Wouldn't it be fairly difficult for most people to even get to the stadium because of the snow?

 
It's hard to wrap your head around 70 inches of snow in one day. But maybe this can help a little. Philadelphia had its second snowiest winter EVER last season with a total of 67.4 inches.

I think Buffalo averages something like 110 inches annually. Some of the suburbs, like Lancaster where John Kreese lives, have already gotten 60+. I'm watching local news here and Buffalo snow is the top story! Unbelievable. Part of me is happy I'm not there and part of me is jealous that I'm missing history,

My next door neighbor does. And my neighbor behind me has a backhoe. Across the street neighbor owns a construction company so he has all the big toys. No neighbor on the other side...so all my direct neighbors have toys. I only have a lawn "tractor" so I feel a little under equipped.

 
Thunder and lightening with blizzard conditions in downtown Buffalo right now - what the hell did these people do to deserve this?

 
John, where do you live in Lancaster? I lived on Foxhunt Rd in the development off Warner many years ago and your pics looked kind of familiar.

Literally like a mile from there. Off Pleasantview on the other side of Central.

Of course this is after a long stay in the Reseda area.

 
Looks like next week, over the Thanksgiving holiday, the set up will be very similar to this past week for places like Buffalo. Hard to imagine they'd see numbers like this week, but it is a possibility.

 
Just found out my cousin got stranded in orchard park on tuesday. Police rescued him and he's currently in a shelter. Has no clue where his car is.

 
Models for the Thanksgiving storm had been pushing it out to sea over the past couple days, but the past couple of runs have been moving it back westward. It's kind of like a two pronged attack, as there is a chance for Thanksgiving Eve snow as well as Fri/Sat snow. The latter had been looking like the better chance, but as I said, the former is looking good right now.

Yup. Roller coaster. After Thanksgiving, the general consensus for the long range was a warm up. But that may not hold true. Even if it does, the warm up would end near the 10th, which is when the next solid storm signal shows up on the models.

 
Storm for Thanksgiving Eve/Thanksgiving is a meteorologist's nightmare. Forecast too big and everyone claims you are fear mongering. Forecast it too little and the busiest travel day of the year in the U.S. becomes a nightmare scenario where lives are put in harm's way. It's a lose/lose situation.

 
Thanksgiving snow on the east coast. Woo! NOT! I'm on call. Won't be fun if I have to drive across the mountains in the snow. Unless I take the Jeep of course.

 
Stepping in for the missing Sheik, the latest model guidance has a plowable snow for I95 on the busiest travel day of the year.

 
Models continue to converge on a moderate to heavy snow event on Wed-Wed night. Especially north and west of the I 95 corridor from Virginia to New England.

Philly to Pittsburgh Tuesday and back on Saturday. Hopefully I miss this crap. Driving with an insane woman and 4 month old.

If you can get an early start on Wed. you might beat it. Otherwise, yes it could be messy. Roads probably won't be too bad (sort of sloppy) though since it's so warm today and tomorrow. I would think precip on the roads will melt.

 
Supposed to drive Long Island to Rochester. Any idea if Wednesday night (say 7pm-1am) or Thursday morning (say 6am-12pm) would be better?

As others have talked about in here over the weekend, models have all come around to seeing this storm this week. On Saturday, 2 of the 3 major models began seeing a major storm while the third model began trending towards a big storm. By Sunday, all of them were on board.

Of the 3 major models, the most aggressive model for snowfall was the Euro. It was also the model that saw this storm first. This is important because the Euro is the best at handling Nor'easters, which is what this storm will become. So while the other two models have a storm, their snow totals are quite smaller, but still significant.

In my area, I expect to see snow start falling around 8 am and ending around midnight. At some point during the day, some sleet could mix in, but I don't think we'll see a changeover to all rain at any point. I'm saying the we probably see between 4 to 8 inches, and I'm leaning more towards the higher end of that.

One thing I want to address, as many of my friends asked me about this over the weekend: It does not matter how warm it is today. Some people have said that even if it snows, it won't stick to the pavement and they couldn't be more dead wrong. While it is true that the temps will be quite warm today, they have been much colder for much longer. One day of warm temperatures will not affect the frozen ground temps. Also, heavy snow rates can accumulate on very warm surfaces. These two things will mean that today's temps will have no bearing on Wednesday's snowfall. As a reference, the Halloween storm in 2011 was much earlier in the year and two days before it snowed, the temps were in the 70's. Trust me: A late November storm can and will stick to the roads.
