Starting QB in Miami week 1? (1 Viewer)

I think Beck has a chance to actually start week 1 in this mess.

Beck is an older rookie (26) and is said to already have the poise and maturity needed to succeed as a QB in the NFL.

Miami is not going to win any SB's signing T. Green and making him their starter. Green would be a band aid player in Miami if he came over.

Beck is their QB of the future and their best chance of moving forward to earn a super bowl down the road.

Now, I know it is never a good thing to throw a rookie qb into the fire, but because Beck is not a young rookie does this give him a chance of starting right out of the gate?

Would it be dumb to start Beck in week 1 and if not week 1 how long before Beck is starting Miami?

Not all situations in regards to starting rookie QB's are created equal. Most of the time, I think it's a pretty poor idea. But in Beck's case it might be good to get his learning curve started. Especially if they feel they don't have a better 2-3 year option with Green/Culpepper.

In a pre-draft interview, Beck said that ideally he would like to sit out his first year and learn from a veteran QB. Maybe he said this because he believed at the time that the Carolina Panthers were going to draft him? Carolina, of course, signed Carr shortly before the draft.

Trent Green will be starter Week 1. However, it will become painfully clear rather early on that he will never be the same after his head injury. As I've said before, I really don't see C-Pepp ever being a starter again so I expect Beck to take over around Week 6-8.

Cleo Lemon
He's quietly flying underneath the radar at the moment. Although while I feel Cleo will be playing week 1 and starting week 2, Green or Culpepper will start and get injured in the first game.
I think he's quietly flying out of the NFL, but it should take about 2 or 3 years for Lemon to reach his destination.

Green was fairly good to end the season, he only attempted more than 30 passes 2 times when he returned. He had 4 TDs against Cleveland 1 TD in 5 of his last 6 games. He threw picks as well, but I wouldn't judge him off running a Herm Edwards led team.

I already posted something like this on the other Green vs. Culpepper thread, but since that one looks to be disappearing in favor of this one...I think Green is done. He had one great game against a miserable Cleveland D to end last year -- otherwise, he was good for 180/1/2 each week. To blame that on Edwards doesn't seem right, given that Huard went for 12 TDs and just 1 INT while Green was gone. Either Huard is the most amazing QB any of us have ever seen, or Herm isn't quite the QB killer folks here want to make him.

I think Culpepper is done. At his weight, I can't see him ever being the running threat he was on re-built knees. Without Moss, without the threat to run...I don't see good things ahead for Culpepper.

One or the other probably starts the year -- respecting the elder sort of thing. But if I'm running things (and I'm not, but it'd be fun), if Beck shows ANYTHING in the pre-season, I make him the game 1 starter, and take my lumps with any growing pains. Better that than taking the lumps with little to no gain...

should be an interesting summer for Miami. this QB competition will be something to watch closely. NOT the kind of thing you want to see, if you're a Ronnie Brown owner..you'd rather have you starting QB already in place, when camp opens.as for Beck, if he starts this year, he'll see 9 man fronts , and opposing defenses will stop Ronnie Brown dead in his tracks.I think things get worse in Miami, before they get better. Trent Green might be a band-aid, but he's a proven starter, not some guy like Beck who lacks experience. Maybe if they didn't dump all that $$ on Duante Culpepper, they wouldn't be so gun shy in trying to sign Green or anyone else, for that matter..they seem like they're once bitten, twice shy in that regard..

From Rotoworld:

Dolphins re-signed QB Cleo Lemon to a one-year, $1.3 million contract. The sides had been working on a multi-year deal and still could reach one before or during the season. Lemon has lined up as Miami's first-team quarterback at early workouts but probably won't keep the job with a Trent Green trade expected to happen before training camp. More likely, Lemon will be viewed as a backup for rookie John Beck in 2008 and possibly beyond. May. 29 - 5:35 pm et

 Yeah, Damon Huard really was an INT machine in that "Herm Edwards led team".Green's done.

Does anyone believe Culpepper will start again? Is he worth keeping anymore in dynasty?
I find it unlikely that he will start in Miami. Cameron doesn't seem to keen on him. Whether he will start somewhere else, who knows. If you have good depth you might try to trade him if you can find someone who is willing to take the chance.

I think it could be C-Pep... his rehad is going well and that could be one of the reason Mia is falling to KC's demands
Actually I think it has more to do with the fact that Green will probably be released and all Miami has to do is offer a contract. From what I heard Culpepper does not run a disciplined offense like Cameron likes and Green does. Many think Culpepper is history.
