Should Brady even be playing this week? (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
In the grand scheme of things the regular season will be worthless to the Pats if Brady gets injured week 17.

Brady should play one quarter at the most then get out of there as healthy as possible and get ready for the playoffs.

they didn't really look effective in the second half of the Dolphins game on offense. The best way to get ready for the playoffs is to get the offense clicking before the bye week.

Normally I'd agree with you. If I were Dungy or Phillips, I wouldn't bring Manning or Romo out for more than the first series or two. But this season has a chance to mean a lot more to the Patriots than "just another Superbowl". I'd be willing to risk a fourth Superbowl in seven years for a chance at perfection, and I think most fans would, too. Every game this season is like a playoff game in the context of the pursuit of perfection.

If the Pats get out to an early lead, and the Giants bench their starters, I'd expect Brady to leave the game early, too. Otherwise, I think the Pats will do everything they have to to win this game, just like they will in each game the rest of the way.

Belichick does not believe in sitting people and hasn't done so before any of their other title runs. He belives that it disrupts team chemistry. I doubt he changes his ways now.

Yes, he should play. How else is he going to finish his quest to better Manning's TD mark? I hope he plays the full game as Belichick has insisted they do no matter what. Then maybe he can get 4-6 TDs against a team playing their second stringers.

Not sure how this helps the highest scoring team EVER to tune up for the playoffs, but I'm sure most of the Patriot :homer: s will be chiming in soon enough.

Here they come...

So you want Brady take off for two weeks. OK

Hate to disagree with you, BF. I, for one, want the SB WAYYYYYY more than I want the undefeated season. If they lose tonight, but go on a 3 game winning streak, I'm all good. If they win tonite and one of a handful of key players gets dinged and it costs them their SB run, I'd question the value of playing in the game. To me, its only the potential injury that concerns me.All that said, I fully expect to see at least a half, if not 3Qs of the regulars.

What if he gets injured on the 3rd play in the AFC Divisional game?

He needs two TDs and the Pats want to win. He should play.

Winning the Super Bowl is more important, but a perfect season is far more memorable.

Every year the media starts talking about the perfect Dolphins team once a current team is 7-0 or so. SuperBowl champs from the past don't get talked about near as much.

The perfect season Dolphins team has been more talked about and more memorable then any other super bowl team from past years. A Super Bowl is won every year, a perfect season is a rare rare event.

True, but you would still need to win the SB. Winning this one is fine, but shouldn't be the primary objective of this team.

Do you really think this would be the primary objective of the Pats? They do want the record from all I read this week...they also want to win the Super Bowl. Had they lost a game earlier in the season, you would probably see the starters out after the half. BB does tend to play his players late into the games, and I am not just talking this season.

So what if they go 16-0 and lose in the playoffs? Then the whole thing is a waste. They'll end up like the Bears and be a graphic on SportsCenter and really not talked about or remembered. No one thinks "Bears and Dolphins" when talking about perfect season, its just Dolphins.

The Pats could lose in the playoffs but that could have nothing at all to do with Brady playing against the Giants.

So then you agree he shouldn't play much...?

I think he should play until the game is no longer in doubt. I think a loss here would be a detriment to the team and effect them going into the playoffs. I would like to see Cassell get some meaningful snaps though incase Brady goes down in the playoffs.

I would feel a lot more confident if they had Vinny Testerverde on the bench in the playoffs instead of Cassell.

It seems Brady has been sacked/hit more in the past few games. The Giants lead the NFL with 51 sacks, if I was NE I be careful how much I play Brady, he could be in for a few dirt baths from the Giants D, depending how much the G-men starting D plays.

I would think being good to go for the Superbowl run is more important then personal records, but this is "run up the score" NE were talking about.

Here's to hoping NO-ONE gets hurt tonight :blackdot:

Especially considering that the right side of the O-Line is OUT (along with Kyle Brady).
Do you think that O'Callaghan and Hochstein are that much of a drop off from Kazcur and Neal? Kazcur is not good. The Pats were going to have problems from that side anyway.
