Spencer Ware, possibly the new work horse (1 Viewer)

The more they use him the higher the odds that he gets nicked up and which opens the door for Charles (whom I believe is healthy  and they're just waiting for Ware to wear down).  I think this is the same situation as Bell-Williams-Bell-Williams of 2015. At some point we will see Charles and he will be great until he gets knocked out for the season at which point Ware will perform like DeAngelo did last year.

Yeah. NFL organizations don't do this.

What?

West has been ruled out. Charles is questionable.

It looks like Charles is going to play..

Despite being listed as questionable (knee), Chiefs' RB Jamaal Charles will make 2016 season debut Sunday night in Pitt, per source.
I can't imagine that he gets that much work.

Losing any passing game work would kind of be a bummer in this matchup though. Guess we can hope for a lot of rain the day before and day of game because Heinz Field sucks and they may not want to risk Charles' knee on that turf.

Own both JC and Ware and sitting JC. I just can't see a large load for Charles right now. After the bye next week, that may change.

Right, but if West was healthy, JC would likely be out and West would get some of the touches anyway. I don't think it changes much for Ware this week. The big question will be how Charles looks.

Think I'm going to plug in Hyde over Ware based on the Jamaal news. If I didn't have Hyde I'd be comfortable starting Ware. I doubt Jamaal will get many touches.

My take? West is too injured to play. They need to dress someone in case Ware gets hurt. Ware gets a full load.

Let the fun begin.

I'm not going to lie, I'm actually pretty surprised that Charles is suiting up and it's solely because he hasn't turned in a full practice yet this season. I'm leaning towards subscribing to the idea that Charles is more so an emergency back-up with West on the shelf.

I still feel confident starting Ware.

Yes if west wasn't ruled out and they did this I would be more concerned.  I think charles gets a few carries and a few targets.  That's it.

He may even get the ceremonial first series

What makes you believe in the transparency of NFL coaches? Have you learned nothing from the Shanahans, Parcells and Beliceks' of the world?

I don't think NFL coaches purposely hold players out of games to play another guy hoping he gets injured.

Am I overthinking things to consider starting Marvin Jones at WR2 and Ware over OBJ vs. Vikings at flex????  That's nuts right?

WRs vs. Vikings

Week 1:  Sharpe 7-76-0

Week 2:  Jordy 5-73-1

Week 3:  KB 0-0-0

I suppose that's not terrible (except week 3 obviously).

I'm starting Gordon over Ware.  I am debating between Ware and Gurley for spot number 2.  Why can't the Rams be a decent organization?

You can't go there.   Not yet.  Stick with gurley.  He was likely your 1st RD pick.  You'll be sry if he has a big game.

Jordy just did that...Benjamin only had 1 target too

I think OBJ should be fine...though, Jordy was without Rhodes.

Just think Beckham will get his (I have him and will be benching, Benjamin, Fitz, Forte, or Ware to make sure I don't bench Beckham...and benching Fitz in another for Beckham and Cooks in a TD heavy league.)

I agree. I think it's more likely that a coach would save a player that is injury prone until he really needs him instead of playing both in the same game and running the risk of having two nicked up RB's at the same time.

I think KC puts Charles in the West role to ease him in before the bye. Shake off some rust, get some confidence, log a few carries and get ready for after the bye.

My concern is that the Steelers are pretty well coached. I don't see them getting pushed around at home following a blowout. More likely they come out inspired and shut everything down.

I'll probably play him, though. I could roll out Freeman and Coleman together in PPR. I watched Monday night. I just don't see that being a wise move the vast majority of the time. So good chance I'll be sticking with Ware. Charles isn't really factoring in the decision.

The NFL does not work that way. RBs get nicked up all the time. It is part of the job. You don't shelve a great RB until you need him, because you don't want him to get nicked up at the same time another very good RB might. They are getting paid to play, and coaches play whoever gives them the best chance to win.

There is no such thing as the "NFL way". Each team is unique and operates in their own unique way. It's called strategy.

anyone who believes that JC will get more than a handful of touches is delusional
I'm in this camp.  I own JC, but not ware.  Jc is on my bench for hill, David Johnson, and Crowell.  If crowell's matchup wasn't so tasty I might consider Charles over him.

But I kind of want to see where Charles is at before plugging him in.   If I miss a blow-up game I'm ok with that and he'll be a fixture in my lineup as my rb2 from week 6 on.

 Here's what we know:

-Charles was listed as a limited participant all week at practice again, as he has been since Week 1

-Charles was still working with the scout team this week

-Reid's comments on Charles have been the exact same as they've been since the beginning of the season

-Charcandrick West is out with an injury

-Adam Schefter has a source that says Charles will be active Sunday

-Schefter also had a source that said Charles will be active in Week 3, and wasn't

To me, this sounds like nothing has really changed with Charles. IF he is active on Sunday, it sounds like that is only because the team will be without West and they need another RB on the roster. Charles is probably ok enough to serve as an emergency backup behind Ware and Davis. I am firing up Ware with full confidence. I do not expect Charles to see many snaps, if any.

If Reid is pulling some elaborate multi-week ruse and Charles is actually 100% ready to roll, and plays a big part on Sunday, power to him. Given the information we have though, I'm not sure how anyone can make that read.

I'm still starting Ware. With Charles coming back so slowly it's really hard to imagine they suddenly give him a big load right before his bye. I agree that this is probably a chance to shake off the rust in a real game with a few carries here and there. Could be wrong though, but think you got to start Ware unless you have much better choices.
