Stafford has a fractured finger (1 Viewer)

lots of comedians on this site, i wish people on this site had as much football info as they do jokes.how can you not be happy for the lions and they way they are playing scrappy?

people here i assume would be all over stafford if he didnt play with his history.

footballguys.com, where everyone is an expert i guess. at least its what i notice in my 3 months here.
Because when they win they are sky high and when they lose they:-Go after the opposing coach

-Cheap shot the team multiple times

or

When the QB throws an INT and doesn't make the tackle:

-throws his hands in the air calling out the WR or begging the Refs

-throws down an opposing player by the helmet once he is out of play

Also meet Nick Fairley everyone:

now c'mon man! that's football the way it used to be played - manstyle.i think that's the way the game should be played. who cares about the rules. they should go back to the helmets without facemasks and hit each other whenever they want. who cares about refs and whistles...bunch a sissies.

Saved Phenix some time.

That was a clean hit on Cutler..Fairley was just finishing the tackle.

Last week I had to decide to trade Romo or Stafford. I think I made the wrong choice.
This is one of many examples of an overreaction to this one game...not just Stafford, but the Lions. They just didn't have it yesterday. They had 2 early turnovers and after Hester's punt return TD it snowballed and all of a sudden they were down 20 points before they knew it. That is not an easy thing for a young team to handle sometimes. Turnovers can cause any team to get blown out and up to now the Lions had the fewest turnovers in the league. People are writing the Lions off based on this game and I think that is too much of an overreaction.
I'd prefer Romo to Stafford going Forward too. Better weapons and he's a better all around QB.
Romo is 7 years older and has made a million more mistakes in those 7 years so I would hope he'd be a better Qb with all the lessons he's learned from those mistakes. Barring injury, though, I'm 99% certain we'll all look back on both careers and realize stafford is 10 times the Qb Romo is.It's amazing what a good running game will do for a qb. Look at how Romo has improved since Murray exploded on to the scene. Suddenly looks a hell of a lot smarter now that defenses have to respect that aspect of the Cowboy offense.
Well, that and his punctured lung has healed along with his broken rib. You didn't hear him whining about it either. All he did was lead his team to victory in a hostile environment against the second best team in the NFC.
And I would never take that away from Romo. Not saying he's not tough, nor am I saying he isn't a good Qb. Reminds me of another qb who separated his shoulder on one play then came in to throw the winning touch down on the very next play. And how is revealing an injury considered whining. Anyone who has watched enough of Stafford has see that he can put he ball anywhere he wants....a fractured finger on a QBs throwing hand certainly explains why so many throws were off yesterday. Admittedly I didn't hear the audio of Stafford indicating he had the injury, so I can't speak to the tone of his explanation. If he had tears in his eyes, was snifling like a 4 year old and speaking with a Wendy Whiner tone, I'll agree that he was whining about the injury and I will stand corrected.

This is much larger than one play, if you look at the clips. If it was a clean hit, why was he flagged? Want to bet he gets fined?

If this is the way that refs are being instructed to call penalities, the league might as well remove the helmet and pads from the players and put flag belts around their waist. On Sunday's we will be watch the NFFL (National Flag Football League).

On the second link did you just watch the first 10 seconds where he drives the QB into the ground?Did you stick around until the 29 second mark where Fairley speared the QB in the back?

Did you stick around until the 1:09 mark where Fairley dove helmet first into the QB's knee?

There is no defending the spear in the back, that could have crippled the QB.

You clearly didn't look at any of the plays. Count how long the ball was gone for and what Fairley did.

Whole lotta Michigan fishing trips going on in here. Lot's a people biting on some real stinky bait too.

Um no. They both have easy schedules but besides the G-men, Dallas will put more emphasis on running the ball with these weaker teams. I guarantee Stafford puts up better numbers than Romo rest of the season.

is it possible to re-focus this thread on Stafford's finger instead of who is more tough/weak between Bears and Lions?

"Source: The Detroit News - Eric Lacy

Detroit Lions head coach Matthew Stafford (finger) will not be 100 percent healthy heading into the team's Week 11 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Jim Schwartz. It's unclear if Stafford will wear a splint or a glove to protect his injured hand."

If he did this during the Denver game, continued to play (play well) and then they had the bye, I'm inclined to think it's not that big a deal and that his poor play vs the Bears had more to do with the wind and bad decisions. I guess it's really hard to say though.

His passes to the defenders were on the money. He just needs to focus more when he's passing to his own WR's.His throwing mechanics seemd weird from the get go. He was throwing passes as if to say 'here, go get it.' By the end of the game it was 'I'm going to throw off my back foot exclusively, now go get it.'

According to the Detroit Free Press, Matthew Stafford (finger) appeared to "throw the ball with ease" and took his usual amount of first-team reps at Lions practice on Wednesday.

Per beat writer Dave Birkett, Stafford "showed little residual effects" from the broken finger. He did sport gloves and made hand-offs with his left hand only, but this is a good sign for his chances of playing with improved accuracy against the Panthers. Healthier now and no longer having to play at windy Soldier Field, Stafford's fantasy prospects are looking up for Week 11.

Now I'm confused. If he "threw the ball with ease" right out of the gate at practice, was the finger and/or gloves the reason for the poor passes? Or was it something else? Was the wind really that much of an issue? (Gould had a 40+ and 50 yarder)

Yea I saw the whole game and it seemed he was throwing flat-footed and sidearming some of those passes. He didn't seem to be "into" the game.

I think the finger and the wind both played a role, but I agree with the above more than anything. I think he looked ok in the first 2 drives, but he seemed to get rattled by the turnovers and being down 20-0 early. I'm chalking it up to Stafford just having a bad game. It happens and remember this is a young player without a lot of games under his belt.

I'm concerned, and want to see him play again, before I start him again. He is rated highly this week on this site..........and the media in Detroit seems to think he's fine. call me pessimistic. anyone have any more insight?

Guy, he had a sore finger, gloves, and was playing in high winds. It would appear all of these factors have been mitigated to different extents this week.

um, ok. he has a FRACTURED finger on his throwing hand, and threw 4 picks last week. yea, this week he's playing at home outta the wind, but that fractured finger still has me worried. It could definately be a lingering problem. I dont think thats an outlandish conclusion.

why you gotta act like that? this is a worthy FF discussion. lighten up.

Stafford threw two interceptions in his first eight passes, but rebounded for his best statistical game of the season - 5 touchdowns, 335 yards passing and a 121.9 passer rating.

The offense started the game with three straight turnovers and ended it with 7 TDs in 9 possessions. 49 points is the 2nd highest single game point total in the NFL this year (Saints, 62). The Lions completed their third come from behind victory this season of 17 or more points (17, 20, 24).

But yeah, focus on the negative.

I was concerned after the poor decisions....but man did he look fantastic after that. His passes were on the money and he made some great throws. Amazing what a running game does for a QB (Romo/Stafford).

In the second half he gave everybody the finger.
i gave him the finger after his third interception. as raider nation said he did manage to put up 16+ fantasy points, so that's not as bad as i was expecting. at the turkey table i did not give thanks to hanson since he got me -1 points due to a missed field goal. <_<

Hanson is usually money @ home, you could tell it wasn't going to be their day when he missed that.

I know. Maybe their coach didn't have the team eat anything before the game so that they'd be "hungry for the game", but that backfired and made them all irritable and tired. If someone had given Hanson a turkey leg to munch on he would have made the field goal. I think Suh would have eaten that player if he had had the energy to do it. Now I feel bad for giving Stafford the finger. The team was starving.

They will have 10 days to eat now, Suh will have even more time to gather his strength.
