Silicon Valley - New Mike Judge 8-Part HBO Series (9 Viewers)

btw... caught a reflection of myself in a store window yesterday wearing new glasses. had the erlich/xang corvette moment... tossed the glasses in my only-if-needed drawer.

As a tech geek and some one who enjoys the business side of things, my interest in this (stipulating that it would ever be feasible) would be the underestimation on Richards part about the internet being free.

I believe he would just be moving the problem.

Even if you could remove every ISP server in the world, the technology that carries the data is not free.  My guess is that the cell phone carriers (which in some cases is the same as the ISP's) would find a way to monetize their bandwidth that was carrying the peer to peer connections.
Not hot dog

I once slept with the assistant manager of an Assisted Living Facility to get my friend Muriel bumped to the top of the wait list.

Am I proud of it? No.

Do I regret it? No.

:lmao: Jared killing it this season.

Jared kills it every season. They all do. The entire cast rules. I remember when this show first came out. I never thought I would like it, but it's amazing.

It  means your phone is basically useless as a communications device without a network it communicates over. We all pay for mobile network access through our mobile network service provider. So if the mobile phone network became the main infrastructure for the "new internet" we'd just end up paying more to our mobile phone providers (and/or the already existing terrestrial network providers if you use wifi rather than the mobile network). Maybe he's inventing some new kind of peer to peer protocol that every phone is going to utilize via wifi. There's still the problem that the price of most phones is subsidized by being bundled with the carrier's plan - so decoupling the phone from a carrier's network wouldn't mean things are totally free, the price of your device would probably go up. It's not really worth going in to more detail - it's basically a b.s. technology they're thrown together just to keep some plot going.

To put it more succinctly, for the purposes of the show, it's not important - just enjoy the ride.
They become the network.  The users wouldn't have to pay Verizon or whoever anymore.  And why would anyone?

No signs of slowing down. All of my concerns following the premiere are gone.

A little upset Gavin won't be part of the new company, lots of lost potential there though :kicksrock:

Not as many laughs in this week's episode as weeks past. But it was more of a reset the plot lines episode, so I give it a pass.

Was there any special significance to Gavin delivering his portrait with the equation on it or was it just another example of his arrogance?

Reranking of my favorite characters thus far:

1) Gavin

2) Donald (Jared)

3) Gilfoyle

4) Jian Yang

4)Dinesh/Ehrlich/Bighead tie (would like more Bighead this season)

5) Everyone else

I don't think so, but I might rewatch tomorrow.

Jared seems to have at least one of these moments in each episode. The person listening to Jared gets a brief wtf? look on their face and then somebody else starts talking.

Erlich and Richard both suck. Everyone else is awesome

Richard is the character that he needs to be.  He's not supposed to be funny or awesome since he's the springboard for others to be awesome off of.  In other words, he's the nerd who excels at the tech but, like many others, mistakenly things he can handle the business and social aspect of it.  Heck, he's basically Steve Wozniak and that guy is definitely an inferior Woz.

Erlich is basically TJ Miller acting as himself.  I think Miller is hysterical in small doses and was worried he'd be too much a major character.  But the writers have used him perfectly in my opinion and I find him just as awesome as everybody else (although Jared and Gilfoyle are the best).

Has he been called "Donald" before? I was really hoping that they'd flesh out how he knew blood boy.

Erlich is the Michael Scott of this show.  A total blowhard living in his own fantasy world, but every once in a while shows the vulnerability that drives his narcissism and the flashes of intelligence/perceptiveness that have managed to get him as far as he's gone.  But with way more weed.

And the paraphernalia is something to behold

Donald, IIRC, is his real name. The PP guys just forgot his name and called him Jared by mistake, and he decided it was easier to go with it than correct them. It shows what a doormat he is, at least when we first meet him.

He worked at Hooli for Gavin when first introduced, which is how he knows the blood boy.

still love Jared's freak-outs.

eta: I had a guy in our office that sounded and acted (a bit) just like Jared... really sweet guy. and I would've loved to have seen him blow his top.

Exactly. Richard is intentionally that way.

it would be awesome if they write him off the show in some brutal way, like having a 10 ton shipping container fall on him.

all the guys look shocked, and Gilfoyle says, "That's a shame."
or...

-fly up into the ether on a cloud of bong smoke, ala remedios the beauty and the sheets in 100yrs of solitude.

-murdered by jian-yang by compromising the palapa.

-made a reclusive billionaire by jian-yang's octopus app.

...
