Star Wars The Last Jedi Episode 8 thread: this thread sucks, you should avoid it even after you've seen the movie (1 Viewer)

Rey and Kylo turn to the Light side while Luke has/had been turned into the Dark side. Snoke is the raw power Luke is talking about and Luke tried to kill Snoke. Snoke will redeem the Light side with Kylo and Rey while they hunt Luke down in the third film.

Doubt they give Mark Hamill that big of a role, being the final Big Bad. He can't handle that imo. Maybe I'm wrong there.

Although there were some rumblings, or perhaps interviews, about him not being happy with the storyline of this one. Luke going dark would probably fit into that

Opening night fan event with Cinemark on Thursday 12/14 at 6pm.  Half the seats (including the two I just bought) are gone at my local theater already.

Unfortunately the casting in the new movies are terrible. Lead female action character  :X . Main bad guy a whiney little teen  :X .

Just not my cup of tea. You are technically being sexist though. Why didn't you defend the whiney male teen remark?
I don't think you understand how that works. I didn't defend that character because I can see why people might feel that way about that character/actor.

Only, you didn't say you disliked him because he's male, the way that you said you disliked the lead being female. That's the sexist part. Let me know if you need any further help here.

Honestly, the trailer didn't make me want to see it.

I'll see it because I'm enough of a sci-fi nerd it's a movie I'll go to the theater to see. But nothing about the trailer got me excited for it. If anything it just reminded me of my disappointment that they have such a lame antagonist as Kylo Ren.

I took the raw power comment to be a reference to Kylo Ren. Luke trained him, saw the raw power, and didn't get in front of it to prevent Snoke from corrupting him. He sees similar raw power in Rey and doesn't want to make the same mistake again. He feels responsible for creating a powerful force that was easily corrupted. That's why he exiled himself. That's why he says no more Jedi. Too dangerous for the world to use in corruptible ways.

Sounds plausible.

Except that Kylo hasn’t really shown me any raw power, at least anything that would scare me. He just seems like a baby wannabe. Could Luke be referring to the emperor? Maybe Snoke if they want to contain the reference to this trilogy.  Like the theory just don’t believe it because of the character.

Would make sense. But then the part where Rey tells kilo she wants to know where she fits in all of this... ?

Had heard this episode was about Luke, then the final one about Leia. Han dies in 7, Luke dies in 8, Leia goes in 9 and the transition to the next generation is complete. With Fisher passing away though that could be out the window and could change with a few edits.

I'm just hoping this isn't completely derivative of Empire Strikes Back in the way Force Awakens was of A New Hope. Seeing someone extremely strong in the force going to a remote place to train with the last surviving Jedi who has been in self exile for decades doesn't exactly make me optimistic.

If they don't show Rey training we'll have the SW nerds explaining how unrealistic her use of the force is.

I'm glad I'm enough of a fan to not be jaded by everything but not so big a fanboy that I nitpick every ####### thing - movie looks awesome to me and I'm sure my boys will love it.

The advantage of being a casual fan.

He stoped a phaser blast mid-stream. Seems powerful to me.

Can't wait to see how they market Chewie's cute new little sidekick
they have been marketing them to kids via youtube somehow for awhile now... my 10 year old daughter has loved them for what seems like months.
