it has been reported that davenport has been released after Pittsburgh failed to find any trades for him.

who do you think will sign him?

Interesting. If true, that is one potential draw on touches gone. Will Moore have a role, or will it just be a Parker-Mendenhall split?

I could see Moore getting some early looks as the third down guy while Rashard gets the blocking assignments down. Everything the Steelers OC/coaching staff says make it sound like they believe Mendenhall is an everydown back though.

I think they're viewing Moore as more(no pun intended) of a help in the return department going forward in '08. '09 and beyond? No idea. When does Parker's contract run out? After '09? Could wind up being a Mendenhall/Moore backfield at some point.

Don't forget about Gary Russell. This move is outstanding for Russell' prospects. He now has a future with this club for sure - so long as he continues to play/practice hard and effectively. As far as Moore goes, he always had a role as a possible receiving type back (and return man), something the team wanted from him. Mendenhall will have to prove in camp he can do all thats required in the pass situations to keep Moore on the sideline more-often-then-not. Parker and Russell are not considered very good pass options.

Don't forget about Russell Davis. This move is outstanding for Davis' prospects. I think you mean Carey Davis or Gary Russell. Russell is the one I have been watching. Davis seems to be the long term option at FB as Krieder is gone.

Gary Russell, thanks. Corrected.

Not a surprise at all. The Steelers are loaded at RB, Najeh had some off-the-field issues, and his performance last season wasn't anything to write home about. I kinda thought they would keep him around for awhile in case of an injury during camp but perhaps they wanted a little more room under the cap.
