I know this is a complete 180 from the previous song.  I hesitated including this, as I don't really love it, but it is tied a nice memory.  Some of you that have "known" me here for a while are aware of the medical issues my wife was fighting for years, and the turnaround she made a few years ago.  Last year was probably one of the best years of my life, based on all the things we were able to do as a family. One of those things was taking to the kids to some local 4th of July festival where Five for Fighting was playing.  We made them stand near the front right in front of speakers to get a real "concert" experience.  This song reminds me of that day, and really represents a new beginning for us.

But how bad is Five for Fighting?  Not only did we see them at a free concert in suburban midwest America, they weren't even the headliner!  They opened for The Fray.

I said I wouldn't Hipple the thread, but Otis chimed in. This is an awesome story, indeed probably a professional yet terrible band. 

But I do like The Fray's few hit songs on modern radio.

Very dreamy. Maybe too much so. It doesn't pick up until about 1:15 in, and never really moves the discordant/feedback/distortion/heavy needle that I love so much in dreamy shoegaze stuff in the three minutes I gave it. It's just sort of her voice sailing over the music, which is nice, but doesn't totally do it for me. Therefore...gentle nitpick: From my brief listening to Best Coast's albums, I'm not sure I would have picked this song, but rather, one of their earlier ones. But still, the fact that they made the countdown is cool. 

Cool countdown, shuke. I don't want to be too negative. Please don't mistake my minor nitpick for an indictment of the whole exercise nor your judgment.

Bring on the criticism.  Like I said, for some of these bands I don’t know a lot about them. So if you have something particular to recommend please do.

Love the eclectic collection in this thread.  

Great call on the Saint Motel single.  

For Toots, I prefer Funky Kingston and for Madness, I'm with Rove on House of Fun, but nothing wrong with the picks. 

I'm guessing this is the end of the early ska, but hopeful for Isreaelites or Ethiopians.

This is also my favorite Superchunk song, albeit a cover of the Shangri-La's, who were something else in their own right. I love the Shangri-La's.

Come to think of it 100,000 Fireflies is my second favorite Superchunk song, and it's also a cover -- it was originally done by the Magnetic Fields.  

I went out in the forest and caught 100,000 fireflies/As they ricochet 'round my room/They remind me of your starry eyes...

I love the soundtrack this title track is from. I got this on 180 gram vinyl for a whopping twelve bucks from scratch and dent on Amazon. There was absolutely nothing, nothing at all wrong with the record, which I figured.

One of my favorite songs ever. I was talking about it in tim's one hit wonder thread. I remember one of the first times I ever got really stoned was to this song. Woof.

this is maybe one of my favorite music posts ive read ever here at fbg and i have been around a while i am very happy that you and yours are doing well turning corners and having solid family time even if it involves five for fighting hell now even i like them keep on keepin on shukeclan take that to the bank brohans

I had planned to fully catch up last night, but - I decided to listen to the entire recording of this - just ended! 

Seriously, this has moved into my #1 spot of songs in this thread. It reminds me so much of my 1st true love. 

We ran from our parents plans for us - off to college together - with plans to marry. 

It didn't work out. It was sad - a lot like this song. We didn't get back together (as in song), but we resolved our issues. She now had 4 wonderful kids & great husband. I 😪. 

Then - I got a call from my cousin, last night - we are both night owls - so I visited - told him bout FBG & all we do. He liked - says HI! 

Gunna get back to it now.
