The NJ snow totals in the 2010-11 winter were pretty bad too; I remember getting hit with many major storms. But the temperatures were not nearly as low as they have been this year.

40,000 people in the Philly area were without power for almost a whole week thanks to ice. In temperatures that cold, extra layers don't cut it when you don't have power.These storms have caused millions of dollars of damage, tons of injuries, lost productivity, crushed the budgets of many localities already hurting financially and lead to scores of deaths.

But yeah, no big deal. Putting a scarf on will take care of all of that.

need some positive energy amidst all the Debbie downers. I ran eight miles in this stuff today and got a sweet ice beard picture afterwards. Or I could spend my time grumbling about the cold and the snow and make those around me even more irritable.

I'm not so much talking about this board or people from some areas down south where this has been an almost once in a lifetime winter. But people in NY and friends on facebook don't shut up about the snow. I'm more sick of people complaining about it than I am of the snow itself.

Here is what makes this winter the worst:

It snows multiple times a week, every week. The temp rarely goes above freezing. We've seen record lows in terms of temps. These 3 factors by themselves are fine, but collectively miserable.

My recollection of the winter of 96 was a few major snow storms... I remember a monster 3 footer and another 1.5 footer, but it wasn't an endless day after day of misery. I'd rather get walloped with a couple of blizzards, then 4-10 inches repeatedly every couple of days on top of freezing temps.

On top of all of this, it appears drivers are getting dumber by the ####### minute. I'm tempted to take the softball bat out of my trunk and pummel the next driver I see that doesn't wipe the snow off of his windows and rear windshield. Like "hey ####face, you know the defroster isn't going to take care of that? Are you a better driver without being able to see behind you or to the side?" I've seen at least 10 of these morons today! One of these maroons is going to hurt or kill an innocent pedestrian or driver.

Anyways, this winter sucks, & last winter was awesome with mild temps and minimal snowfall... Anyone wants to ##### about how ####ty this winter is should feel free - Call me a ##### all you want, but I hate this winter so ####### much!

I'll be doing my absolute best to contribute to global warming starting right now!

I moved into a new house in November, it is a 5 acre lot with the house set back from the road. My driveway is 120 yards which makes for a fun time clearing out all of the snow. I've put a plow on my riding mower and it was fun the first two times we had snow but it lost its novelty quickly.

It is mostly crushed rock and then near the house it is pavement.I bought the house this past November and it was 14 years old so the original owner put it in. I would like to put in stamped concrete eventually although I realize that will be costly.

A terrible side effect of this brutal winter has been the pot holes. I've never seen the streets and highways pop like they already have in the last month.

Yep. Here in the Chicago area it's been costing the cities and counties a lot of money. Even the roads that aren't full of potholes are very bumpy, all the seams seem to be raising.

No kidding. I was in Philly until Friday night, luckily planned it well, so just a couple hour delay getting back. We have an office in the burbs and I had to take 76/476 back and the ramp to get onto 76 had craters in between the lanes. You could tell that the gaps between the cement lanes had been blown apart by the icing and thawing. The gaps between the lanes were probably about half a foot wide and ran along each entire section of the lanes. I can imagine the tires shredded when people aren't paying attention and try to change lanes. It almost took me by surprise and actually worried when I first saw them, it just looked like the entire highway was broken. I can imagine how bad it must be all over there.

My wife hit a couple of huge potholes earlier in the week. Had her tires rotated, balance and aligned yesterday morning. I got in her car Thursday night and found myself turning left on a straight stretch...steering wheel at 8 and 2.

Well, I live in Charlotte, which while it did get hit last week hard, doesn't normally get snow much at all. Getting over an inch here is a big deal.

That said, we aren't close enough to the ocean to really feel the affects of a hurricane, tends to be heavy rain and winds, but nothing like the coast. Not aware of earthquakes being an issue. I do enjoy the weather though and I can say for MAC_32's benefit that this week will be a no-#####ing week down here. It has been revised down a bit, but from Tuesday through Saturday it looks like an average high of 70.

Well there was Hugo so it happens. And it's possible one of the largest earthquakes in the US happened in Charleston area in the late 1700's IIRC. Rang church bells in Ohio allegedly. Plus we are close to a fault that's why there are mountains near by. We did have a couple of minor shocks last year that got press but they were centered north of here.

I'm on 76 and 476 every day, it seems like there's a new stretch of separation daily. A couple weeks ago they were shutting down 2 of 3 lanes to fill most of them in, only to have the same ones pop again. It's the worst I've ever seen it in this area.
