State Of The Board - 2018 (1 Viewer)

Love you too babe.

I almost forgot about my personal stalker, FDAS. Keep on keepin on GB, You complete me.

I have no idea if I'd be the slightest bit interested in this sort of forum or even read it, but it sounds like a far better idea than asking a community of adults who have been together for 20-odd years (I've been here/Old Yeller for about 16 or 17 I think) to suddenly conform their discourse to some ill-defined, apparently kid-friendly standard.  I suspect, as I've noted before, that something is happening behind the scenes to motivate these changes.  Perhaps FanDuel demanded them, which if so, is ironic in the extreme.  We're clearly not going to find out and nothing is going to change, but it's remarkable how many posters are coming up with far better ideas to fix a problem that most didn't know existed in the first place.
Sorry. Absolutely nothing going on behind the scenes. Eliminating the Who's Hottest is something I'd looked at doing for a long time. And something lots of people here have told me they were glad we did and should have done sooner. I know conspiracy theories are fun. And sometimes there is something. Not in this case.

Lots?

Really?

Why?

I think you're circling an interesting dilemma here.  This isnt to whine at all,  but I do think it is too heavy handed.  I voted as such when you made a poll.  Getting suspended for calling Trump a moron or the things in your posts seems pretty crazy to me. It is your board and your choice, of course.   You've created a great place in spite of these disagreements.

However, having standards different than what most wants means that you are going to have to be hands on to enforce this line consistently and often.  Or find others who will for you.  It will be interesting to see how you deal with that cost.  The volunteer mod idea for the PSF is intriguing.  I do think SaintsinDome and Tim most closely resemble your ideal posting style there.  We all need to try and follow their examples it seems.

Just thinking out loud after reading some of your replies to others where I feel that dilemma.
Thanks @Slapdash   I do think you're seeing what I see as the trouble. It's easy to say "just suspend the people who can't get in line". But that has pretty ugly consequences. There are people who'll PM still upset about a suspension a year ago. Or longer. They almost always remember it a much longer suspension and they almost always claim they did nothing wrong at all. The facts rarely match up but that doesn't matter. That's how they remember it and that's what they shout on the boards. So the bottom line is suspension are something to be very careful with.

You don't owe us an explanation. The internet is full of trolls and complainers. Regulate as you see fit. You might lose some delinquents, but the majority of us will roll with the changes and abide by whatever the new normal is.

Thank you @EYLive  I do though feel like I owe it to the board to communicate. I think we've done ok with that on this. Thanks for being part of the boards.

What about yoga pants and over 50?  You never mention those when you justify the new direction. The backlash is not just about who’s hottest. You got rid of a bunch of other threads that really were not objectifying of women at all.

Cool

My $.02. Each of us would probably draw the line in the sand slightly differently than Joe has throughout the years. And yet Joe’s lines have resulted in a place where folks are civil to one another and ideas are exchanged. His model is proven at this point and deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Keep driving the bus Joe.  Happy to be along for the ride.

How does a thread of a public picture ONE woman posted voluntarily objectify all women anyway?

I mean the Yoga pants thread was a bunch of women who were proud of their bodies showing them off?  Why is that a bad thing? It's healthy to be proud of your body.

I realize me posting on the boards is sort of like the goofy high school history teacher trying to talk to the cool kids in the lunch room.
Is this real?  Got to be schtick.

No shtick. I'm aware I'm way out of place at the cool kids table here. And that's ok.
Joe, you're not out of place here.  No one is... I didn't realize there were cliques around here and I've been here for 15 years.  Oh wow.. I've been here for 15 years...   :bag:   well, not every day..  oh well..  I like it here.  Gives a nice distraction to the day, especially in the NFL off season.

The yoga thread was a very complimentary thread.  Basically reposting pictures that the women posted of themselves.  As far as "lots" of people wanted them gone I find that hard to believe but I guess 10% would be lots.

