down, put a LB spy on Vereen and send the house.

Is this possible?

I am going to have a difficult Vereen/Chris Johnson decision this week.

Only want to start one of them because I want to start all 3 WR (VJax/Jeffery/Allen).

in the same boat...have Gordon/K. Allen/AJ Green...so I'll start those 3 + Gore and flip a coin between CJ and Vereen. Leaning CJ at the moment.

For those of us that survived this week, let's talk the merits of next week's matchup @Bal...

I'm extremely gun shy of starting SV now in my championship game, but am more than willing to listen to those who are diagnosing this matchup closely. This past weekend was super ugly, but I saw at least one play where if Brady threw it a second earlier, it would've been a likely TD to a streaking Vereen across the middle from about the ten yard line. So there was something to hang a hat on.
I'm lucky to still be alive but he's 100% in my line-up this week. I'm chalking up last week to a regression to the mean and I have faith that he gets right back at it this week. Now mind you, in my PPR my options are Gio, Gore, Woodhead and Vereen

Still starting him with Charles as of now over Andre Brown and Spiller.

Hoping for at least 4-6 catches and a combined 60-80 yards rush/rec

This could change leading up to game time.

Vereen will be my RB2 and am deciding between Jennings and Andre Brown in my flex. No chance I sit Vereen. His 5 previous outings are more of an indication of his abilities than his last 1. BB knows he needs to get Vereen the ball to win the game. He finds a way.

Would probably go ray rice in front of Vereen also.
You'd prefer an RB that scores single digits regularly and occasionally will break 10 points over a RB who regularly scores double digits and only occasionally (1/5 games) doesn't break 10? Good luck to you!

Leaning toward Rashad Jennings for his consistency instead but on paper that's a pretty tough matchup.I lucked out despite playing Vereen this past week--going with a WR heavy lineup I prefer consistency in my RB rather than upside. Then again--my opponent this week just broke the historical scoring record for our league so maybe it's all gotta be upside!

In my situation I'm actually waiting to see if Rodgers is cleared to play. If he is I'm considering playing Boykin over him as my flex.

What worries me is that from this point on, defenses will try and mimic what Miami did.

I don't need any luck as I'm not starting either. I love Vereen an started him the last 3 weeks. But as I stated before this game, the loss of gronk hurts this offense and puts more focus on Vereen. So anyway, I'm not trusting Vereen in my championship when I have Two other top 15 options.

Rotoworld:

ESPN Boston credits the Dolphins defense for Shane Vereen's quiet Week 15.

The Dolphins sold out to stop Vereen, using Dannell Ellerbe and defensive backs to limit looks. It resulted in just five touches for the passing back despite 48 snaps. Simply put, Tom Brady looked toward options (Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola) that weren't as heavily defended. Vereen's role is not in doubt and he projects to find more room to operate against the Ravens come Sunday.

Why wouldn't the Ravens just copy what the Dolphins did? I saw them mugging Vereen almost every time he released out. Hopefully the Pats figure out something, which I'm sure they will...

Why doesn't any team just copy what anyone does when they shut down a certain player? The Patriots held Jimmy Graham to a goose egg one week, why didn't everybody just copy what they did? Megatron had a couple of crappy games this year against the Browns and the Vikings....everybody should just copy what they did! That would show em!

With Gronkowski out I don't know if anyone knows what will happen. No one knew last week and oddly enough no Gronk, no Vereen, the offense puttered, and the Pats got beat.

If this was week 3 I might just sit Vereen and see how this plays out. But this is it, one game, and if he has a great one you don't want to miss it. However, the offense without Gronkowski last week looked suspiciously like the offense without Gronk earlier this year, eminently beatable.

Up buy 14 but vereen killed me. Had todman on my bench but in hindsight of course should of played him but c'mon, all we're starting vereen. It's BB stubbornness that killed vereen's performance.

Any chance you could put that in [ spoiler ] tags so only folks that want to see that mess will have to look at it?

Beyond ridiculous.

Benching Vereen for Murray this week. I would rather take what I expect to be sure points against a bad rushing D. Vereen has potential to explode but his floor is too low to risk for me.

Starting him. My choices are Lacy, Vereen, Todman, Ogbannaya, and P Thomas. Lacy and Vereen are definites. Probably go Todman in the flex if MJD is still out.

I will most likely bench him. After seeing Bush and Bell not do much last week (outside of the td run and the long catch by Bell) and seeing how the ravens defense is playing pretty good now....AND after how Vereen got shut out last week...

I'm gonna roll with CJ2k and Demarco

Remember, he had 20 points in week one without Gronk playing. I would play him unless there are way better options available.

With Ben Tate out, I've got a hard decision between Vereen and Dennis Johnson this week. Johnson should get a ton of volume, but Vereen is more talented.

Not sure how much volume Johnson will get if they fall behind quick to denver. How does he perform as a receiver out of the backfield

He has been a good receiver, so I expect him to get plenty of screens.

I don't mind reading the non-obnoxious ones. Anyway, thanks to our friend for finally complying.
