Silicon Valley - New Mike Judge 8-Part HBO Series (5 Viewers)

I think another thing about the most recent episode is it's the first one in a little while where things start to look positive for PP (if not for Dinesh). They'd been on a real losing streak (I count Russ as 'loosing') through the first half of the season, everytime it seems like something was going to go their way, it didn't. So it's nice to see them at least seem to come out even or even on top for once (although I don't expect that to last).
And Hooli might be going down? Maybe bighead returns to PP.
i love how he is now known as "bag head". makes me laugh every time

and i saw an interview with Mike Judge where he said they had to have them losing because if they kept winning it wasn't funny. i think he said they had to rewrite most of season 2 because of it. successful people just were not funny or relateable
I think a show about a great idea/algorithm that faces a lot of obstacles along the way is the only real viable show. A crummy idea that hit some resistance would be pretty dull and would last...an episode? A great idea that faces no resistance is basically Northern California Entourage with less nudity.
Definitely. I wasn't saying that I don't understand the reasons the story is told the way it is, just that it was nice to see them get a win.
You have to walk the line. It can't just be them losing all of the time. I feel like that's why Hello Ladies didn't last. Great show, but he never got a win. SV needs small wins with plenty of hardships. They can then end the series with a huge win. But if they never win anything, that could hurt the show.

Even Entourage had some backsliding. Seems half of one season revolved around the Pablo Escobar fiasco.

Although you need some semblance of a central storyline to keep it together (something I don't think Office Space had),if the show continues to show the absurdity of the .com/software/tech industry while having engaging characters, I'd be happy with a "journey not the destination" form of theme.

The worst Silicon Valley episode is still in a different universe than Entourage.

Another plug for Veep. I'd been sleeping on it until the last week or two. Now, we've gone back and are halfway through S2. This show hit its stride very quickly.

I agree with this. The next episode where they compete with EndFrame is going to be interesting. Richard is a character I root for, but it seems implausible for them to win the agreement. If they win $15m, the whole dynamic of the show changes. I also don't want EndFrame to win because its another slap in the face to PP. Perhaps a third company comes in and wins the agreement.

Unfortunately, even Mike Judge is talented, I doubt the storyline was thought out that far ahead. It was even noted they had to rewrite Season 2 for them to continue to be an underdog story. Could distract from the humor if they keep losing all through Season 3 as well.

I could easily see them winning the contract and then either:

1. EndFrame finds out about the contract being based off of their contract and puts a hold on PP's business;

2. Something/Someone screws up at PP and the contract is scratched/adjusted.

In either case (or other cases), the pairing of PP and Porn can produce some fantastic television.

I'm also a big fan of VEEP. The writing on that show is exceptional. There's always guaranteed to have 3-4 awesome lines/interactions.

Entourage is the "Two and a half men" of the premium cable channel world. Lowest Common Denominator humor, but they curse alot and show boobs

Magary's GQ profile on them is pretty good, it seems like the line between actor and character is awfully blurry.

phew. all this time it was just me that didn't get why it was such a success... but that makes me feel better.

I did like the first seasonish... where they're all acclimating, pitting LA vs East Coast.

Entourage is the male-centric version of Sex & The City. Vapid, crass, and without any trace of art.

Sex and the city is way above Entourage, IMO.

I think that's what they call a backhanded compliment.

Entourage was very entertaining up until the Medellin storyline as someone else mentioned. Not "great", entertaining.

Just in case you haven't seen the Hello Ladies finale movie, I won't spoil it by revealing plot details. But, I thought it was a nice setup to the show's next season (if there was going to be one) because Stuart finally got a win.

Monica is hot as ####. Possibly in the "Women you find oddly attractive" category. Still need more research.
I see no reason to think Monica is oddly attractive. She's hot. Now the female engineer they hired, that's another story.
She's a bit toothy. Not what you'd call classically beautiful. That's why I didn't fully commit.
youd get ripped to shreds posting her in that thread.

In that thread they need to be disfigured sloths with a lazy eye. Even then someone chimes in that they are too cute.

So if endframe would have deleted your files with their compression, you wouldn't have lost half of it

Lol

It really felt like that episode hit a wall. You knew they were going to fail (again) and then you see why - and if was a  type of reaction. I wonder how long they can sustain failing all the time, as I mentioned before it can't continue to be predictable that they will for the series to survive.

My sources tell me that you'll be able to see Amanda Crew's pierced nipple in "Crazy Kind of Love." I believe the internet may even have this clip.
