****Steak, Steakhouse, Side Dish Thread**** (1 Viewer)

Medium rare and medium are acceptable temps. Nothing above. Less than medium rare, I wouldn't order it that way but have eaten rare-ish steaks before.
This is BLT Steaks definitions, I'm actually curious to taste blue, but I could never order that:

Steak TempsBlue: Very Red, Cold Center

Rare: Red, Cool Center

Medium Rare: Red, Warm Center

Medium: Pink, Hot Center

Medium Well: Dull Pink Center

Well Done: Dull Gray
Commonly I think most people consider that definition of Medium to be Medium Rare and the definition of Medium Rare to be Rare.
Some of the 'doneness' of the beef can be related to the cut of the meat. I like my steaks 'under-done' my term for as rare as possible; but a prime rib can be done a little more and it is OK.

Mashed and Haricot Verts. Or if a salad counts as a side, I'd go with a salad.

Truffled Mashed sounds good but, like, Lobster Mashed, I think it's likely that it would be too rich. Truffled Fries on the other hand are awesome.

If I could have only one combo, it's mashed and creamed spinach, even though mashed is definitely not my preferred potato dish on it's own.. That's because, when it comes down to combining everything into one bite, it's pretty much perfection to take a piece of med rare steak, smear some mashed potato on it, and then layer on a bit of creamed spinach. You can't really pull that off with other options.

No Hashbrowns?
No kidding. That is why I go to Denny's to get real steak.
Denny's huh? You got a raise at work I seeYou've never had hashbrowns at a steakhouse? Murray's and Manny's have great hashbrowns
Strip House has a dish called Goose Fat Potatoes, basically a delicious take on hash browns.. Dish is delicious, here is a pic:http://www.urbanspoon.com/rph/144/920387/1055937/florida-keys-strip-house-goose-fat-potatoes-yum-photo
Fingerling potatoes cooked in goose or duck fat. So very good...
If you don't know what hashbrowns are in this context, there is no other answer than you are either not a real man and/or a complete idiot.

HOWEVER, there's good news - that can easily be changed. Go to Palm Steadhouse, they have them all over. I believe Mortons (which sucks cause its not dry aged, but good sides) has it too. Peter Lugers can sometimes get a little dry, but still really good with a little Luger sauce mixed in.
Isn't their signature potato dish the German Potatoes, more like home fries, no?
Yes and no.

I've noticed that different regions use hashbrown and home fries differently. As I know them, hashbrowns are either julienne potatoes (ala Denny's) or a pancake of, like mcds. Home fries are sliced and sometimes chunked / cubed potatoes with onions and possible some peppers.

I've to places that called hashbrown a homefries. I believe the Palm calls their potatoes hashbrown although they are similar to (and usually better than) Lugers

A baked potato once opened is by far (BY FAR) the best option to soak up all the juices from the meat, so it's really the only play here.

It doesn't really matter what kind of veggie they give me as I am only going to feign interest and occasionally pick at it before going back to the meat and potato.

My girl and I would both split the truffled mash and asparagus.

Two bone-in Filets MEDIUM RARE you savages.

The local place where I eat steaks offers a huge (bigger than your fist) sweet potato with cinnamon butter and brown sugar. It's the only time I will eat a sweet potato. Screw any other sides. Delish.

Not sure if I'd like them with steaks, but sweet potatoes (on their own) are extremely underrated. There's plenty of natural sweetness to them without those extras, IMO.

Nobody eating a freaking filet gets to play steak snob.

Men don't eat filets :hot:

Get a bone in NY Strip or a Ribeye
Filet is a total chick steak. Might as well order hashbrowns with it while you're at it.
Strictly a chick steak... :hifive:

It's a chick steak for those who don't know steak well enough to recognize the different between a ##### as round filet and a huge wad of very tended meat with the flavoring of the bone.

And if you don't know what real statehouse hashbrowns are (aka dinner home fries or German potatoes) then it's hard to listen to much else from you on the subject of steakhouses.

Definitely truffled mashed potatoes. I love when the steak juice bleeds into mashed potatoes and I love truffled mashed potatoes.

2nd option would probably be asparagus - I'm assuming here it's a nice steak place so the asparagus will be cooked well.

A place I go to makes an awesome garlic slaw. Holy crap its good but it stays with you long after the glow of the steak has subsided.

No need to get so defensive  I kinda know what I;m talking about when it comes to Steakhouses.
