yes

reasoning: whole world locks up tonight. god presses reboot button. all records erased. NFL season reduced to 4 game playoff. Steelers win final four games.

mathematically they are.

But it takes a pretty long equation to get there.........I am just enjoying watching the young guys play.

They discussed this on the radio here in Pittsburgh tonight. The feeling was the problem isn't what other teams need to do, the problem is the ability to win the last 4 (now 3) games. There aren't many people, even in the burgh, that would pick them to win the last three with the way they have been playing plus all the injuries.

Even if they run the table and go 9-7, they will be 6-6 in the conference. Those 6 losses will crush their tiebreaker chances.

I could run down the scenario, but I don't have 3 hours to spare. Suffice it to say that they need to run the table and have about 20 other games go in their favor. Even if it was just 10 games, that's over 1,000 to 1 odds.

They have to win 3 straight over Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Carolina.

Even if they accomplish this, they have maybe a 5% chance of getting into the playoffs at 9-7.

In short, no way in hell. The Atlanta game and the Oakland game combined to de-rail this season.

No playoffs. They can, however, go out like champs with their heads high. Last night was a step in that direction.
:goodposting: and I think I can speak for most Steelers fans when I say I would much rather this team win out than lose out and get a higher draft pick. This season is about pride and if we can put a damper in Baltimore's homefield run and Cincy's playoff run, that would be wonderful. Also, I think it's essential that the Steelers finish the season out strong so that they have a shred of confidence going into next season. I'm still giddy about last season but am very excited about the final 3 games of this season regardless of what their record is.

The only correct answer to the question as it is asked is "yes". They can. "Will they?" is another question.

I think it will be tough for a team in the AFC to make the playoffs at 10-6.9-7.....I think almost impossible.
:goodposting:If the Steelers were in the NFC, I'd say there's a decent chance of making the playoffs. In the AFC, I'm almost certain a 10-6 team will be staying home. The Steelers lost any glimmer of hope when they got pounded by the Ravens. As it is, they still have 2.5 tough opponents left on the schedule. Running the table would give them something to build on...but it won't give them a playoff appearance.ETA: How bad do they want to get back the three games they "gave" away earlier this year (Oak, Atl, & Cincy)

:goodposting: Those two losses were just brutal. I almost hope we do go 9-7 and get very close to the playoffs but just miss by a game not going our way, so those knuckleheads can sit and stew about turnovers and watch film of those two games all offseason and come out next year with the fire in the belly. This year they came out feeling a little gassy.
