Starting guys just because they're playing in prime time (1 Viewer)

From a logical fantasy standpoint, this is probably suiceide, but I do this quite a bit.

Obviously, I wouldn't start Cedric Wilson over Torry Holt just because he plays tonight, but on close calls, I always tend to lean towards the guy who's playing in the prime time game.

It makes it so much more interesting watching the game.

In other words, if I were torn between Willie Parker and Thomas Jones this week, I would start Parker, because I could watch him tonight.

Does anyone else ever do this?

I sometimes have the urge to start someone on the monday night game, but in your case, i would be more comfortable starting TJ over FWP....with Big Ben out there may not be much room for FWP to run. TJ should have a potential field day on GB.

I take it into consideration when I have to make a tough decision. For example, I could go with Brooks over Vick or I could go with Chester over DeShaun. But until Brooks and Chester show me something, they will be on my bench.

Occasionally...but usually for a different reason. Some players seem to play well in the "spotlight". As such I do try to start players if they/their team typically does well in nationally televised games.

I tend to lean toward the Prime Time players too.

IMO Players, who can bring it up a notch, do play to a higher level because they know all of their peers are watching them (seems like extra motivation).

I play in a few leagues. One of them is a draft league with most of the same owners as in my favorite contract-keeper league. The draft league is sort of an afterthought for me, and I usually use it to gamble on lots of players who I think will be fun to watch even if they don't win. In that league, I try to start players who play in games that I will be able to watch. In other leagues, unless tehre is a 'spotlight' type player who plays well in big games, it doesn't come into my calculations.

The only time primetime games ever sways me one way or the other, is if I've got two guys playing the same position, have them ranked equally for ability & opportunity and don't see any real advantage for the D's they'll be facing.

For example;

This week as my #4 WR, I've got Troy Williamson or Matt Jones to choose from.

I've got 'em ranked pretty equal. Jones faces the Cowboys D, while Williams has the Skins D. I guess with Springs out at CB for the Skins, you could say Williams faces the easier D, but the primetime factor has come into play for me here. I'm going with Williams over Jones, because he's got the Mon Nighter.

I won a league championship many years ago when SF defense scored a zillion points for me on a Monday Night game in our FF Superbowl.

It was a sweet win at the buzzer and back in the pre Sunday Ticket days, it was cool to get to see it.

So yeah, I understand why folks do this.

All things being equal, I avoid players going on Thursday nights and try to play them if they play on Monday. Not sure why but I always have better luck if my guys play in the later games.

Okay, I'm neurotic on this one. If I'm looking for a tiebreaker, I may play the one NOT in primetime (exc Sun Night)

If it's a Thursday game and your player doesn;t do well, you've got to wait three days for possible salvation. If it is Mon Night, you have your whole game hanging on one player. I know, I know...

Sorry. ;) If it helps, I have three possible plays tonight; sitting two and playing one, but no decision made based on the game night; tiebreakers only, as I said.

I sometimes lean this way, as well. You just hate risking a guy on a Thursday, in case he bombs for you.

It ruins the next three days, as you wait for Sunday knowing you're already in a hole.

Oh, I was just ribbing ya.For what it's worth, (totally honest) Paul Charchian from Fanball.com just emailed me back regarding this question.....His reply was "I'd start Parker over McGahee every week regardless of the situation."

I'm starting Culpepper against the vaunted Stillers DEF, just because he's playing tonight :banned:
It makes the beer and wings taste better, don't it? ;)
I will do this all day long for kickers and D. If they are on primetime there's a really good chance I start them. The rest of the positions I have to think about it...And it's factored into my decision. Sometimes we need to remember that FFB is a game and nothing more. Addicting but a game none the less...

I make an effort each year to make sure I draft a few west coast guys. That way I can usually have a stake in the boring 4:15 (ET) games.

I want to start Culpepper over Warner so I can having something to cheer for tonight. But the smart play is Warner.

[Oh, I was just ribbing ya.

I know. BTW, the one I am playing IS Parker. :P
So, would ya play Parker over McGahee vs. NE??
I really think, without a reg. season game to go on, it is very close. So this actually is one of those tie breaker situations. (I get to start them both i-- diff leagues). So, since you are not neurotic like me, and would like to watch one of your players, I'd go for it.

Similar logic for me, except add the twist of an injury. It's Hines Ward vs. Matt Jones. Normally, while I hesitate to bench Jones, Ward is automatic. So this is more injury + prime time + consistent vs. a potential big game with a lot of risk. :wall: I decided to go with Ward because he is a stud, and will step it up.

Otherwise, I like watching my team, so it's a good tie breaker.

You will be sorry you made that choice. Matt Jones is going to be money this year and it all starts Week1, even with a tough matchup I can see Matt Jones at least pulling in a short jump ball TD.

I like playing guys in Primetime too.

I like starting guys on MN especially because if I go into the game down, I still have a chance to win and if I am already up, then it is salt in the wound and I get to trash talk my opponent about it all day on Monday and at the bar on MN while watching the game. For example, everytime my guy gets a point, I grab to salt shaker and start shakin'

Thanks man...guess I'll go for it......I feel it's a tossup as well...just leery since Ward is hurt and Ben is out.

I agree with you on Matt Jones being money this year. That's why I drafted him. But I think the same about Troy Williamson.

I always need to have someone in the first game of the season, this year it's going to be hard. Kennison vs C Wilson/ S Holmes.
