Silicon Valley - New Mike Judge 8-Part HBO Series (1 Viewer)

it would be awesome if they write him off the show in some brutal way, like having a 10 ton shipping container fall on him.

all the guys look shocked, and Gilfoyle says, "That's a shame."
He needs to have a bong in each hand.

Big loss but nice thing about ensemble cast is there's lots of people there to pick up the slack. I could see them adding another BIG presence, because his character was pretty unique and also played a big role in moving a lot of plot points forward IMO.

They're going to need money/stability as they move out of the incubator. Replacing Erlich with Russ Hannemann would work.....if Hannemann was shown in smaller doses than Erlich currently is.

Technically, couldn't Gavin had stolen the formula?  Richard wrote it on his property.  Is Gavin giving it up showing that he's legitmately out?
Gavin knows he doesn't have the skills to make it work. He knows enough to see the potential and that Richard thinks he can make it work, but Gavin couldn't do it himself.

I can totally see Gavin "finding himself" and coming back to be an even bigger #####.  I mean they announced TJ Miller leaving...they didn't announce anything about the actor playing Gavin leaving...right?

I think he is out for now, but IDK if the picture has anything to do with it. He could've just taken a picture of the code.

Regardless, I wanted Gavin in the company, would've been great.

As a tech geek and some one who enjoys the business side of things, my interest in this (stipulating that it would ever be feasible) would be the underestimation on Richards part about the internet being free.

I believe he would just be moving the problem.

Even if you could remove every ISP server in the world, the technology that carries the data is not free.  My guess is that the cell phone carriers (which in some cases is the same as the ISP's) would find a way to monetize their bandwidth that was carrying the peer to peer connections.
Isn't the entire point, that due to his algorithm, the amount of bandwidth used for this is the same as the current state? The carriers would not be under any more of a burden, if anything less?

This was my completely uneducated take as well.

Maybe Gavin comes back to be an upscale version of Erlich.  He uses his money to fund guys like Richard that have big ideas, but lack the funding to get them off the ground. Gavin could have everybody move into his mansion.

I"d prefer another Bighead mansion... or maybe xian-yang, now that his hotdog nothotdog app is taking off.

unlimited gavin resources would take some of the better jokes away, IMO (although I'm sure this group of writers would't have a problem finding jokes in luxurious splendor either).

It is not a bandwidth question, it is a business question.  The carriers are not going to idly sit by and not monetize the situation to their benefit when they control all the power of the new internet.

I'd like to see Gavin interacting with Xian Yang, Bighead, etc. as he acts as the head of the mansion incubator.

Richard: That was my idea. You were just standing there.

Russ: Yeah, pulling it out of you like a newborn baby.

Richard: Ok. But... uh, well, if a doctor pulls a baby out of a pregnant woman, the doctor doesn't then get to keep the baby.

Russ: Ok, first of all, my ex-wife is ####### the doctor that delivered my son and they're suing for full custody, so you're wrong.

:lmao:

Looks like the kid who saw dead people compensated by eating all the snacks imaginable. I wonder if he's taking over for TJ Miller

btw- jian-yang standing right behind and then revealed behind the gavin portrait... foreshadowing of who the money man will be?

Just watched the rest after seeing the first half on Sunday...

hfs... when Richard is trying to convince erlich not to come to the meeting, he tells him they won the tech crunch because of the tech... and repeats slowly"because of the tech" while making the double hand signal for mean jerk time. :lmao:

still has me :lmao:   and got me to watch that scene from S1 again. seriously the funniest thing I can ever remember on TV.

This was another very good episode...the banter between Dinesh and Gilfoyle is great, Jarrod once again had some great one-liners, etc.  Very funny show again this year.

Some how that crazy little ******** has become the best character on the show.
He has been fantastic. Jared has been the best though, IMO. Guy is amazing this season. I'd bet he is going to get some opportunities playing the nerdy/dorky guy in some good comedy movies very soon - once those opportunities start coming in & he leaves, I think the show will be ending.

You mean outside of the roles he's already had?

He's been in a lot of stuff

He was great on The Office, but this quote from VEEP is my favorite:

“Jonah, you’re not even a man.  You’re like an early draft of a man where they just sketched out a giant, mangled skeleton but they didn’t have time to add details like pigment or self-respect. You’re Frankenstein’s monster if his monster was made entirely of dead #####.”