I've had several talks with Joe and even suggested others here would understand if Joe killed the hottest threads but reconsidered and brought back the over50 and yoga and generally ease off of allowing guys to have mature discussions but it just seems Joe wants this board G rated and yoga pants and over 50 dont feel right to him despite how benign it is to the majority of the board.

This place has had a language filter since day one and people are surprised the yoga pants thread is now gone?

I personally don't care about losing who is hottest threads or yoga pants threads, I'm an adult, it is pretty easy for me to find that kind of stuff on the innerwebs.

To me it was more in the way it was lost. You have a bunch of threads, some which have been running for years, to all of the sudden be whacked bc of a change of opinion. We hear about a community here, but those kind of actions don't make it feel like that to me.

Feels like this board continues to gradually shrink, and for the most part, those that are lost are typically good posters who I enjoy reading. A troll or bad poster will just come back under a new alias, but a solid poster typically just disappears. I don't have access to the numbers, but I don't think the FFA has added one new quality poster (or really any "new" poster) in years. I don't see the rapid/sudden/frequent changes in moderation changing that and think the slow gradual shrinking process will continue, not reverse.

Just my .02.

TBH - Why I miss the Yoga thread and and women over 50 and disagree - I can at least partially understand the Who's Hottest...

The problem I see now is even when talking about say a movie or tv show now - if I say man that actress is hot.  I feel like you think thats over the line.

I'm sorry but that is just natural

I honestly don't want to comment anymore

I think I would go so far to say the yoga pants really actually was a driver to women working on booty gains.  Kayla Itsines was a just a mom, now has a multi million dollar empire selling pictures of her bum and telling everyone who will listen how to get to that point.  Of the beginning of that thread a good chunk of these were simply pics tweeted back to her or tagged with her program name.

There have been positive downstream effects, now you frequently see women squatting and thrusting their way to a good backside.  It's no different than a runner showing a finish line picture, but these are vaguely sexual so I guess that's a no-no.

I mean 10 years ago women thought "If I lift I'll get bulky", now they see if they lift they get hot.  But by all means let's bury the evidence.

This started as essentially a gambling site and it's more so now than ever.  The whole not linking to hot chicks pictures seems really really hypocritical to me.  I get that it's your bored and you make the rules yada yada, but in reality it is hard to find places where you'll can find links to non-nudes and make cracks about them in a community you feel a part of and one in which those kind of male shenanigans are but a small part of the overall experience.  This place used to be really like talking to your buddies, sports, chicks, gambling, nonsense, but the utter commitment to basically G rated material is too much imho.

Yup, some of the funniest posters (guys like McGarnicle, Binky, Tanner, etc) either don't post as much by choice or simply can't because they've been banned.

I don't get "rating" women. Either I think a chick is attractive or I don't. Why do I care what other guys rate her by comparison?

Rating crosses an "objectifying" line IMHO.

Yoga pants on the other hand....not sure about that axe. And I have two daughters.

News flash.....women like looking good for men and being admired by them....just like men do for women. And that is different than "rating".

No great loss, lots of places online to enjoy pictures of the fairer sex.

Yeah lib**** is way worse than Drumpf.  I think Drumpf is on par with something like Crapernick.
One of these is a spin off of making fun of a physical disability that inflicts many people and their children.  The other is just a political shtick word.  Not even in the same universe.

The one major issue I had with axing threads like those is they're primarily about selfies that these women took of themselves and posted on the internet, specifically with the goal of being objectified.  Most of the women in those threads are instagram models.  I get the idea that we don't want to disrespect or objectify women who do not want that kind of attention, but lord, if people like Kate Upton and all these instagram models aren't just begging for this kind of attention, I don't know who is.  Those threads were purely about appreciating physical specimens that openly sought such appreciation.

That's a different thing from when someone posts a picture of a bunch of college freshman he pulled off someone's facebook account.

Its funny. I can tell my own wife an actress is hot (and she can tell me an actor is hot) without any fear of retribution but I cant say it on a message board dedicated to sports gambling.
