The woman in this article, Velez, who was killed, was friends with my friend I mentioned earlier in this thread who gave us information in the beginning. This woman was pregnant and had just gotten back from her tour in Iraq. My friend told us yesterday about it but we couldn't say anything until today I guess. Very sad. May she and her unborn baby RIP.

If this were a terrorist attack then why was he drawing attention to himself by trying to get out of the Army? Why would there be reports of him being harassed? If it was all a scheme to make the infidels pay, wouldn't he try to be less conspicuous?

I'm not trying to get bogged down in some legal debate about whether or not the guy is fit to stand trial or whatever. I'm just making a point that it seems that people who commit acts of terrorism aren't well adjusted, normal people who happen to be super religiously or politically motivated. From my understanding, and maybe Bonzai can chime in further because he is in mental health, there is no literal meaning to the word "insanity". It's a legal term that those who study this field don't really recognize. Most of us laymen recognize that someone who choose to randomly kill other people is not a "normal" person as we would define the term. (Of course, "normal" has no meaning either.)

If an action is preplanned, and if it can be proven that the perpetrator understands the results and consequences of his actions, the law doesn't consider that insane. Yet by this logic, suicide bombers are not insane.

I think the military needs to address this. There are about 15,000 Muslims in the military, probably about 1% of the total. My first guess when this happened was that is was probably a Muslim. That sounds so racist, but what should be a 1 in a 100 chance, is more like 50-50. We need to consider, Muslim + Anti-War rhetoric + Disgruntled = Major Warning Sign. People in the military are in charge of a lot of weapons a heck of a lot more powerful and destructive than a handgun, so it could be a lot worse next time. Too much political correctness is going to get a lot of young American men and women killed.

I think the military needs to address this. There are about 15,000 Muslims in the military, probably about 1% of the total. My first guess when this happened was that is was probably a Muslim. That sounds so racist, but what should be a 1 in a 100 chance, is more like 50-50.

I don't know, you seem to be suggesting something here. This guy was in the army for 20 years, and I will grant you, seemed to display some signs of unhappiness lately, though it all seems pretty speculative. One thing was apparently investigated and deemed inconclusive. They don't kick people out for being unhappy. Honestly, if they did, there'd be a big time shortage of deployable troops. It is unAmerican to take the fact that he's a Muslim and use as some justification to treat him differently than you would any other troop. That's not me being PC, that's what America is all about. If this jerk does something horrible because he was treated as an equal by those above him, well, that's on him not them and it is very unfortunate but IMO it was unavoidable. We don't take this incident and immediately start putting all Muslim soldiers under a microscope.

I live in an America that had 3000 people killed on 9-11. One which has had DOZENS of more attacks stopped since then because of the work of our counterterrorism efforts. Oh come on with your vile racism accusations. We know for a fact that Muslims are recruiting Americans. We know that there are Islamic sleeper cells here. This is a real war, where real people are in real danger. We can waste our time treating blue-haired grandma as a terrorist threat, or we can keep our eyes on Muslims communities and prisons where the recruitments are going on. 99.99% of the Muslim community are good American citizens. But that does not change the fact that the major terrorist threat against this country is 100% Islamic.
