Shaun Alexander (1 Viewer)

from the AP on Sept 5th.

"Free agent Shaun Alexander told the Associated Press Friday that he has no plans to retire and his signing with a team is "imminent."

He says he's got "a constant flow of calls" from several teams, including the Bengals. "They want me to be Tres Siete," Alexander said, referring to his No. 37 and making a wordplay on Ocho Cinco. His odds of catching on will go up after Week 1 because teams won't have to guarantee his salary, but Alexander wouldn't be a clear upgrade over any current Bengals back."

Will this guy play this year and would he be worth anything even if he did?

I can't imagine that he's all washed up. He was unstoppable not too long ago. Yea, he's been banged up but so has everyone. He's supposedly in shape and ready to go. I'm suprised we haven't heard anything this week.

me too! but unlike qb's..... rb's stayed pretty much injury free last week!

this week will be a different story! surprised cincy didn't jump gun. iF HE'S ANYTHING LIKE HE TALKES HE SHOULD EASILY GET AN INCENTIVE BASED DEAL to prove it. .

FBG are usually all over this sort of thing but I have not seen or heard anything from them. I guess they don't see any value in the possibility of a team signing this guy.

Could be and probably not very much. New team, no preseason, no playbook experience and dimished skill is not a good combination.
:unsure:Plus, IIRC he is 31, he has been ineffective and injury-plagued over the past two years, and will have not only missed preseason (and offseason/training camp) but also the first 2+ weeks of the season. It isn't easy to step into a new offense with only game preparation practices to get ready.

Completely dependant on the team he signs with. He won't be covering up the mistakes of an O-line at this point in his career but if he landed in a good situation where he was asked to carry in 12-15 times a game, he could make a decent flex player by mid-season.

He's 31 but has only played 5 full seasons plus the last tow partial seasons due to injury. If the reports are correct that he is fully recovered from the injuries of the past couple of years, he could still have something left in the tank. If he's been keeping in shape and gets picked up in the next couple of weeks, he could have some good value late in the season.

Lots of "ifs", but if you have a roster spot available or getting filled by a low end WR, he might be worth a pick up.

Is SA a hall of fame RB?
Some of us have debated this before. Many people (even those associated with the game) may say no because he was a product of his OL. Some of the numbers would say yes (mostly his TD numbers).I think SA's problem will be that he played in an era with A LOT of premiere RBs. They will only induct so many from a given era, and there are certainly plenty of other guys from around his time:FaulkMartinEmmittBettisFaulkJamesDillonBarberTomlinsonPortisHolmesWattersLewisThose guys will all get consideration (not all will make it), but there's no shortage of candidates.

If Ahman Green and Rudi Can have jobs SA deserves a chance somewhere. I would take SA over both those players. The dude had 2 100 yard games a year ago and a 200, & 140 two years ago. I would also take SA over Lamont Jordan if I were the Pats. He could be a goaline back for a bunch of teams.

With MoMo out and Julius sucking, I wonder if Seattle has called. SA is in shape, lives in Seattle, knows the playbook, knows the organization......

As a Seahawks fan, though, I just puked in my shoes.

As a Seahawks fan I can tell you that SA has drastically lost ability over the past few years. Sure he was hurt or whatever, but really he sucked. I think he has the body and talent to do above average in the NFL, but I don't see the attitude. I was excited about him when he first started for the Hawks, but eventually I saw his attitude get worse and worse, not like he was throwing fits or causing trouble on or off the field, just kinda after the TD record and the superbowl seemed like he thought he deserved more respect than he was getting, kinda lost sight of the whole thing where you have to earn that respect every day on the field. I think thats where he's at right now, living off the highs of his past accomplishments and thinking he desrves more than he is worth. Maybe some team would have interest in him, but I feel like he will not take an offer that is "below him" and he wants the starters mantle just handed over on a silver platter. I just don't see that happening. I don't think he'll play this year, and since he's not going to battle for a spot I doubt he will ever play again. A team would have to be desperate to give him what he will want and even then he's just not very good anymore. And yes I was an Alexander owner for his entire career and I just dropped him myself this season.

This is just my opinion.

I have to ask because I have seen this sentiment before, but I feel that many Seahawks fans are not big SA fans and were happy to see him go. I understand he is a shell of the RB he used to be, but there seems to be little sadness at seeing the best RB in team history no longer on the team. I am not THAT familiar with SA, so was it a performance or personality thing? I compare this to when Curtis Martin (I am a Jets fan), Jerome Bettis and even guys like Eddie George left their respective teams...even though they could not perform close to their former levels, there was a lot of regret among the fanbase to see them go. SA leaving (on the surface) seems to be viewed with as much regret as Tiki Barber retiring and I don't remember SA burining any bridges on his way out.

Do you have something against the letter 'O'?
