Stella Artois is garbage - Somehow now StarbucksChat (1 Viewer)

Remember the show Queer eye for the Straight guy.  They had a bunch of flaming homosexuals advising straight guys how to be more stylish so that they could get more out of life.  The definition of this is that guys should be more flaming, more feminine, less like guys, "gayness" being a negative trait.  Well in that show they had one of the gay guys commenting on food and drink.  He would use words like "notes', "undertones", 'harmonious blending", "sits lightly on the tongue and palate" , basically the same language I see in this thread.  All I could think of as that self proclaimed "Queer Guy" was going on and on was that he sucks ##### that have been shoved up male #######s.  I could not understand why anyone would care what he considered tasty.  I knew he was a harbinger.
So being able to express yourself intelligently is a "gay" characteristic for you?  I'm sure you can find a place where folks are just grunting and guzzling their Bud if you look around a bit.

Pretentious (and evidently gay, too) to enjoy a different kind of beer than you do, and to discuss the flavor of beer?  OK then.  You seem to have a pretty narrow perspective on life.
I am glad there are choices, and that folks can find pleasure in making theirs.  I appreciate that taste is subjective and variable so I would not anticipate others necessarily liking what I do, and vice versa.  I do find it pretentious when some condemn the clearly subjective taste of others, look down upon them judgmentally as having inferior and uneducated palettes, and spend great effort to try to quantify the subjective, seeking in do so the recognition and approval in the eyes of others.

The entire gist of this thread is to look down upon Stella Artois drinkers as lesser.  That is obviously a comfortable and familiar idiom for you.   Me, if folks find pleasure and value in drinking it I do not need to suggest that they should educate themselves that their subjective pleasure is somehow of a lesser quality than the subjective pleasure of another.

Hell, I don't even condemn the pseudo hipster culture that has given rise to these phenomena.  I am just fascinated, from an anthropological perspective on the rise of that culture.

I would agree that anyone being judgmental about someone else's tastes is being an a$$hat.  Pretty sure that not everyone was doing that, though.  As for the rest, I'd suggest looking in the mirror before calling anyone else judgmental -- you're the one assigning motivation to the actions of people you don't even know based on what they want to discuss on a freaking internet forum.  It just so happens that quite a few folks here really like beer, and discussing beer (https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/topic/724969-what-kind-of-beer-is-everyone-drinking-tonight/?page=1), and it really has nothing to do with looking down on anyone else.  The whole bitter anti-gay thing that you pulled in to the conversation somehow is something that you might want to keep a lid on, too, before you start throwing stones at others, but that's a whole separate topic.

I read somewhere on the internet that people crave hops due to weenus-size deficiency (medical term: WSD).

I think it was facebook so it must be true.

I've heard Merck is working on a cure.

I will give your opinion the consideration I believe it merits.  Thanks for sharing.  The final word, if you would like it, is yours.  You have the floor and my attention.  If I do not further respond it is out of respect for allowing you the final summation.

Fat Tire, Anchor Steam, 312 all great less hoppy beers. Look into wheat beers/Hefeweizens as well. Blue moon etc...

you can drink lighter, less hoppy beers without needing to sacrifice quality. Summer ales as well.

It's pretty much an American macro lager that happens to be brewed in Belgium, so it's basically a much less fresh version of something that you can get easily for half the price in another brand.  I find it bland -- nowhere near the yeast character present in the good Belgian ales, and no significant hop presence to speak of. Taste and smell has that "boiled veggie / grassy" character typical of mass-produced lagers.  The bottles are generally pretty skunky / light-struck. It's not awful like most big American lagers in that there isn't a dominant adjunct (corn, rice) presence, but it's in the same class -- except you pay much more for the "meh" with Stella. Beers like this are specifically made to be pretty bland so as to appeal to a a wide range of palates; there's nothing at all wrong with liking that, but neither is there anything wrong with preferring something with more flavor and complexity.
/thread.

it just got real up in here bromigos i mean brohans it just got fn real take that to the crappy beer is serus bidness bank

I was drinking an IPA while I was putting 36" tires on my Corvette, so you might be on to something.

Seems like there was a conflation of A) not liking a particular beer, say, SA, the subject of the thread with B) looking down on people who do like it, which CdL has taken pains to make clear (several times) isn't the case with him.

Maybe chalk it up to a miscommunication?

Wish we could "love" posts here.  This is great.

I will gladly drink a cold Stella if somebody hands me one.  If it's the only thing on tap at a wedding, so be it.  But I'm not paying grocery store prices for it ever.  Not only is it overpriced in stores, the bottles are only 11oz.  Don't charge me more for less.

Nothing against them, don't get the hate... There are a lot of beers I'd take over a Stella, but I'll happily enjoy one too.

I'm not going to look down on someone's beer habits unless they're drinking something like Natural Ice or a high end college beer like Rolling Rock.

Pretty sure DW was just making some funny in here.  Everybody R-E-L-A-X

Fat Tire = one of my favorite beers to use for cooking
Fat Tire = one of my least favorite beers for drinking

Huge fan of New Belgium Shift Lager in big cans.  Huge fan.

If it is completely dissolved, how would one go about taking it the bank?

I was wondering if I was the only boozebag who noticed the missing ounce. Pisses me off.

This thread reminds me of the kid in grade school who would say 'so and so is a nerd! don't be friends with him, he's a NERD!!!! and if you're friends with him then you're a loser!!!'

The U S and A doesn't do a whole lot better. I just spent a couple weeks in a flat in Bangkok, and the only American brands that had retail space within a few block walk were McDonalds, Starbucks, and KFC. It's like we're purposely exporting the worst #### we have.
Whoa....Starbucks coffee is excellent.

Apparently Stella is a multi-purpose product.  Thus far drain opening, and possum disposal.  I wonder if it can be used for removal of epoxy floor paint.

j/k, I don't even drink coffee.  I wouldn't have any idea.
I'll grant you that Starbucks customers can be a bit obnoxious with their drink orders that read like a passage from Dr. Seuss.  But if you just like black coffee, Starbucks beans are really hard to beat for the price.  I'll take their Dark Roasts available at Costco over anything else for the money.

Uh, no.  I mentioned up thread that I love pilsners.  I'd take Trumer Pils over Stella any day of the week, but prefer Oregon's Pils offerings the most.  You ever come out this way, look for this bad boy.
Funny you mention that Pils... i have a buddy from oregon who comes down to BBQfest every year and brings me great Oregon brews. This year he brought me two of those and I LOVED them. Fantastic beer.

HE offered me some IPAs as well but I declined since we had 16 Kegs of Lagunitas daytime and 8 Kegs of Lagunitas IPA on hand in the booth. A light pils was a refreshing shift.

Not my favorite either (Weihenstephan, Prima Pils up there for me), but it's not a bad pilsner.

I have a buddy in Portland, I'll ask him to bring some home next time.

How else are we going to take over the world?

'Murica.

Nice!  Yeah, I'm with you.  I love IPAs too, but for extended drinking and on hot days, I want a lighter fare.  Liquid Sunshine is excellent.  In fact, I think I'll grab a couple of pounders on my way home.
