From podcasts and articles I've seen, this wasn't the case.I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a detailed story outline for eps. 7-9 before they filmed TFA.

There were a few hints of Luke not being there physically- his hair/beard were different, he didn't leave red marks, he came out of nowhere, and he had his light saber (Didn't Rey have it and it got broken in 1/2?)Next person to go see this again - I am curious about the final scene with Luke and Kylo Ren.
My recollection is that prior to the main attack, they showed a rebel/resistance soldier walking on the salt flats, and they showed a close-up of the red planet under his footsteps - obviously foreshadowing the "red" trail under the mono-skis. But, I wonder if it was also attempting to foreshadow Luke's "trick".
I know in the Luke v. Kylo scenes they focused on the feet a couple of times - but I can't recall if they were showing that Luke was moving his feet, and no salt foot prints were left (or were they showing Kylo Ren's footwork?). Or, was that entire area already cleared of the salt from the ongoing battle/laser blasts?
Just curious. Thanks!
The mentions in there are of domestic. So many blockbusters now are geared to rake in money overseas.yikes. Looks like the box office decline is historic (although the timing of Christmas eve likely did not help)
The Last Jedi's Gargantuan $151M 2nd Weekend Plunge Is An Epic Hollywood Choke
But @Andy Dufresne - don't forget at the core of the movie we have an exciting slow speed chase through space as we patiently wait for the good guys' fuel to run out!I get more disappointed the more I think about it.
Not only is it a bad story in its own right, it took nearly everything that was interesting from TFA and brushed it aside.
Will the New Order really destroy the Republic? - answered to the affirmative in the opening crawl. And we're not going to answer in any more detail which planets those were that Starkiller Base destroyed. Now move along.
Who is Snoke? - A disposable bad guy, as it turns out. It's not really relevant where he came from or where he was during the events of the OT or PT.
Where did Rey come from? - Nowhere, just like it seemed.
What was Luke doing on that island? - Quitting. Now stop asking so many questions!!!
Will Finn become a new hero of the Republic/Rebellion? - No, we're going to have him provide comedic relief while on a pointless side mission.
And on and on and on...
So in the end, almost nothing in TFA mattered.
Nice, hadn’t noticed that. They showed it during several scenes. On that planet when you walked on the ground you would leave red streaks. Only when Luke walked was there no streaks.
I wonder if that was an OJ Simpson allegory. But @Andy Dufresne - don't forget at the core of the movie we have an exciting slow speed chase through space as we patiently wait for the good guys' fuel to run out!![]()
Most movies go -50% plus in their second week. -69% is a tad high, but I’m of a mind that once this movie hits China, the money printing goes back to ludicrous speed. The mentions in there are of domestic. So many blockbusters now are geared to rake in money overseas.
But if they put out a better product it could have been the biggest success of all time. What a disappointment for Disney. To put out a movie that could be one of the top five global successes of all time.
As I understand it China hasn’t connected with Star Wars historically. Hence the loading up on Asians in the new Movies. But China is as I recall pretty racist so maybe they won’t dig on this Asian broad kissing FinnMost movies go -50% plus in their second week. -69% is a tad high, but I’m of a mind that once this movie hits China, the money printing goes back to ludicrous speed.
How bad would a star war movie have to Be to bomb. No that this is bad but they’re like a marvel property currently in that the floor is pretty high. ANY thing would make moneyWhat a disappointment for Disney. To put out a movie that could be one of the top five global successes of all time.
None of this explains the drop. The open with big. There was three years in between ESB being released and ANH being released.
People can compare ESB ticket sales to TLJ, but it was only one year in between R1 and TLJ being released. The public overall isn't as hungery for a new Star Wars movie when they're being released every 12 months as opposed to every 36 months.
The nerds however will go to every single one even if they were being released every single week.
Disney is going to do what maximizes their return on their investment in the franchise. I don't see a problem with that, even if it means the ticket sales of each movie don't compare to the original trilogy.
Sales at my business on Friday and Saturday the 22nd and 23rd were the worst Friday and Saturday we ever had. I don't think the drop was specific to TLJ. I think people just planned more weekend christmas parties because christmas eve was on Sunday.None of this explains the drop. The open with big.
The drop is word of mouth and repeat business.
This was Luke back in action for the first time in 35 years.
Jumanji seems pretty popular too and has been getting good reviews. Did TFA or R1 have an competition for the family $ like that? Usually this time of year is for the stuffy Oscar movies.None of this explains the drop. The open with big.

but solo will put this to the test.
Im sure a sassy female wookie will be there to put han in his place
This link had a 1 hour and 30 minute review by Kevin Smith as a up next video. Wtf. Watched 1 minute and was done
Who would have thought that the kinetic energy of a large body at light speed was devastating?Hyperspace through the star destroyer was stunning, very well done.
Becauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse she juuuuuuuuuuust thooooought of it theeeeeeeeeen.Who would have thought that the kinetic energy of a large body at light speed was devastating?
Such a huge plot home, alongside a ton of others. Why not turn the sacrificial ships previously and do that?
Maybe it's a war crime to use tactics like that because of the mass destruction?Who would have thought that the kinetic energy of a large body at light speed was devastating?

