So there was a mass stabbing at a school near Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

Four life flighted, so not everyone out of the woods.
Dr. Chris Kaufmann at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, spoke to CNN on air. He said the facility is treating seven teens with stab wounds to their torso, abdomen, chest and back areas. He said that the injuries were "quite serious" and that "some are clearly life-threatening." An adult is also being treated there, he said.

As terrible as this is, if there had been a gun, there would likely be many, many more casualties.
We can reduce suicides by demolishing the GG Bridge too.
There was a study done about suicide and guns. Controlled study monitoring known suicide risks over a course of several years. In homes with guns, there was a higher fatality rate than there was in homes without guns. There was no significant difference in the number of suicide attempts, but there was a far greater success rate for those who had guns in the home. Researchers said this was primarily because the gun was an easy and immediate method, as opposed to slitting wrists or taking pills which allows the suicidal person to reconsider and call for help. According to research, apparently suicidal impulses occur and pass in relatively short periods, peaking at about 10 minute and then subsiding. I am paraphrasing from the radio but those were the major points. I tried searching for it and found references to the study but not the study itself.

Guns are the No. 1 way people kill themselves in the U.S. Experts say that as guns are far more immediately lethal than alternate suicide methods such as hanging or drug overdoses, their presence creates a deadly mix when combined with a sudden, overwhelming impulse to harm oneself.
A gun “is immediate. It’s easy, it’s right there,” said Linda Hofmann, director of behavioral health services at Frederick Memorial Healthcare System. Suicide “... doesn’t require planning if they have a firearm in the house.”

In my 36 years I never heard or saw the term"life flighted" until I saw it twice in this very thread.
In Pittsburgh, the original medical helicopters were called 'LifeFlight' so, now anytime someone is taken to the hospital in a medical helicopter, we say they were life flighted. Not sure how the rest of the country says it.

Just caught an update with the defense attorney this morning and he stated that there was no bullying involved and the kid had no other known issues which makes this more scarier.
I always heard the term MediVac

I always heard the term MediVac
MedFlight here. It's generally a term cooked up by the hospital with the helicopter.

I've always thought that civillian medical response helicpoters were referred to as "life-flight/ing/ed", whereas military evecuations of wounded or dead from the combat zone was referred to as "Medi-Vac'd".

Just did a little googling...LifeFlight is run by Allegheny General Hospital. There is also STAT MedEvac in the area, but they are generically called LifeFlight as well.

Ottawa (AFP) - Five people died overnight in a stabbing rampage at a house party held to mark the end of university classes in the Canadian city of Calgary, local media said Tuesday.

Police were reportedly called around 1:30 am to a home in a quiet suburban neighborhood where paramedics found three people dead. Two more died in hospital.

Public broadcaster CBC said all of the victims -- four men and one woman -- were in their late teens or 20s.

A suspect has been arrested after a chase involving police dogs, CBC said.

Authorities were not immediately available to comment.

Craziness everywhere
