Starks - Time to Drop? (1 Viewer)

Starks started week 12 but gave way to Alex Green almost immediately. Green saw most of the action until garbage time in the 4th quarter. Given the poor play of the offensive line and the return of Jennings, which may lead to more spread formation/empty backfield formations.

However, it sounds like Benson may not return this season. McCarthy says he's not going to start practicing this week and that he'll give more info later in the week.

So, if Benson is done, does Starks still have any value?

I finally dropped Starks myself (thik the coach is stuck on stupid w/ A. Green) I really dont think you will find many Starks supporters at this point in time... My choice was based on players for next Season (more or less) imo you should ride it out, unless you see a Bryce Brown type deal in the making's..

Stunned we're even seeing GB RB questions with Benson out & bye weeks gone.

Between Starks/Green -- 1 career regular season TD. Kuhn's getting the TD's here.

Not only the worst fantasy RB situation in the league, you'd be better off grabbing the backup RB's in half the NFL rather than either of these 2.

It's a straight committee at least for now. I think Green has mild RB4 upside in PPR formats. I don't see any upside with Starks. Even if he handles the majority of rushing attempts the Packers don't trust him in pass protection so he isn't likely to catch many passes. Neither stands a good chance to score. Rodgers remains Green Bay's goal-line vulture.

McCarthy has made an abrupt change without warning once before so anything's possible here. But even if one RB was dominating the touches (as Green did for a few games after Benson got hurt) I don't think he would be anything more than a decent RB3. The offensive line is horrible at run blocking and neither Green nor Starks have shown a dynamic quality. Based on the Giants' game the approach would seem to be Starks on early downs with Green and Kuhn sharing third-down reps.

Benson's the wild card. McCarthy said Tuesday they weren't expecting him to practice this week but they would have more info about him today.

I hear what you guys are saying! I almost totally agree too But IF Devil has held on to him, I dont see much wrong w taking a chance on bad weather (ie. wk's 13 14, 16)

In other words (if guys like K. Moreno are rostered) why take the chance that Starks explodes wk. 13 or 14, and/or becomes must start for wk 16.

In hindsight, I thinnk dropping post wk. 13 is better idea. I mean even if Starks has a good game wk. 14, I doubt anyone would believe/expect the same type of performance in such important games (play-offs)

I think Starks and Green are worth holding onto if you have the roster room to spare. If one gets hurt the other will see 20+ touches in all probability, assuming Benson doesn't return. But I don't think either one are worth starting at this point in all but the largest of leagues.

I agree with this. At this point in the season I can't imagine a team that is making the playoffs. We have seen what Starks can do with a full load and it isn't much. So it is not like you are holding on to him as a lottery ticket. Once I locked up a playoff spot I dropped all of my RB and WR #4+. I picked up a couple RB lottery tickets (Wilson) and some defenses with good matchups in the playoffs. Those are roster slots that I may actually use. There is no way I would ever use Starks in a playoff game.

Starks is a mediocre RB in a bad situation. I played the Green/Starks game for a couple weeks but dropped both of them and am not looking back. They're not even good lottery tickets since even with 20 carries they've done nothing.

Green was a low-end RB3 in PPR leagues when he was getting the volume so he had some value. Not a lot but some. Starks doesn't have any that I can see unless Green gets hurt and Benson doesn't come back. Even then I'm not sure he could be more than a so-so RB3. The Packers need to go RB hunting in the offseason.

I'm actually holding Starks for now because:

[*]3 of GB's next 4 games are favorable to the run. And if you're in a league that plays in week 17, you'll also have a favorable match up.

[*]News on Benson's return is pretty pessimistic.

Here's the GB running game SOS: http://www.fftoday.com/stats/fantasystats.php?o=3&PosID=20&Data=Last5&Show1=13&Show2=17&LeagueID=1

Of course, Starks having not shown a whole lot and being in a committee with Green are big drawbacks but my WW is bare in the league I'm in so for now I figured why not.

Seems like they could do some o-line hunting, too. Those backs are getting hit before the line of scrimmage a LOT.

True. For a good team they have holes everywhere. Both lines, secondary, RB, TE probably too if Finley is gone (which hopefully he will be).
