Seems to me that not offering Wallace $11MM is the definition of foresight.

He stunk thru camp, he can't separate in one on one coverage for the entire 1st half, he drops a beautifully throw 12 yard out pattern in the 2nd half because his mind is not concentrating because he's internally pouting about not getting enough targets.

How dare he cry about targets when the Phins win the game by 2 Touchdowns. Screw Wallace and I hope he is a $60M decoy, I will openly boo this ******* every chance I get at the games. If he had half the heart of a Brian Hartline he could be an All American...sorry I started thinking about Rudy, 20th Anniversary.

But back to Wallace, I can't think of a Dolphin I hate more right now. Maybe LT-Johnnie Martin, it's close.

I like this post. Wallace came across looking like a diva. He later said he was more mad at himself than his involvement in the offense although it was clear to all that was not true.

Wallace will have some big games this year and will make some big plays. His speed is all world and he offers something that you can't just run out and find anywhere.

He has some maturing to do and hopefully that happens, which is weird as he is not a young player anymore at 27 years of age.

I bank on him getting at least 10 targets this week, and him being more happy for the time being. I do however believe and have mentioned in the Hartline thread the plug and play guy will end up being Hartline in this offense. Dude is underrated.

Quite a call. How many will he get this week? I was worried after week 1, but I'm back to believing he can be top 10 once again. He was inches away from a 2 TD game. With the ground game looking so bad, I think there will be plenty of passes in Miami this year. 31.4/game last year. 36/ game so far.

9 catches, a career high from what I read and the Dolphins are 2-0. So Mike could have had 8MM a year on a crappy team, but instead the market decided he is worth 11MM a year on an up-and-coming team.

How about they both made the right decision? Wallace is most likely getting at least $37M over 3 years and at worst $27M over 2.

The last I checked the Steelers are 4-6 and are still broke. This thread is not about Mike Wallace. It is about the Steelers dumb a-s fan base and pompous front office. The Steelers tried to screw Mike Wallace, he had none of it, and now your team has a losing record. Losing record and the WR corps is the least of their problems. Brown is doing more with the X role than Wallace did. He's a better player at a lower price. There is no longer ANY doubt that they made the right call here.

Steelers issues have been injuries, and lackluster play on the OL and on defense. If they were paying Wallace 12M per, they would have less options to rectify these issues.

You can say the Steelers suck all you want (although they're 4-2 in their last 6 and only 1 game out of the second wildcard with a tiebreaker in hand,) but the thread title isn't "The Steelers suck." You whiffed on this one. It's better to just admit it than to continue to go down with the ship. Find other reasons to hate them.

 
Why on earth are we bumping this troll thread? We all knew at the time the Steelers made the right call. Wallace made the right call too financially although I doubt he is having much fun playing with Tannehill as his QB.

Wallace : 44-534-1

Brown : 74-952-5

Brown extrapolated to 16 games : 118-1523-8, far better #s than Wallace ever posted as the X in this system, even with Arians airing it out.

However, the opportunity is extremely one sided with Brown right now vs Wallace and his time with Pitt. If you look at the stats you can argue that Wallace's time with Pitt he did more with less than what Brown is doing now.

Pitt at this stage is a bad football team. Their defence is awful and they are playing from behind a lot or forced into playing shoot out type of games. Take Big Ben for instance. His career high for pass attempts in a season is 513. This year he is on pace to throw for 612 attempts.

Wallace 2 years ago had a season for the ages. He had 60 catches for 1257 yards and 10 td's on only 99 targets. This year Brown already has 106 targets and is on pace for 170 targets. Wallace topped out in pit last year with 119 targets where he managed 72 catches for 1193 yards with 8 td's. Now you can argue that Brown is getting an increase in targets due to being a better all around WR, which could be true, but if you give Wallace the same opportunity that Brown is getting right now with Pitt he could be very well out producing Brown. Remember Big Ben is on pace to throw his career high in attempts by 100.

My guess is both guys are solid NFL wr's, and it appears Pitt made the right move, but Pitt is not a very good team right now anyway you look at it.

Yes I have seen him play and his play has not been good at all. It is a completely different situation, offence, and opportunity. This has lead me to believe that as I stated in my first line that Brown at this stage seems like a better all around WR. However, that is very much guess work as we have not seen Brown in a situation like Wallace outside of Pitt.

 
I won't make tons of excuses for Wallace, but Tannehill missed him on what could have been an 80+ yard TD last week, and in the OT loss, only the DB intentionally interfering with him prevented him from catching a long bomb for the winning score in OT. Wallace's limitations are obvious, but as pedestrian as his numbers are, they aren't helped by the doofus play-calling in Miami or the inconsistent QB he has to play with.

But we had seen Wallace's play deteriorate in the second half of 2011 and all of 2012 while he was with the Steelers. Wallace admitted to not giving 100% and quitting on plays. Obviously his play has not improved with the Dolphins.

I think it is safe to say the Steelers made the right move by not giving Wallace the contract he was looking for and Wallace certainly did well for himself financially by parting ways with the Steelers.

The only losers are the Dolphins for overpaying Wallace and TT for starting this ridiculous thread.

 
Leaving out all of the Wallace will never play on a tag in 2012 and if they do tag him someone is sure to snipe him nonsense TT has made 3 points consistently:

1. Wallace is a top 10 NFL receiver

2. Wallace will get paid top 10 money

3. The Steelers will be worse because they can't afford to pay Wallace that top 10 money

SO:

1. Clearly wrong

2. Clearly right

3. Debatable. The Steelers are certainly worse than in recent memory this season, but I don't see losing Wallace being any part of that. Personally, I'm glad they let someone else invest that type of money in him.

TTD hasn't had much of a handle on the Wallace situation or how NFL contracts actually work, but he's made some salient points about the Steelers cap and how it limits optimism for the short term future.

This thread is about how poorly managed the Steelers organization is, not Mike Wallace. Mike Wallace was a symptom of the lack of forecasting by management and their cap. Antonio Brown has a big day? Great! I don't care, this thread has nothing to do with him. Mike Wallace is sucking in Miami? Whatever. I do not own him in my only dynasty league.

  • Todd Haley sucks as a person.
  • Big Ben dislikes Todd Haley.
  • The Steelers suck, just as I predicted LAST YEAR.
  • The Bengals are really good, just as I predicted LAST YEAR.
  • The Steelers remain broke with long term cap issues.
  • The Steelers have a losing record at 4-6.

So, what is Wallace's value? You seem to agree he's not worth Fitz money, so maybe VJax money? You said earlier the Steelers were $3 million short of signing him, so that sounds like the ballpark you're thinking about. I think it's safe to assume the Steelers were willing to pay him a little more than they gave Brown--let's say 5 years, $46.75 million. Instead, he'll apparently play this year for 2.75. Assuming they don't franchise him (and assuming nothing happens to damage his value), next year he can sign a deal for VJax money--at $11 million/yr. he gets $44 million over the next four years. That means he makes the same amount he'd have gotten from the Steelers, except he's lost the interest he'd have made from the extra money he'd have made this year. Seems to me Wallace is on that loser list unless he gets more than VJax money. As for the Steeler record? Sounds like the same song we heard when they refused to overpay for Plax or to put up with Santonio's shenanigans. I think life will go on.

Vjax is overpaid. Somewhere between 9.5-11 MM a year range for Wallace.

Just as a refresher, here are my thoughts (July 27, 2012) on what would happen to Mike Wallace's production on any other team. I also complimented both Antonio Brown and Big Ben.

Don't confuse my posts. This is about d bag Steelers fans attacking any non-mainstream thought process on the Steelers organization. You guys are a virus on this board.
