Sherlock (1 Viewer)

well that was fun :) I liked that they

tied it into the regular time period
I am interested to read speculation on what the ending meant.
don't think speculation is needed unless I missed something. Sounds like he's dead and the video was prerecordedI meant the

"I know what he will do next"
line.

Twins......

or he's not dead.

or he, as being self described as a virus in the computer, will have had one more case already set in motion (maybe on the event of his death) solely for Sherlock.

I don't think they're going to burn Moriarty if they plan on going for more than 4 seasons......

Sherlock, Season 4: Preview

http://www.pbs.org/video/2365912692/

"You know why I’m here.” Here’s a brand new trailer for Sherlock, Season 4. A new season of #SherlockPBS premieres January 1st on MASTERPIECE on PBS.

‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Teaser: Benedict Cumberbatch’s Character Has a Dark Secret

http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/sherlock-season-4-trailer-benedict-cumberbatch-video-1201939052/

A new teaser for “Sherlock” Season 4 shows Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular character in a dark place.

“The roads we walk have demons beneath and yours have been waiting for a very long time,” the preview begins with a voiceover.

Toby Jones will play the villain in this season, and in the teaser he seems to exert power over Cumberbatch’s Holmes. “What’s the very worst thing you can do to your very best friends?” the evil man asks. “Tell them your darkest secret.”

After several quick glimpses showing many of Holmes’ dearest friends, the camera cuts to a scene of the main character staring straight into the camera: “I love you,” Holmes says.

The BBC series was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and also stars Martin Freeman as John Watson.

In an interview with British GQ, Cumberbatch hinted that this time around might be the last for the hit program. “It might be the end of an era. It feels like the end of an era, to be honest. It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately,” he said.

The fourth series of “Sherlock” will premiere on Jan. 1, 2017.

For the 1/1/17 season 4 premier:

UK = BBC

US = PBS

* IIRC, had to hunt for it on DirecTV last year, may have been around channel 50 (and possibly not even called PBS, but their programming was available on this channel).

Reminder.

You can binge watch the first three seasons of Sherlock on Netflix. Only 10 episodes (3 X 3 + Abominable Bride exactly one year ago today).

1st episode of the new season was pretty bad. All character relationships, no actual weird twisty mystery. They're just focusing on the soap opera of Sherlock and Watson's interactions, and, from how it ended, that doesn't look to be changing.

We might only get one actual mystery this "season".
 In truth that has pretty much been the show since Mary's introduction.  So maybe it changes going forward, although I doubt it.  Probably just lots of JohnAngst.

Can't say I'm hate watching yet, but I've moved past "enjoying" it.

Watched S3E3 before the premiere - my mind was like a fried turkey grease fire by the end
It's a good idea to do this as it hasn't aired for a while, I had forgotten much of it (only watched once) and it is connected plot-wise.

* No spoilers please.

Did you watch the S3/S4 "bridge" episode, The Abominable Bride, before the premiere? Filled in a bit between the end of S3 and the start of S4.
i had seen that repeat just before xmas. liked that - still not sure the other two. never am for a year or so. love being challenged that way when even the best&toughest tv is about the building of character/viewer relationships

It was just okay for me. The lack of a real antagonistic hurt. I think the idea is that we were supposed to be looking over the shoulder for Moriarty along with Sherlock but I thought it was just kind of flat.

I was also confused about why they were doing another Mary episode until the end.

Being faster than a bullet was pretty preposterous and stretched the suspension of disbelief well beyond the breaking point.

For anybody that saw the newest episode, what do you think is the significance of the woman Watson met on the bus?

Is she a red herring? Will she somehow tie in to Moriarty? What actually occurred between them?

SPOILER

I thought it was pretty clear from the text exchanges they had an affair. I don't think he would take that risk if they were pen pals.

I couldn't remember how to do a Spoiler box in my above post, so I was trying to ask questions without giving too much away to those that have yet to see the episode.

But, yes it was obvious Watson and the lady from the bus had an affair. I didn't get a good sense of how long it had gone on though. Watson seemed ready to spill his guts to Mary right before the got the text from Sherlock to meet him at the Aquarium. So, now that Mary is gone, does Watson continue seeing her? Nothing seems to just happen on this show, so I'm wondering if the woman will set Watson up for a bad situation that was planned by Moriarty. i.e. Put Watson in peril and force Sherlock to try to save him. [end spoiler]

Here are some interesting speculations you might enjoy.  No future spoilers, just all guesses.

Thanks. That was an interesting read.

In some other Googling I did, I found out Martin Freeman and the actress playing Mary were a couple for 16 years and had two children together. They had just split up before the Season 4 opener was shot. That would make things awakward!

I have to say I never really found Mary to be that attractive. There were times when I thought she looked OK, but others it was like "Hell No!". I thought she looked too manly.

I am more inclined to believe the woman was one of Sherlock's people, and that Sherlock was texting Watson under the guise of being the ginger.  No physical relationship between Watson and the woman.

Don't think they did a great job conveying whatever was happening, even it's supposed to be a mystery for viewers.

I don't think it was clear that there was a physical relationship at all.  Assume we'll find out in due time.

In the meantime, it seems every episode I am blown away at how they are able to keep up with the phenomenal quality of this show.  From the acting to the writing to the directing to the cinematography, it's such a class act.  Just outstanding.

"Intuitions are not to be ignored, John. They represent data processed too fast for the conscious mind to comprehend." - Sherlock

Unless it turns out to be some kind of red herring twist, really don't like what they did with Watson and the bus lady. Like someone said above, that is going to really piss people off.

There are lots of way to take the show in a darker direction and give Watson some demons without fundamentally shifting his character like that.

Liked ep2 quite a bit.

Sometimes this show can almost be too hard to watch, so confusing and a lot of mind ####### going on.  This weeks was easily tracked and understood, even with the major twists.

very good episode.  It will make the first episode better on a re-watch too I think.  Great way to tie in so many dangling threads.

question about the second episode

I realize he was strung out on meth, but he was still cognizant enough to be in super detective mode when talking to Euros in his apartment.  As such why does he not recognize her as his sister?

Guess we know now.

So what's the word?  Was that the series finale?

Moffit and Gattis are considering continuing the series.

========

Moffat also revealed to RadioTimes.com that he and Gatiss toyed with the idea of flashing the line “The Beginning” across the screen at the end of The Final Problem.

But while it accords with the theme of the episode, he said that in the end they decided it would have been “too cheesy”.
