Star Wars The Last Jedi Episode 8 thread: this thread sucks, you should avoid it even after you've seen the movie (1 Viewer)

If there was any actual meat on that bone about the need for an acting coach, wouldn't you think another reporter or outlet would've picked up on it? But after months, it still comes back to the one story and an unnamed source. It comes back to this.

Either:

1) Disney gave the lead roll in a massive franchise to someone who can't act, risking potentially billions of dollars if there is no parts 2 and 3 because of the substandard acting

or

2) Someone is looking for click bait

Which do you think is more likely? Keep in mind, no other outlet has decided to chase that same click bait. You're looking for a fire, but there just isn't any smoke.
well we can in brief go back to what we KNOW:

1. Ron Howard was brought in take it over

2. The film promotional material was released at a date entirely unprecedented in the blockbuster era (post 1975)

3. The lead actor is probably the most minimally featured player in the trailer in the movie about him

So does that mean anything?  Not in an of itself, but not exactly the path to click bait you suggest.  What more is to be said until it comes out anyway which won't be long now.

this is what everybody, including yourself was referring to. This is what set everybody off into thinking the movie would bomb. Not the Hollywood reporter article about switching directors from last summer.

I’m done responding to you. You’re a one-note troll with nothing interesting to add.

:lmao:   yes, you are done, I posted an article from June and you posted one from December.  Maybe you missed this in the article with no other sourcing

Matters were coming to a head in May as the production moved from London to the Canary Islands. Lucasfilm replaced editor Chris Dickens (Macbeth) with Oscar-winner Pietro Scalia, a veteran of Ridley Scott films including Alien: Covenant and The Martian. And, not entirely satisfied with the performance that the directors were eliciting from Rules Don't Apply star Alden Ehrenreich, Lucasfilm decided to bring in an acting coach. (Hiring a coach is not unusual; hiring one that late in production is.) Lord and Miller suggested writer-director Maggie Kiley, who worked with them on 21 Jump Street.

When Kennedy felt that these measures did not get the production on track, she asked Kasdan to come to London. Kasdan is said also to have been unhappy with the limited shots and displeased that Lord and Miller were calling out lines for the actors to try from behind the monitor rather than sticking with the script that he had written in collaboration with his son. (Lord and Miller had input on the script before shooting began.) “As a writer, producer and part of Star Wars world, you get on a plane when that happens,” says a person with knowledge of the situation.

:lmao: come on guys, you have to seriously take your phantom menance glasses off now, its ok to come out into the light, admit this was the suck.  It sucked and you all know better but I understand getting excited in the theater, hey theres luke, ok he's doing nothing but LIGHT SABERS!  It was a disaster.
Isn't this from the same person who posted, in this thread, that he wasn't trying to get people to change their minds about the movie, just giving his opinion??

:hifive: to the fact of owning up..

I personally still enjoyed it the 2 times I viewed it in the theater and no amount of :pokey: from you will change my mind on buying it when it gets released on Blu-ray..

That and almost 100% of the time, when it is a perceived collective delusion by someone, that someone is the one that is indeed delusional.

It's like the old blond joke about a guy who sees on the news someone driving the wrong way in rush hour and realizes his wife takes that way home and calls her to warn her. When she answers he says, "Lookout, some guy is driving the wrong way on the highway." She responds, "One guy? Not one guy. There's hundreds, thousands going the wrong way!"

I don't know if Star Wars Rebels has it's own thread, but that show finished up last night and was a pretty satisfying ending.    While some of the episodes of the show were a bit worthless and some were a bit kid-ish..  for the most part I'd highly recommend the series and enjoyed it moreso than the new trilogy of movies.

It was pretty great. Is Ezra dead?

Allegedly he's "out there".. as is Thrawn.. presumably so they can use them in the future.

I was more uncomfortable with the idea that Asoka was out there alive the entire time from the battle of Yavin through Endor and completely didn't help..  I'd prefer if it they'd finished her off... but you know they're going for equality and getting more girls in the star wars universe..  so she'll probably come out of nowhere and battle with Rey to takedown Kylo Solo in ep 9

That’s not ever going to happen. Maybe 1 in 25 Star Wars movie fans watch Rebels? That’s probably being generous. They aren’t going to blast a character out there that nobody knows.

