Some good info on Bucs RBs (1 Viewer)

I'm switching back to Portis and leaving Graham on the bench. Too much uncertainty right now. If Graham can get 15-20 touches, he should do well. But, I'm just not sure what he'll get. I'm extremely confident Portis will get 20-25 touches. While he should struggle more with his touches, Portis will have more chances to help me.

Stop giving me deja vu.

I'm all aboard the one week Michael Bennett flex train.Unlike the moronic Eric Mangini, Gruden knows how to game plan against an inferior opponent by taking advantage of his enemy's greatest weaknesses. Gruden is not going to have Garcia drop back and throw the ball 40 times like Favre did last week. He is going to pound the ball down the throats of the weak KC defense. I can see 35 rushes by TB which would likely translate to 20-25 carries for Graham and 10-15 carries for Bennett. Throw in some dump off passes and it is quite feasible that Bennett gets 15-20 touches. I have seen what the KC defense is capable of giving up on the ground. It is not unrealistic at all for Bennett to net 100 total yards and a possible score. Sure I could flex Mason and hope for a steady 5 catches for 50 yards and no score. I'll roll the dice on Bennett. The matchup is too tempting.
 I guess you can outsmart yourself pretty easily, eh? I wish risk taking didn't involve risk.

Quezilla posted some good links and info. The conjecture and not facts had me concerned. It's not that unlike every other injury substitution discussion or articles around here at all. Something smelled funny is all. I'm still thankful he took the time to point it out with all his research.

:lmao:

I really thought Bennett would get most of Dunn's touches. So much for trying to figure out how Gruden will game-plan.

Mon, Nov 3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden said during his press conference Monday, Nov. 3, that RB Earnest Graham (knee) is having his knee examined after injuring it during the team's Week 9 game. Graham's status for Week 10 is uncertain.

Mon, Nov 3 Graham suffered a knee injury of undisclosed severity in Sunday's Buccaneers-Chiefs game, the St. Petersburg Times reports.

Recommendation: Head coach Jon Gruden released no details on Monday on either the extent of Graham's injury or how it happened, although he did state he was "worried" about the injury. Graham carried the ball during the Bucs' game-winning drive in overtime, so either the injury happened during the game's last few plays or it was not enough to keep Graham out of the game on Sunday. He will be evaluated by the Bucs on Monday, with further word likely coming by Tuesday. Graham fumbled the ball away on his first carry Sunday (leading to a Chiefs touchdown), but had a productive game afterwards. Graham gained 62 yards on 19 carries, added 55 more yards on six receptions (seven targets, second highest on the team Sunday), and even threw a three-yard touchdown pass on an option play, the first of his NFL career.

Uh oh - that bolded part is what one never wants to hear before the tests are even conducted.

I'm thinking his status for week 10 should be very clear - he is on bye and will be resting his knee following the examination.

Do you hear that? That rumbling? I think it might be the Caddy bandwagon firing up and getting ready to roll out of the gate.

Anyone heard anything on Graham's knee. Is no news good news or is this something we wont get any more info about until after the bye week. Looking to trade for him but worried this is going to play out like the Willie Parker situation.

TAMPA — This is how dire the Bucs' running back situation is becoming: Jon Gruden hopes to get a lift from a player with a reconstructed right knee who hasn't taken a hit on the field in more than 13 months.

The return of Cadillac Williams, possible after the bye week, was merely a feel-good story until the run of injuries at running back.

Starting tailback Earnest Graham was forced to leave Sunday's 30-27 overtime win at Kansas City with a knee injury but finished the game. Backup Warrick Dunn didn't even make the trip because of a pinched nerve in his back. Fullback B.J. Askew has missed six games with a hamstring strain.

No wonder Gruden took the unprecedented step of giving players seven days off from practice.

"It's going to help us," Gruden said of the bye week. "Obviously our running back situation in particular is very concerning to us. Both fullbacks, both halfbacks. Carnell Williams will get a chance to work in this week a little bit more, and we'll determine his progress next week. But we've got a number of guys that are nicked up and guys that we need back. Hopefully this week will help us."

Graham, the Bucs' leading rusher with 560 yards and four touchdowns, has taken hits as a ballcarrier and at fullback. He has filled in for Askew and Byron Storer, who was placed on injured reserve after tearing his right ACL against Carolina.

