Should you always counter a salary offer? (1 Viewer)

Seeing how you already work for the company, you should know if the pay is acceptable or not. If its a fair offer and you like working there, take what they offer IMO. If the offer isnt fair, look for another job.
This is an interesting comment. Why would you say "I should know if the pay is acceptable" ? They never gave an accurate number during the interview process, and I only gave them a range.

Thanks

And Thanks

I'm not surprised by the firm stance on the offer. It's the way this company does business. From what I've seen over the past 16 months, they either let people go to other companies, or when they create positions/titles to justify the expense for someone. We never had a V.P. in our department until a few months ago (which is probably where my salary is going). The guy has 30 years with 2 Fortune 500 companies. So they found a way to make it work for him.

As I mentioned, I went through it in the fall. You either fall into their formula, or you decline the position. The offer in the fall was a small step up in the same building. I declined. This offer is at the corporate office. Face time with V.P. will either vault me ahead, or push me out. Either way, I should know within a year if it was the correct choice.
