Snowmageddon 2022 (2 Viewers)

I didn't want to tempt anything by waking up to 2 feet
Are you in Philly/South Jersey?Curious what the totals are there?
Philly here - maybe 2 inches. Heading into work. Trains operating on weekend schedule though. Parking lot pretty empty.
Less than half an inch here, and we were supposed to get more than Philly. Can't believe school was canceled for this. What a bunch of wusses.
:lmao: They cancelled school for today?

We got a dusting here in DE and school is on as scheduled.

Colossal fail.

I just grilled a ribeye poolside in my boxers. Carry on.
I've heard of grilling things in foil pouches or clay pots, or on planks of wood, but never in boxers. I imagine I would not like the aromatics of that method, but hey, to each their own.

This thread clearly illustrates that NY/NJ = all that really matters in NE.
I don't think anyone has said that. But,

1) You're talking about 3 million people being affected compared to about 12-15M in NYC to Philly and

2) Even though 18" is a lot of snow, it's still a foot plus less than what they were hyping. Of course it can still snow some more today, but it looks like their projected totals were way off on the whole.

NY/NJ is not part of NE. We are mid-Atlantic.
In the northeast. Excuse me counselor.
And had the news and weather channels led out with the story of how this storm was going to impact Providence or Boston or Portland, no one would be complaining right now. But this was a "historic" storm for NYC. NJ shut down public transit until Thursday...and it's now up and running. The LIRR could have kept on time service through 6 inches of snow.

The people complaining are NYC folks who were told this was going to be life changing.

Way off. There was a model calling for 54" in NYC at some point. 20-30" up until last night.

The hype for this outside of CT/MA was just terrible. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

And there was no pumping the brakes. I didn't hear a meteorologist talk about revising predictions downward until after midnight.

Eastern LI got hit good enough. No where near the Armageddon-like conditions. I have not been outside yet, but I'd say about 12 or so inches. Drifts are well up on my back door.

Whatever, day off (work from home) and less crap to shovel. Now just get it cleaned up so I can see my Islanders whoop the rangers tonight.

Exactly and I never heard the words "the storm could move east" uttered once.

The problem with all this overhype is that when the next big storm comes, no one is going to believe it.
The realists won't...but I think the vast majority of the population is programmed to believe whatever the worst-case scenario is, aka whatever they say on TV.

What an embarrassment to the science of meteorology. This is just a further testament to my peeve that the majority of forecasting, even by mets that have years of schooling, is merely model reading. The obvious issue is that it's reading of models that are CLEARLY flawed.

It became clear early yesterday that the redeveloping storm was moving NE off the SC coast instead of N or NNE which would be needed for impact to Philly and to a lesser extent NYC. This real time observation and subsequent projection of movement was supported by the models but no forecaster that I saw adjusted their forecast. Just merely shaved inches off.

Do weather peeps have a tough job? Absolutely. Their science is on a public stage. We don't see how often chemists or biologists fail. Coupled with the fact that public outcry is strong when something devastating happens and doomsday warnings are not sent out. What the lay person doesn't realize is the incredible volume of factors that must come together in the atmosphere to create the events that can be life altering, whether it's on a synoptic, meso or micro scale. Frankly I don't think we'll see the complete solution to the warn/ not warn, bust /not bust in my lifetime.

24 inches and still going strong, jesus
Seems like the only place really being pummeled is parts of MA, CT, RI. I don't know why the focus is so much on NY on CNN when it shows they were way off. I'd think they'd focus their attention to those areas that actually got hammered to help save face.

This. But at least they got great ratings.
Exactly.Irene, then Sandy.
Sounds like you need this.http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=586089
He has a lot of rage. He must have gotten rejected by a meteorologist at some point in time.

It is still snowing by me in NJ and it looks like there is a foot of snow on the ground. Even if the weather forecasters were off by a foot, it is still a lot of snow for me to deal with.

Where are you? It's flurrying by me here in Flemington, but we've got nowhere near a foot. I think we got more from the snow over the weekend honestly.
