Has anyone heard any explanation for why they haven't been using Vereen in the passing game? In the eight games he played in last year, he averaged nearly six receptions a game (and that includes Week 16 where he got hurt on his only catch and left early). Through the first six games this year, he's averaging three.
Probably has more to do with the fact that averaging 6 receptions/game is highly unusual for a RB then anything else. And 3 receptions/game is actually very good production for a RB.
This. There are a lot more reliable targets now. Also, Ridley has seen a ton of snaps.
So your best guess would be Vereen sees the majority of those snaps?
I can't say honestly, I feel like he is their best option but I do believe they will give Vereen, Bolden, White and maybe even Gray opportunities to earn that role to grind out yards.
Either way if Vereen doesn't win out for that job, I do believe his snap count will go up. Now that the illusion of Vereen being on the field before 3rd down guaranteeing a pass play is gone, I think he will be on the field more to create mismatches.