We had that at our show. Actually 3 scenes they mentioned. We truly are becoming a nation of dullards...how did people now know the silence was on purpose?

Some people actually thought it was a sound glitch? Wow, some just don't understand film. No wonder there are so many complaints about the movie. We truly are becoming a nation of dullards...how did people now know the silence was on purpose?

There were a lot great cinematic achievements in that movie that I appreciated and I'll find even more the second time I watch it.![]()
Now that is a stretch.
That's fine, but let's not pretend that people who have problems with the movie don't understand film. I would also disagree with "a lot of great cinematic achievements", but that's what makes these threads great. There were a lot great cinematic achievements in that movie that I appreciated and I'll find even more the second time I watch it.
I was exaggerating some. I may have also used the wrong word with "achievements." There were some very cool things they did in the movie that I don't think we've ever seen in a Star Wars movie before and I appreciated it. I'm not sure if everyone picked up on those details. That's fine, but let's not pretend that people who have problems with the movie don't understand film. yes, women have made star wars so much better. How did we get along with out them? Just what I want in my action movies, some dizzy broads. I'm sure you have you Oceans 8 tickets already though! I'm sure they will take that franchise to the next level. There were a lot great cinematic achievements in that movie that I appreciated and I'll find even more the second time I watch it.

Sometimes movies are a solid B+. Not the end of the world. But if they put out a better product it could have been the biggest success of all time.![]()
Also, with climbing ticket prices gross $ doesn't mean as much as they make it out to be.
Seems to me a ship aimed at a Death Star at light speed would take it out, no?You know what I would love to see in a Star Wars movie?
The bad guys' mega weapon being destroyed by a deus ex machina mechanism attacking a fatal flaw. That'd be awesome!
Of course they are, just not this one.Sometimes movies are a solid B+. Not the end of the world.
This was a bold choice and a place they had to get to in some regard. I just don’t think they got there. They skipped steps and it will Be sink or swim to see if the new lot carries things. This is a blessing and burden. You can do the avengers forever, the costumes are the starsMatthias said:This movie will be remembered not for what actual plot happened in the movie (not much: a story of the rebellion going from a fleet to a tourist trip on the Falcon but planting seeds for a groundswell uprising), but for what plot options it set into motion in the future. This is the first movie to set the stage for a Star Wars universe without Skywalkers. Oh, Kylo is still hanging around. But Luke's gone. Leia's gone. Han is gone. Anakin gone. The big reveal for Rey was that she was the child of Anakin? Obi Wan? Luke? Nope. Nobody. Nobody at all. The kid stableboy? Nobody. But the Force is going through him. Which means the universe is now set to move beyond telling the story of Anakin, and go to more interesting and individual characters and plots.
I look askance at people who call them “films”. They’re movies. That's fine, but let's not pretend that people who have problems with the movie don't understand film. I would also disagree with "a lot of great cinematic achievements", but that's what makes these threads great.
You have no idea how many socks were ruined by Carrie Fisher going around bra less in ANH and in a gold bikini.yes, women have made star wars so much better.
I get what you are saying, but that still doesn't make the movie less dull. I also stick to my guns that it felt to me like they didn't hash this stuff out beforehand, but I guess that could still be determined after watching Ep 9. I guess I already assumed that the force was present in all sorts of people and races after looking at the variety of Jedi present in Eps 1-3. I think they could've gotten to this point where the focus is on the "nobodies" being strong with the force, without going back to the Skywalker well again. Lucas made a misstep introducing this magic in the blood mumbo jumbo, and I think they made a misstep having another person with Skywalker blood being part of this one. I am sure they could have found away to include the old characters and not have Kylo be their relative, and I think that would have been bolder from the start.Matthias said:This movie will be remembered not for what actual plot happened in the movie (not much: a story of the rebellion going from a fleet to a tourist trip on the Falcon but planting seeds for a groundswell uprising), but for what plot options it set into motion in the future. It will be interesting. Of those three, IMO it was more about Ford making that character so damn good. If the casting is not spot on for this movie, it will be DOA.This was a bold choice and a place they had to get to in some regard. I just don’t think they got there. Solo is an interesting test. Were hamill, ford and fisher the stars or Luke, Han and leia ?
