I'm wondering if he wrote "left hand" by accident.

I've watched the play about ten times now. Raiders LB David Tollefson blitzed Stafford, and it looked like Matt's right hand/wrist hit the top of Tollefson's helmet after he followed through. Hope it's nothing serious.

It wasn't the follow through on the pass, it was when the defenseman buried his helmet crown into his left hand and pinned it to his chest on the way down. I'm guessing a significant bruise and hoping against the break.

Looks like we dodged a bullet. Carry on.

The Lions were hoping to get a half out of starting quarterback Matthew Stafford on Saturday night, but they will have to settle for a bit more than a quarter.Shaun Hill has replaced Stafford in the second quarter of their game against the Raiders after Stafford had to leave the game with a left hand injury. Stafford appeared to hit the hand on a helmet when Raiders defensive end Dave Tollefson hit him to force a third down incompletion. The Lions are calling his return questionable, although you can downgrade Stafford to out if you’re keeping your own injury list at home. Stafford won’t be back after halftime and the Lions aren’t going to push their quarterback back into the game with any chance of making whatever’s wrong with his non-throwing hand any worse than it already is.Stafford was 8-of-10 for 68 yards in the game. Calvin Johnson didn’t have any catches while Stafford was in the game, although it’s not clear if that was because of Ron Bartell’s coverage or if the Lions were looking to see what others could do in their third preseason contest.

seems like bad luck but its a good reminder that stafford should still be considered to be an injury prone player

Meh...taking a helmet square to the hand at full speed does not make you injury prone. If he goes down with another season ender any time soon, you can label him all you want.Replay of the sidelines had them pressing ice on and checking the top of his left hand.

:goodposting: !!!Get rid of this chump ASAP, he is an injury waiting to happen. He gets hurt every year and will never realize his potential. SELL NOW before it's too late! I'll give you 2 firsts for him in 2013 if you don't want to just dump him to the FA list. :bag:

i already said that's just bad luck.he missed significant time in 2 out of his 3 years. in my book, that is not a guy i feel comfortable taking.he missed more games over the last 2 years than dmac did in the last 3 years. to laugh at me because i say stafford is injury prone is silly

Who's laughing at you? I simply questioned the injury prone statement. Dont be a sensitive Sally.

Reminder that he's been hurt in the past or reminder that the game of football is dangerous and anyone can be hurt on any play kind of reminder?

it is a reminder that he gets hurt more often than the average QB.anyone can get hurt at any time in football, but that doesn't mean each player has the exact same likely hood of getting hurt. some players have stronger achilles tendons than others, for example. that doesn't mean a player with weak tendons is guaranteed to get hurt, but it does mean that player is more likely to.we don't have access to every players full medical records, but we can use past injury history to get a more accurate understanding as to which players are more likely to get hurt than others.

Just read this. Sounds like good news:

The Detroit Lions appear to have dodged a bullet with Matthew Stafford's latest injury. Head coach Jim Schwartz acknowledged at halftime that Stafford "got his hand banged up" but that he thinks he's OK fater leaving Saturday night's game early in the second quarter with an apparent injury to his non-throwing hand.

Stafford's left hand collided with a Raider helmet on 3rd-and-2 and headed towards the bench where he was surrounded by members of the Lions medical staff. He applied ice to his hand but did not return.

Stafford's had a history of injury so this is obviously concerning. He played last year with an injury to his throwing hand so it doesn't appear to be anything that will keep him out of any games.

From the Detroit Free Press:

Stafford injured his left non-throwing hand on a pass attempt two minutes into the second quarter of the Lions’ 31-20 loss to the Raiders, but X-rays were negative and Stafford said he would have returned to the game if it were the regular season.

“Probably what would have happened in a regular-season game is right after it happened I would have just run up for X-rays and if they said they were negative I would have come back in the game,” Stafford said. “It feels OK right now; it feels fine really. Just scary to look down and see your hand swelling up by the second.”

Stafford, who finished 8 of 10 passing for 68 yards, hurt his hand on a third-down incompletion to Titus Young when Raiders defensive end Dave Tollefson side-stepped a Mikel Leshoure block and hit Stafford in the chest.

Stafford’s left hand took the blunt of the blow, and he said Tollefson’s helmet popped a blood vessel that made his hand start “puffing right up.”
So much for "injury prone"

He got injured...again...therefore he's injury prone. No one ever said players have to not play due to their injuries to be labeled injury prone

While his injuries have hurt my fantasy team in the past, the one thing I was amazed about was the fact he is still even playing after the way Peppers damn near took his arm off in Week 1 a couple years ago, I was at the game live and almost lost my lunch watching his arm get bent like that.

uhhh dmac didn't get hurt last game. does that mean he isn't injury prone anymore?

Stafford played 16 games last year and is on pace to start this year. Injury prone is a term people use for him that couldn't get him in their draft or didn't have the foresight to keep him when he was "injury prone."

There are guys that continuous get injured. Stafford has played a full season without injury. I think the term comes off him for now.
