Longest, loudest thunder I've ever heard. The whole damn building shook, started thinking something big was blowing up nearby.

We had some last night that was so loud it sounded like it was directly over us. Cats were not happy.

Had a swath run through about 45 minutes ago...sounded like it was right over top of us also...about 2 minutes later four fire trucks came flying by the house. Need to go see what it hit.

Yeah it was throwing down here by the airport pretty good. Looks like it has mostly blown through though.

JUST as I read this, I see the news truck go by the house....gotta see what happened.

Inch or so. I really assumed they would have had school today. My only guess is the school board is afraid of any lawsuits if a bus breaks down and the kids get cold for a bit. We definitely need a new policy in place that we don't shut down any time it snows overnight.

I got caught out in Thunder Freezing Rain today. Scariest drive of my life...EVAH!!! Main roads weren't too bad, but I drive a lot of back roads to get to work and I was sliding around so much, I almost got a Bronze Medal in the ice dancing category. You know it's bad when the whole time you're driving, you're thinking "Man, I wish this was snow."

If my professional wrestling career ever takes off, I'm going with Thunder Freezing Rain as my ring name.

Looks like Monday is setting up for a possible big storm. 3 of the 4 major models have it as being a major storm/Nor'easter. Still 5 days out, but when the models all tend to agree, usually means that the possibility is pretty good.

Yes sir - probably only an inch and a half of snow (which is nothing compared to what we've been exposed to this winter), but it hit right at 7:00-9:00 which is the busiest time on those roads. Cars didnt adjust to having snow/ice on the roads and there were wrecks everywhere on my commute in.

One situation that was real close to me: a truck on the other side of the road hit a median and shrapnel from that wreck nearly hit my car/windshield -- it was insane

I read one report that was saying they were amazed by the amount of accidents for less than a half of inch of snow. When I drove in, I drove through the Park and the roads weren't too bad. That said, I was doing the speed limit and I had a car on my back bumper the entire time until he slid around a turn and did a little off-roading. After that, he put a good 5 cars between us.

People are idiots.

Models are still all on target for the most part. This is shaping up to linger over a 3 day period. Still too far out to predict anything definite, but the freezing line has been hovering around the Mason Dixon Line. This storm has the potential to be huge.

The first 1" snow of the year everyone freaks out and it's chaos. After several big storms, people see 1-2" as no big deal and forget that the laws of physics still apply whether there is 1" of snow or 12".

I ran into some near whiteout conditions in SJ yesterday around 10am and had people flying by me at 65mph. Morons.

I don't really understand geography and weather patterns, but the PATP seems to always be the dividing line.

I don't really understand geography and weather patterns, but the PATP seems to always be the dividing line.

The PAT and I-95 are sorta a north south and east west delineation, respectively. Points north and west are also, generally speaking, at a higher elevation while points east / south east are also along threat water.

Because of that, you can get a few key degrees difference by going 20-50 miles from say the Jersey Shore inland and from NYC going north.

As a lot of the superstorms are combos of a cold system going west to east combining with a nor'easter going along the shore south to north, that means that the coastal, lower lying areas are going to be a few degrees warmer than inland / hire elevations. As a lot of the coastal storms with all their energy teeter right around the 32 degree mark, it could easily be 34 degrees east and shore but 30 just a few miles inland.

KDKA always differentiates between Pittsburgh weather and "north of I-80".

I'm from Central PA, which probably has a lot to do with why I feel like I hear the PAT referenced with every storm. It's probably buried in my subconscious from the local weathermen.

mercifully south of the snow/rain line. They're saying freezing rain, but based on the temps prior, that doesn't make sense. For it to freeze, the ground needs to be cold enough to freeze it when it lands. Doesn't look like that is going to be the case. The words don't reconcile with the numbers.
