Sherlock (2 Viewers)

So when is series 4 coming out? Last I read there were some delays. I watched all 3 seasons in a week... Great show
Sherlock” will return for a fourth season in 2015-16, the BBC announced Wednesday. The new season will consist of a special episode, which will begin filming in January 2015, and three episodes, which will commence production later in the year and will likely appear in early 2016.

Co-creator, writer and executive producer Steven Moffat said of the show’s return: “A special, plus a new series of three episodes — it’s a record-breaking run! Of course, it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John (Martin Freeman) is the very last thing you’d expect…”

Co-creator, writer and executive producer Mark Gatiss added, “Series four! At last! It’s always special to return to ‘Sherlock’ but this time it’s even more special as we’re doing… a special! Not only that, we’ll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole ‘Sherlock’ team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The game is on — again!”

i finished S3 the other night and was underwhelmed. some episodes and parts within them were fun. however, i felt like the season was woefully underwritten. i think cumberbatch/freeman combo is dynamite for the most part but the plots are wasting their talents. it was like that in S2 and got even worse somehow in this season.

A friend at work suggested this show, and I'm 2 episodes in. Great show. I will be alternating between this and Archer.

First post in nearly 15 months.

Highly recommended show for those that haven't seen it. Unfortunately, because co-creator and writer Steven Moffat is also the lead for Dr. Who, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have been busy on projects like a Star Trek film, the Alan Turing biopic, Dr. Strange, The Hobbit and Fargo's first season, three episodes per season is all they can squeeze into their collective busy schedules. Each episode is longer and more feature film-like.

In advance of season 4 is a one off special set in the original Victorian era, titled the Abominable Bride, airing on both BBC and PBS 1-1-16.

Finished watching it this week. Very good show. The Cumberbatch Sherlock is excellent. Freeman is establishing himself as a very nice go to actor and liked the take on Moriarty.

I like the show a lot but my only complaint is that some episodes could be cut down to 60 minutes instead of being 90.

this was a problem for me. i didn't much care for how he was written, acted or indulged throughout. i didn't need him to be the embodiment of evil or another Joker but he had surprisingly little gravitas.

There's like 3 episodes a season
and?
Would you rather there be 4.5 episodes per season with a To Be Continued in the middle of each one?
No. I just remember a few episodes being a little slow and thought they could have edited them down into 60 minutes.

I like the show a lot too but have no problem with the run time because of how well they develop the narrative. Frankly many episodes are more interesting than feature films and could probably stand to be a couple minutes longer.

Love the show - episode 3 in season 1 where he's solving Moriarty's bomb threats is some of the best tv ever.

Season 3 was a little meh for me, but can't wait for another. I think of them more as movies than I do tv.

I thought the first episode he was in (the one with the bombs) was a weak performance. But after that I've loved him. He comes across as a brilliant mastermind who is simply bored with everything and toying with Sherlock for fun. Felt he absolutely nailed the essence of Moriarty when he was breaking into everything and sat in the courtroom grinning and shrugging at Watson. Tremendous casting across the board, IMO.

I always loved how brilliantly Cumberbatch blends Sherlock's genius and mania alongside modern day devices.
Cumberbatch nails the Asperger's part of the high functioning autistic spectrum, which serves the modern interpretation well.I like Elementary, too, but not as much.

Mentioned before, but Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller (married Angelina Jolie after meeting on the set of Hackers?) are both talented actors, so much so that they were in a stage production of Frankenstein together in which they would trade places and swap roles from Dr. to monster from show to show.

I don't understand tonight's episode. Is it a continuation where season 3 left off?
No, it has little to no relation to the tv series.

It is set in a completely different time frame (1800's instead of present day).

It was just a fun idea they had to produce a one shot set in the time Holmes was originally set while helping to span the long gap in production between season 3 and 4.

On DirecTV (in LA), PBS proper is blacked out on my plan, but it is on local affiliate channel #50 (KOCE) from 9:00-10:30 PM - DVR set.

well that was fun :) I liked that they

tied it into the regular time period
I am interested to read speculation on what the ending meant.

Fun, as always.

The "mystery" seemed like something out of an old Scooby Doo cartoon. Then it went all Inception-y and lost me a little.

don't think speculation is needed unless I missed something. Sounds like he's dead and the video was prerecorded

"I know what he will do next"
line.

I really wanted to see Irene Adler in the past (besides her picture). But I have to assume Lara Pulver was not available since they got so many other previous cast to members to be involved.

Saw it the other night and loved it. Going to the theater event tomorrow night for a one night only showing of it to see it again. Really pumped about seeing Sherlock on the big screen with the awesome sound.

I completely forgot to set my DVR. I realized it 30 minutes after it started. I'm an idiot.
They're replaying it on the 10th.
This is good as my wife deleted it from DVR thinking it had recorded by mistake (PBS had it under Masterpiece, which is what Downton Abbey shows up for her, so she figured it recorded it because of that)

Will wait to read the spoiler posts until after I have a chance to watch it.
