They did the recap of that one tonight. Sounds like you were right. I had forgotten about them after having seen the original episode, but will probably pick a pack up if I see them in Walmart now. The gaps in our minivan are just the right size for things to fall into, but too small for my hand to reach into to retrieve them.

And this makes me wonder...

What products have you guys actually bought because you saw them on the show? And are you happy with the purchase?

For me so far it's been:

1) Scrub Daddy - works pretty well for us. I like it.

2) Kisstixx - ordered this because my wife was curious, and why not give her another reason to kiss me? It was kind of neat, but the sensation's not as strong as we had hoped.

 
Tonight Lori did a pretty shark move by putting down the phone purse thing, turning most of the other sharks away from it and then coming in at the end and closing the deal.

The socks, 4th and final segment. The d-bag husband is the kind of guy that drives me up a wall. They did not want to do business with Mark Herjavec and he offered them exactly what they asked for but they wanted to do the deal with a different Shark…I just wish he would have immediately pulled his offer back and said he was out.

 
Laurie is, by far, the most annoying of the sharks. Really can't stand her. If I ever had an idea, I would not make a deal with her.

 
That drop stop thing has done over $5 million so far...so infuriating that a piece of foam with a small hole made those guys stinking rich...I mean they didn't have to do anything but buy a foam noodle and cut a hole in it for a prototype.

I bought the Chord Buddy guitar training device for my daughter. Worked as advertised. Her guitar playing has evolved past using it now, but it served the purpose the creator hoped it would.

 
Still a big fan of the show, but the fame of the Sharks themselves has altered the premise a bit.

The other sharks' collective animosity towards Mark Cuban has changed the way some of the negotiations play out. IMO Herjavec has had enough of making what he feels are fair offers, only to be ignored by the entrepreneur waiting to hear if Cuban wants to make an offer. Cuban seems to have some genuine dislike for Grenier, too.

It was nice to see the Sharks get some push back on the whole "that's my offer SAY YES OR NO RIGHT NOW!" tactic with some solid logic

All that said, this is one of the few shows my wife, daughter, and I actively watch together. Sometimes we will pause it after the pitch and share our guesses of how the negotiations will play out - which Shark will make an offer, what the counter might be, which Shark(s) should the pitch want to be in business with, etc. It's been a really fun vehicle for teaching the kid about business, money, finance, and psychology. And I gotta give the rugrat credit - she was the one who pointed out that if Cuban talks first, it's to tell the entrepreneur that he's out. If he stays quiet, it's because there's an offer coming but he doesn't want to make the first one.

I get why these guys are interested in Cuban, but I don't know, the guy is so famous and connected and busy that I bet he has little time for small fish investments. I would imagine partnering with Damon or Robert or anyone else might give you more actual mentoring/time with the sharks.

Good point here. A lot of handshake deals made on the show break down by the time the papers are drawn up. Don't know if Cuban has a higher breakdown rate that the others, but he seems to be the one most likely to ask himself, "Do I really have time for this?" and either become a silent partner or back out entirely. The recent deal from the show that IMO made the most sense for Cuban was that Haunted Hayride producer. Cuban fully understood the experience-based entertainment idea, the pitchers had proved the concept, and a $2MM investment will get his attention.

Also supporting your point... I've read the Shark who has made the most money directly from Shark Tank investments is Barbara Corcoran, and second place isn't close. Corcoran's investments are usually smaller compared to most pitches, but she rolls up her sleeves and helps turn those $50-80K investments towards $200-500K valuations and turns them into companies doing $1-3MM in sales.

 
I've been saying for a while that Mark Cuban is ruining the show. He has a decided advantage over the other sharks in negotiations.

I love Cuban. He is awesome. But his celebrity has hurt the premise of the show.

My husband and I were just saying this last night. I can't stand how smug she is and would want to wipe that big-jawed smug smile off her face.

I'd be OK doing a deal with any of the others, but my first choice would likely be Barbara, who seems the most savvy to me. One thing I never understand is why Robert seems to get ignored so often--seems like no one wants him for their deals, and I don't understand why.

100% true. The dude who had recycled shoes or eco-friendly shoes, Damon backed out shortly after the show. It's TV first and foremost.

 
Just saw the 10-31 productions company, Cuban flexed in that spot. He has been dying to have the most invested on the show, wants to prove he is the biggest. He swooped in and rolled over Damon, classic Cuban and he understands the game that is happening there.

 
Herjavec just comes off wimpy. If you have some software or tech type company he might be of value but then you are in Mr Wonderful's territory and he just seems to know his #### a lot better. Herjavec is usually out more often than not so when he does make a play for something he almost looks out of his element. He plays the victim on the panel very well.

Anyone watching Shark Tank Tuesdays on CNBC? They are showing old epis including the season premiere from 09. Barbara, Mr. not so wonderful, Robert, Damen and some guy I don't recognize is on. Anyone know who that last guy is?

 
Just caught the episode with the forensic pathologist. You can tell he spends more time with dead people than live ones. Totally didn't get what was happening around him and didn't know how to deal with people. Had a genius product, though.

Was he the one who had the wall-patch kit? I thought he should have taken the deal that gave him double what he was asking and they took over all the manufacturing and whatnot. Seemed like a no brainer to me since he still could work his full time job and see a check come in every month for a product he doesn't even have to look at any more.

Exactly. But he wanted Robert & Lorie to team up because they were his wife & kids' favorites? Didn't get it at all.

 
Yup. Hole fixer guy made a horrible deal. Gave up a huge chunk of his sales, got no relief on the logistics. Just brutal

Yeah. I think he thought he was on a game show or something. Now he has to build an entire manufacturing operation and a business around this thing, just because he had to get Robert, and in the process only kept US rights. Instead he could have kept 85% equity, given the whole thing to Damon, and never had to work on anything ever again.

I think he got caught up with the dollar signs in his eyes. I thought he must have figured that Lorie would handle the US market via QVC and Robert would handle the rest of the world.
 
Why in the world did those stanford girls get a 10 mil valuation? Plus the 2 sharks are only getting 2.5 percent each. Hardly seems worth the time. Didn't get that one at all.

Well they get on QVC and they easily double their money in the short term.

My other guess is this is a hot topic in the toy/development/tech world so I wouldn't be shocked if Cuban knew how to turn it into a 50-100 million dollar company pretty quickly. Unlike some of the companies, this had a pretty big market that isn't getting served.

Cuban was also saying part of the deal is for his 2 girls to work with them to learn about hard work, rather than them feeling everything is a given for them since they are rich.

IMO Barbara is the worst and adds the least value. Put her out to pasture already.

My kids love the show.

 
I really like this show, but one thing which is really starting to bug me about it is the number of sob story pitches that are showing up. It isn't as bad ad Extreme Home Makeover, but the Japanese dude crying about how he couldn't gt married unless a Shark gave him X thousand dollars was getting a bit much.

This trend seems to be getting worse over the past couple of seasons...

I did love the pitch were they said to the guy who wanted to call his CFO that he couldn't since he was the guy who gave them the bad valuation.

I don't watch the sob stories or any pre-produced packages other than the updates. I don't care. I just want to see the pitch & negotiation parts. Fast-forward to the rest. This is one of those shows I will only watch on DVR after it's fully recorded.

Not sure how you can do that when the sob story is part of the pitch and it's why the Japanese dude got a deal.

She's one of my favorites. And iirc, as of a year or so ago all the sharks said she had made the most $$ from the investments on the show. I could do without one of Lori, Damon, or Robert.

It humanizes Cuban. 5 sharks are now human with emotion. Mr not so wonderful almost caved to that great sob story one but in the end, they were dead to him.