I don't want it to happen either... but general syndulla and chopper were in Rogue 1.

Asoka being out there as a really strong force user while poor Luke and old Ben and decrepit Yoda are squaring off against Vader and the Emperor and not helping though is a vomit inducing idea.

She should've been dead.... but.. marketing

I mean come on...they weren’t in it. He scooted by and her name was on the intercom in the background. That’s quite different than what you are talking about.

This is a good read:

Obi Wan movie material, IMO.....the end of Revenge they turned off the beacon that might have led Jedi back to Coruscant.....a stand alone Obi-Wan movie will undoubtedly deal with his quest to find other Jedi.

I think in the Obi Wan movie you just see him smoking a bong bored out of his ####### mind in Tatooine most of the time.   Occasionally he takes a break to roll into Mos Eisley and chop some dudes up.. and legless Maul pays him a visit that gets really hyped up only for the fight to last 15 seconds.

All I know is the last time we even came close to full penetration was Luke and the tauntaun. Hopefully this Solo movie changes that.

Somebody better warn Smack Tripper.

Just saw the last Jedi.  Wife fell asleep.

Two things really bothered me: 1) Leia floating in space.  I almost turned it off it was that stupid.  2) Yoda able to shoot lightning bolts in the temple.  Why in the hell doesn't he do that to kill smoak or kylo Ren and save the rebels?

Will the fact that Blu-ray is a dying medium change your mind?

I enjoyed TLJ both times I saw it in theaters too, just surprised that people are still buying Blu-ray.

I always buy the "DVD+Blu-Ray+Digital" packs.. Don't usually lug any digital devices up to the cabin in Canada where I go twice a year, where there is no internet service, and on stormy days when you can't get out on the water, it's nice to have new movies to throw in to watch up there.

Fair enough.  I will add "Doomsday prep" to my list of exceptions for purchasing dying media.

;)

I stopped buying blurays but understand why sound geeks still do.  Bluray is still the only way to get lossless audio.  However, once that goes digital, disks will be obsolete.

Because 4K disks are $30 and BR are $20

Also, most don't have the equipment to play 4K

why do you care what some one else does?

Discs will be around for at least the next 5-7 years and players will be around for probably 20 years or more.  Hell, you can still buy vcr players today if you want.
I don't. Having sold cassette tape collections, CD collections and DVD collections for pennies on the dollar over the years I figured the universe was trying to tell me something. I am merely curious as to the logic.

Hey,  if your TV is small - say,  less than 75" - I can see why the streaming option wouldn't bother you.

But the quality isn't comparable between steaming and even BluRay discs (forget 4k) at larger sizes.

Streaming is great for tv series and movies that are largely narrative driven.

There is no way way in hellllllllllll I am streaming a Star Wars movie. I’ll get my fat ### off the couch and throw a disc in until the day something better catches up.

Yeah, until we have much better broadband in this country, streaming won't match physical media for quality.

I watched Rogue One on Netflix, and the CGI was far less noticable...so there's that...

this is why I still buy specific movies/tv as well.

Streaming video and audio quality is not at the quality level of discs, at least right now, at least not on any sort of consistent basis.

It is going to be a long time before I give up my Star Wars, Game of Thrones, LOTR etc discs.

I don't even want to know what you nerds are still arguing about, but we watched it tonight and through most of the movie it was dead silent between my dumb wife and two dumb kids, and when it wasn't they were laughing or cheering.  They loved it, and I loved it in the theater.

Now continue arguing about running out of fuel and blue milk.

If your argument is that eventually all media will go away and be replaced by streaming well bravo.  You are truly a revolutionary mind.
Not my argument. 4k as a marketing tool may give them a bump, at least it will keep them alive awhile longer but as broadband access continues to increase it will strangle the Blu-ray market. Sales already appear to have peaked, though the data typically combines DVD and Blu-ray sales so it can be difficult to parse. I am not vested enough to do anything but a cursory search on the issue.

There may be a market for them on some level for decades to come, just like there is still a market for vinyl. But banking on Blu-ray going forward just seems like an odd choice.

If you are someone who absolutely must have 4k content (which is a different issue) and don't have broadband to support it then go nuts I guess. Otherwise better to have that garage sale sooner rather than later. No telling how much longer Porky's II: The Next Day, in 4k of course, will  continue to hold it's value.
