Sherman is a tool (1 Viewer)

I know this has nothing to do with Sherman's personality (I think he's a tool, FWIW), who will be lining up against Sherman for the 49ers this week? I thought it was gonna be mostly Crabtree, but other people have been saying Boldin? I know Sherman stays on one side, do the 49ers move all of their receivers around? Deciding if Crabtree is worth a play on Thursday for Fanduel.

Sherman does stay on one side which is the offense's right side. Last year in SF/Seattle's two matchup where Crabtree played (he was out the first game) Crabtree was primarily lined up against Sherman. In those two games, Crabtree had a total of 8 catches for 92 yards and no Td's. Boldin had 11 catches for 146 and 1TD in those two games.

Also, Boldin likes to work the middle of the field to which Seattle is slightly more vunerable.

Boldin has been more productive than Crabtree all year and I think SF will gladly sacrifice Crabtree in this game for Boldin, S.Johnson and B.Lloyd to see easier coverage. With Bobby Wagner back it is unlikely Sf will be able to run very effectively.

I have Boldin this week and will start him without question, if I had Crabtree I would bench him this week.

they lost me on the cardboard cutout bit
The cardboard cutout wasn't actually Doug Baldwin. He was hiding behind it the whole time.

Wait, what now? I have no problem with them mocking the hypocritical NFL, but this was hardly clever. I'm actually a little embarrassed for him if this was the headliner for a "wait until my press conference" threat. I was honestly expecting much better after hearing he said that. Personally, this performance can be summed up in two words: wamp wamp

In the week 2 matchup that Crabtree missed, Sherman shadowed Boldin and the results weren't good for Anquan: 1 catch for 7 yards. If Sherman is looking for a challenge again, I'd guess he'd ask to take Boldin over Crabtree...

it's funny that Sherman is known for being outspoken and articulate because he pretty much sucks talking in front of groups. He sounds like a little kid doing a class presentation - his voice waivers, he sounds too rehearsed and yet unprepared in his delivery, etc... it seems like someone who has a fear of public speaking but is trying to work through it.

Having said that, he is generally spot on with his commentary and obviously smart with a good sense of humor. It makes for a much more interesting league and team to follow - so as far as I'm concerned, keep it coming.

well, if sherman doesn't like all these nfl rules I'm sure the cfl would take him

hopefully, the nfl wouldn't go out of business
I have zero problem with him pointing out the NFL's hypocritical actions.

The headphones thing, by the way, i agree with. These players get a short window, careers can end every week, I have no problem with players getting all the endorsements they can and cashing in. The NFL stifling that, in any way, is pretty terrible.
maybe you should think that through a little bit
Thanks, I did.

I'm on the opposite side of this than Darren Rovell? I must be right:

Totally disagree. What were you were expecting, a speech on diaologics as an art of discourse in Dostoevsky's prose, or a Hawking treatise on how quantum decoherence explains the subjective appearance of wavefunction collapse? Puh-leeze.

Would take this honest and clever approach any day over the standard, over-scripted, canned sound bytes we hear in nearly every single other press conference we hear from sports figures, ever.

Huge Seahawks fan - love everything about Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll.

Sherman is a great CB ... And a huge dooooshbag.

That is all.

Why do you feel that way?
Not sure ...I think he could be much better. He's extremely intelligent, just wish he used his influence in a better way. Russell Wilson needs an outspoken teammate... Sherman IS that- but I just wish he was more of the leader type. It would be nice to see him carry himself more like professional... The whole "I'm great" and jabbing at his opponents after a win is tired. He's very quite when they loose ...

I dunno. Just think he's a doosh- great great CB though

If you like Sherman, fine, if you dislike him, fine.

But for Seahawks fans to act like they dont know why so many dislike him is kind of funny.

Prior to this game, Kaepernick said he would not avoid Sherman, saying he'll throw to the open man. So at Sherman's presser just now, he was asked about the comment.

"There was an opponent who said he was going to throw to the open man -- he didn't care who was out there. I was the open man."

Lets see...one of the worst QBs in the game throws some picks to Sherman...and that makes him the best/great?

Got it.

I thought it was funny.
My post was directed at the scientist guy who said don't test the best.

Carry on, RN. We're on the same page now. Lol
No, that's actually my fault. I would have known to whom you were replying had ITS not been on ignore.
I should do the same, but I actually enjoy seeing his posts. Not he content, but just to remind me that no matter how bad my life gets, its still better than his.

Love Sherman, he makes football fun and intensifies rivalries. Reminds me of a old school WWF heel. Fans love him, opponents hate him.

Good point. Maybe I'll take him off ignore now as well. I wish FBG would post some stats about the user that is ignore the most. It's probably him. Definitely top 5.

He's not even th 3rd most important defender on that team. you disagree? Just the loudest
Who are the defenders on that team who are more "important" than him?
Immediately I would say Earl Thomas--I don't think there is anyone who would disagree as he has influence across every aspect of the defense. Outside of that however, I'm not so sure in a passing league I would put anyone else there. I suppose you could make a strong case for Bobby Wagner given how different the defense looks when he out there. But taking away 1/3 of the field the QB wants to throw toward and with little help over top, I'm not sure he isn't #2. I think there are folks who try to minimize his impact on the field.

Sorry. Give me Patrick Peterson. Just as good a corner, if not better, and not a total ### clown.

Sherman is a great player and if he were on my team, I guarantee you Sean Payton wouldn't put up with that nonsense for a second...
Still feel this way?
Peterson's stats would suggest that he play's football like an ### clown.

Let's just ignore the fact that Sherman has the most INTs in the league (by a wide margin) and most passes defended in the league since entering in 2011. All this while being the least targeted CB...yeah, nowhere near the best.

"Puh-leeze"? Really? No, I was expecting something semi-clever after his "wait until my press conference" statement. What's funny is you whine about "over-scripted, canned" lines, yet this was obviously very scripted and canned. I don't disagree with him, I just found it completely lame. I totally agree with the guy below when he says Sherman sounds like he rehearsed it but still wasn't prepared. The content was weak and the delivery was poor. He's on the right track, but a 5th grader could have written and given that presentation just as well.

Again, I don't disagree with him, but I think he could've made stronger points. I'm one of the few people who doesn't have a polarized opinion of him. I don't mind things like this at all, in fact I like it very much, but I'd just like to see something much less lame in the future.

Spot on.

Genuine question....how does one accurately account for "targets" in a defense where zone is the defense de jour? Is it as simple as "if the WR is close to the CB, then that CB is the target"? I ask this as a general fantasy question with IDP. I have the guy, but I think he gets WAY more points than he should...shows up mostly in the "passes defended" stat line. I noticed this in the game he played here in Carolina and have been observing since.

Sherman has caught two more balls than the receivers he has been guarding the last three games.

lol at comparing him to Patrick Peterson, who is an outstanding return man
Peterson is easily having his worst season as a pro.

Funny. Peterson is no where near Sherman's level. Yes, Peterson is an amazing athlete and can do some awesome things on the field. He is not the consistent force that Sherman is in every single game. We were trying to tell you this but you wouldn't listen, maybe now you can start to realize how wrong you were.

No you were trying to, inaccurately, explain cover 3 and the base Sea D.

True, but what did his best season look like?
It looked like the best man cover CB in the NFL.

When was that? He's never looked better than Sherman or a healthy Revis. He lacks their technique and knowledge, though he is a fantastic athlete.
