Trip to the championship will come down to this. Murray was given credit for the full 15 yards even though holding was called on the play. I always thought that holding brought the play back. But in this instance it seems that Murray was given the 15 yards and then the Cowboys were penalized 10 yards for the holding. What I'm I missing here?

I believe he does get the full 15 yards in this case. if holding happens downfield they back up 10 from spot. in this case, I think he actually gained more than 15 on the play but Dez held 15 yards downfield so he gets 15 yards in the stat book. This has happened many times to my players all season and they have never been stat corrected

the hold took place downfield on a pretty decent sized run. I think Murray gets credit for the yardage gained up until the hold--which was a ways downfield.

I believe since it occurred downfield it's a spot foul thus he gets the yardage up to the point of the hold.