"I think he got hurt early in the game," Gruden said of Graham. "He went to the locker room; trainers looked at him. Courageously, he came out and played in the second half. It's a tough time of year, midseason, for a running back in the NFL. These guys are all sore and beat up.

"Have we asked a lot of Earnest? Maybe too much at times, yes, yes we have, but that's what you do with your best players. … We got to lean on our guy and he's our only healthy, versatile back going into the game, so that was our plan (Sunday). Unfortunately, we fell behind and we obviously had to get into a little bit of a throw-it mentality late in the game."

Graham rushed 19 times for 62 yards and threw his first NFL touchdown against the Chiefs. And he lost two fumbles. With Dunn inactive, the Bucs did not make much use of Michael Bennett, who had two carries for 1 yard.

But the Bucs got some help from Clifton Smith, the undrafted rookie free agent from Fresno State who had a 97-yard kickoff return. While Graham was undergoing tests, Smith pitched in with three carries for 17 yards and caught one pass (though he also lost a fumble).

"He really helped us not only in the kicking game but from scrimmage," Gruden said. "Earnest went out in the first half and missed a few possessions, came back and gritted it out. But in those final couple drives, you saw a lot of Clifton Smith, as a runner and a receiver, picking up the blitz, knowing what to do. …

"You look at him, he's not a tall guy, but he's a very thick, quick, shifty, elusive back. And he's a natural — he understands the game and he shows great poise as a player."

As for Williams, Gruden hopes to use practice squad players to provide contact during individual workouts this week. The Bucs have until next week to activate Williams or put him on injured reserve.

"(Williams) is not, I am sure, real thrilled about enjoying his bye week like some of the other guys, but we will have him in pads (today) and Wednesday," Gruden said. "He has a great look in his eye. He is very confident, I think, in his knee and what he has put into this.

"We will see what Earnest and Warrick's health status is and we will make that decision next week, but there is a possibility that (Williams) can help us, and that would be really exciting."

Mort did say yesterday on the pregame show that Caddy is looking good and might be able to help the rest of the season. If Gruden was just blowing smoke about how Caddy is going and doesn't really expect him to come back this year, you would assume Mort would not have used some of his precious airtime touting him.

Coach Jon Gruden commented on Cadillac Williams during Monday's press conference, according to the Tampa Tribune. Gruden said, "It’s exciting. I’ve said that for a long time. It’s almost like Christmas is here. Christmas is Wednesday, I hope. We’ll see how Williams feels and talk to the trainers, the medical people. If my eyes don’t deceive me, I think he’s got a chance to be a player this year for our team, and that would be exciting."

Our View: If Williams is activated and proves to be healthy, he could see a favorable workload with Warrick Dunn dealing with his back ailment and Earnest Graham recovering from a knee injury.

Coach Jon Gruden commented on Earnest Graham's knee injury sustained in Week 9 against the Chiefs, according to the Tampa Tribune. Gruden said, "We’ll see where he is on Wednesday. He hurt his knee. He has a chance to play in this game but I can’t really tell you anymore until Wednesday when we see him here in the next 48 hours."

Our View: Hopefully he can play in Week 11, but will have a tough match-up against the Vikings. We will keep you posted on his status.

Not sure of how reliable this guy is but enjoy anyway...........

Lots of qualifiers in Gruden's comments:"We staged a couple drills for Carnell Williams to get hit. He responded to it. It's exciting" (But how exactly did he respond? Well enough to play??)

"Christmas is Wednesday, I hope." (He hopes.)

"he has a chance to be a player this year" (How much of a chance? 1% is still a chance, right?)

"This guy is a very good back...We have film to prove that." (Yeah, film from 2005)

"We want him to be a big part of our organization." (Of course he WANTS it....but that doesn't mean it will happen)

"if he's healthy, he's going to play here" (IF he is HEALTHY)

"As we gather more information and get evidence that he's 100 percent back, obviously, his role will be determined by that" (he's not at 100% and who we don't know when he'll be at 100%, if ever)

They'd be smart to activate him, if for no other reason than to have some extra insurance and not lose him to IR for the entire season.

But, if Dunn and Graham are healthy, don't count on Cadillac getting any significant playing time. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me to see him inactive on most weeks.
