Stella Artois is garbage - Somehow now StarbucksChat (3 Viewers)

American Pilsners:  Victory Prima, Firestone Walker Pivo, and Sierra Nevada Nooner are all very good and easy to find.  As far as locally here in the Midwest, New Glarus Two Women is really good.

brohan you do not have to actually have something to take it to the bank you are clearly not a brodi knight look all i am sayin is do or do not there is no try when it comes to understanding the way to the bank
The farce is strong with this one.

Stella is horrible.  It is pretty much undrinkable out of the bottle (will do it if I want to get drunk and it's the only option) and while drinkable on tap it is mediocre and terribly overpriced.  It's Belgium's equivalent to PBR.  I honestly think the only people who drink Stella do so because they don't know what a good beer is, but want people to think that they like drinking good beer.

I don't know the difference between a pilsner, ipa or whatever other stupid beer categories there are
GENERALLY SPEAKING:
Pilsner is your more standard lighter beer most Americans are familiar with
IPA = more Bitter, Hoppier flavors that can have a mouth drying effect. Degree varies based on amount/type of hops.

The biggest difference between those two is one is an Ale and the other a Lager.  Completely different fermentation process.
Which kind is this (Bud + Schlitz = Butz)?

* Since it came up earlier, albeit in a SLIGHTLY different context, Great Divide Brewing Company has a whole line of Yeti beers (though can't vouch for them, never tried).

I'll grant you that Starbucks customers can be a bit obnoxious with their drink orders that read like a passage from Dr. Seuss.  But if you just like black coffee, Starbucks beans are really hard to beat for the price.  I'll take their Dark Roasts available at Costco over anything else for the money.
Best is Mt hood roasters, stop in next time you go up the mountain

Complete opposite for me.  I was strictly a Miller High Life/Budweiser guy forever.  Started getting into amber beers about 5 years ago and that's all I drank for a few years.  Started dabbling in IPAs and now that's all I can drink.  Someone bought me a Bud Select at a ball game last weekend and it took effort to get it down.

:goodposting:

Bell's Amber was my "gateway" beer I guess and then Oktoberfest/Marzen beers. Then had a Lakefront IPA during a tour of the brewery and that was it. Complete hophead now, although I do like a good stout and love me some barrel aged goodness.

Hops have ruined the beer industry to people like me.  I'm a fan of ales but most of them are so hoppy I can't stand them.  Pretty much stick to Belgians (especially witbier),

Seriously? Try the dark roasts at Trader Joe's. About the same cost, and light years better.

Starbucks burns their beans so they always taste the same as well as to mask the taste of lower quality beans.  They're the McDonald's of coffee.

I'd say the McDonalds of coffee is McDonalds - their coffee sucks too.

Is the US craft beer industry really this one dimensional? I know the push down there has been more and more for IPA's and the like. Up here, thankfully the focus has returned to more balanced beers. Ontario craft breweries have always been heavily influenced by German and English traditions ad of course there are some trying to do more and more with hop heavy IPA styles but not to the extent of ignoring other traditional styles, like it seems you're saying is the case in the States.

I'd say right now the biggest growth style is kolsch/lagered ale. New versions are coming out from all over and since I lean to pilsner/kolsch/helles type german lagers for the summer, I couldn't be happier.

I loved the belgians and witbiers for a while, but it seems since Kronenbourg Blanc got a big push, they're getting sweeter and more orange juicy - but maybe my tastes have just changed.

no you can find plenty of different styles and a lot of experimental stuff.  seems like when something is a hit though everyone mimics that style

I'm actually waiting for the Hard Soda craze to die down so my grocery store can expand it's selection of craft beer...that garbage is taking up way too much valuable space.  I do have a great beer/liquor store nearby but sometimes it's nice to just pick up a some decent beer while i'm doing the rest of my shopping (plus any trip to the fancy store is an automatic $100)

No, most ales are not hoppy.  If you don't like hoppy beer .... then don't buy IPA or APAs. There are TONS of beers out there that aren't of that variety. I will grant you that they were (still are?) the craze so they dominate the shelves but not so much so that you can't find lots of other options. Russian Imperial Stout, Hefeweizen, Bock, Scotch Ale, etc, etc. IPA and APA are only two of a long list of ale styles.

I'm totally on a sour kick right now.  Bar nearby always has several rotating in their taps.  And they have an amazing kitchen.

It's a matter of taste IMO.  Starbuck's absolutely does roast their beans darker than do most other places / brands, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the beans are crap.  Some people prefer the darker roasts, some people prefer the lighter.  It's not fair to compare a huge chain like Starbuck's to smaller more expensive kinds of beans (I'm a huge fan of Intelligentsia), anyway.  As far as big chains go, I like Starbuck's, and I drink my coffee black also.

I do like a dark roast, so maybe it's the burnt beans I enjoy.  I can't stand Starbucks "Pike" blend, which is really poor quality, IMO.  But anything dark is fine by me.  The Costco bag of beans provides our family the best bang for the buck.

Enjoying some ice cold Stella bottles with the fiance before hitting a pair of viewings. Seems like a quality pre-wake beverage to me.

I'm kidding, Starbucks coffee is ok.  I just put milk and sugar in it anyway.

But cheap beer, nothing I can put in that to make it better.

The U S and A doesn't do a whole lot better. I just spent a couple weeks in a flat in Bangkok, and the only American brands that had retail space within a few block walk were McDonalds, Starbucks, and KFC. It's like we're purposely exporting the worst #### we have.
Wait a minute here.
