Well, I live in Charlotte, which while it did get hit last week hard, doesn't normally get snow much at all. Getting over an inch here is a big deal.

That said, we aren't close enough to the ocean to really feel the affects of a hurricane, tends to be heavy rain and winds, but nothing like the coast. Not aware of earthquakes being an issue. I do enjoy the weather though and I can say for MAC_32's benefit that this week will be a no-#####ing week down here. It has been revised down a bit, but from Tuesday through Saturday it looks like an average high of 70.

Well there was Hugo so it happens. And it's possible one of the largest earthquakes in the US happened in Charleston area in the late 1700's IIRC. Rang church bells in Ohio allegedly. Plus we are close to a fault that's why there are mountains near by. We did have a couple of minor shocks last year that got press but they were centered north of here.

Turns out there was a 4.1 earthquake centered near Aiken GA this weekend. Aftershocks were in the 3 range. People said they felt it in Columbia SC.

A lot of areas didn't have enough salt to handle two ice storms so close together and had to mix it with gravel to have enough to spread it around. Atlanta is hardly the only locale dealing with this.

I'm in RI and was behind a truck last week treating the roads, definitely wasn't salt they were dumping. It was some type of sand/gravel mix was dinging the crap out of all the cars behind it.

Our big thing seems to be the brine now. They brine the heck out of the roads. Then a bunch of sand. Last storm it looked like they dumped Carolina Beach on Hwy 49 there was so much sand.

Following every snow storm since I've been in GA, I've seen gravel on the roads afterward.

Don't get too comfy with the warm up at the end of this week. Long range models are saying that next week the cold returns and it could be the coldest air of the winter, if not coldest air of the past couple years. And the pattern is very favorable for winter storms. Beginning of March is looking like the next possible winter storm for the Northeast.

I can't help but laugh. So glad I got out on Friday with small delay issues. Feels good to be home again. I'm just pissed that this week keeps getting colder and colder. When I left Philly, it mentioned several days above 70 and one day at 80, now the high is 70 on Wednesday before potentially severe storms on Thursday. Everybody ready for some flooding?

I don't understand that. I have always parked in my garage and my parents did as well. I see lots of neighbors (all 3 car garages) that park outside and I just don't get it, especially with where you are and the winter you have had. Here in NC, it isn't that bad, but still during the winter the car stays relatively warm and it helps the car last longer.

I don't understand that. I have always parked in my garage and my parents did as well. I see lots of neighbors (all 3 car garages) that park outside and I just don't get it, especially with where you are and the winter you have had. Here in NC, it isn't that bad, but still during the winter the car stays relatively warm and it helps the car last longer.

Depends on the length of your driveway and how much you gotta shovel. If you park in the garage, you pretty much usually have to shovel the whole driveway. I have a fairly long driveway. I'd rather park closer to the street so I don't have to shovel as much.

Then I'll shovel a small walkway from there to the house.

Start up the jeep it melts anything less than 3+ inches of snow and makes any more MUCH easier to shove off, then climb into the warmth and charge away. Others are still de-icing their windshields

I can see that if you have a car that can't make it out until you shovel. In that case, clearing the car is far less than clearing the whole driveway. I have a medium sized driveway, but here in Charlotte, we don't usually get 10 inches, so shoveling isn't that big of a deal. Anything I can drive through, I just do with my AWD and I let the snow melt by the next day or sometimes that afternoon.

Main roads weren't too bad, but I drive a lot of back roads to get to work and I was sliding around so much, I almost got a Bronze Medal in the ice dancing category. You know it's bad when the whole time you're driving, you're thinking "Man, I wish this was snow."
