Steelers sign Roye

The Steelers signed 47-year-old defensive lineman Orpheus Roye to a contract Sunday, hoping, praying, that somebody will knock Nick Eason off of this roster.

Roye, you'll remember, was a 1996 draft pick of the Steelers, who left the team to sign with Cleveland back in the stone ages. He was replaced in the starting lineup by a young Aaron Smith.

So much for getting younger on the defensive line.

Who's next? Ernie Stautner?

The signing of Roye shows a bit of the team's desperation for backup help on the defensive line. And desperation is not a good thing in the NFL.

The Steelers are now signing castoffs from the Cleveland Browns defensive line?? I can't believe how how fast the Steelers offensive and defensive lines are crumbling. That is where they have always won games......in the trenches.

Meanwhile over the past two years the Cleveland Browns ahve completely overhauled their lines. We could be looking at the changing of the guard in the AFC North.

GO BROWNS!

We need a back up DE that can handle the point of attack on run downs.

No misconceptions and not "desperate".

They had hoped someone would step up and could fill that void.

They had tried for awhile to fill it (see players like O Harris) but none had worked.

They need to apply more resources to it, but have tried to do it "on the cheap" unsuccessfully.

Of course, the Browns are the greatest ever. You guys have been sweeping us for years. Heck our best WR was so silly, he forgot to wear shoes and got his foot cut.

Put a 47 year old man on your roster is DE FACTO "desperate".

Cleveland Browns are the offseason champions of the world! Its always SuperBowl talk until October when they start talking draft again.

That is why I said there COULD be a changing of the guard. I know the Steelers have owned the Browns since they returned in 1999. But you can't deny that th Browns do seem to be improving, while the Steelers have taken some hits on their offensive and defensive lines.

Fixed :lmao:

Haha I love browns fans.

By the way I don't think the Steelers are desperate. I think the term "short handed" describes it better.

Hell, me and Orphie used to Golf back in 96'. Don't forget who carried the team that year. Damn straight, it was me!
