Stephen Davis to sign with Rams! (1 Viewer)

Stephen Davis-RB-Rams Sep. 1 - 1:41 pm et Yahoo Sports has confirmed that Stephen Davis and the Rams have agreed to terms on a one-year contract for $850,000 contract. It's the league minimum salary and should be finalized Friday. We're not sure why the Rams would sign Davis now and guarantee his contract when they could wait until after Week 1 and take less risk. They can't be confident in Tony Fisher and Moe Williams.Source: Yahoo Sports
As a Ram PSL ticket holder (what ever that means, other than the price has doubled since they moved here bUT we do have a Super Bowl) the word on talk radio is that Davis is to receive $250,000.00 for being on the PUP; if he signs he would not get the money. However, if the Rams give him the league minimum guarantee plus some other consideration $ he would be a Ram. I have Jackson in two keeper leagues and sorry to report that he is becoming a very good Tap Dancer before hitting the hole. Two many carries for no yards, - yards or 1 yard. Leaves the 2nd and long. Hope he does well but than they can always keep Danzel Washington's son as a RB. :hey:

Not to hijack, but...when does St Louis have a Super Bowl?

Right before #### Vermeil cried and then retired... (The second time, not to be confused with his first retirement from the eagles or his third retirement from the Chiefs, because I'm pretty sure he cried in all three cases).

Sorry...read it to mean it was a future site...thought I missed something.

I see the value of handcuffing a "stud" Rb with his backup. Does this signing warrant the Davis to Jackson handcuff? I personally don't feel that Davis could handle the load if Jackson goes down but thought I would throw it out there for opinion....

Don't see why Davis couldn't handle the load, at least for a few games, if Jackson goes down. Davis should be completely healthy. Who knows, Davis could get the goaline carries. Jackson hasn't been healthy a whole year so far in his career, right? Davis might not only be a good handcuff.

IF Davis signs with the Rams and IF Davis is healthy, Davis WILL get the goalline TDS. Jackson is bound to lose anywhere from 6-10 TDS IF Davis signs. To me losing between 36 and 60 points is significant.
:lmao:
This is funny, why? I own Jackson....... :oDavis only had 549 yards last year but he had 12 TDS. Seriously when the ball is on the 1 yard line, you don't believe Davis will be the one to run it in? He can push the pile forward better than Jackson and coaches care about points on the scoreboard, they don't care about your fantasy squad one iota.
Back away from the edge of the cliff man...it will be OK. Jackson isn't exactly bad on the goalline so it's not like they're desperate for someone to take this job. Bottom line is that they have a bunch of crap behind Jackson and they are trying to improve their depth with a proven back. Relax...
:goodposting:Again, this overreaction crap, if it's happening in your league, NEEDS to be taken advantage of.
:goodposting:
It's fashionable or some to ridicule "overreaction", but ask yourself this. For an offensive coordinator like Linehan who has always utilized a specialist at the goalline who is different from his main HB, when there's discussion about a guy like Stephen Davis being added to the team, perhaps even being added in place of Linehan's traditional goalline back, Moe Williams, is it not perfectly reasonable to start considering that SJax may not get the goalline carries and hence may not quite justify his top 6 draft position that some have him in? Is that overreaction?
:goodposting: It's not like having a guy take the goal line carries is something new for Linehan. Add the fact that one of those guys was Moe Williams, a player the Rams signed earlier, and one of the best in the NFL in recent years just got signed by the Rams. For those of you who think everything is fine and there is nothing to worry about, I think you need to duck because a big dose of reality about the size of a small car is going to hit you in the head. If all you SJax owners keep your heads burried in the sand you just might find you playoff hopes hidden down there...

The Rams have brought in two Goal Line Specialists. What should we infer as to why they would do so?
that teams prefer to go into a season with more than one healthy RB

KFFL:

Rams | Davis expected to be No. 2 RBFri, 1 Sep 2006 17:40:15 -0700The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Stephen Davis is expected to serve as the team's No. 2 running back in 2006 behind starting RB Steven Jackson. "He's obviously a proven back in this league as a starter, and as a No. 2, he complements what we're going to try and get done in our running game," Rams head coach Scott Linehan said. "Steven Jackson is our starter, and (Davis) gives us depth and has gotten to that part of his career where he can complement Steven." Linehan said Davis should play in St. Louis' season opener Sept. 10 against Denver.

If that's all you see by the signing of two goal line specialists in the offseason (and one just before the season starts) then you don't have a firm grasp on the NFL. For those of you SJax owners who think everything will be just fine and that SDavis won't steal goal line carries, please tell me how SDavis will be used? They gonna make the guy a 3rd down back? At his age do you think that he will be an everydown full back?

The guy is signed and on the 53 man roster. He's going to get carries. Gee, I wonder where he will get those carries?

1st and 10?

2nd and 6

3rd and 17 screen pass?

2nd and goal from the 1? :football:

I don't see the guy getting 12 TD's like he did last year or SJax pulling himself at the GL like Fred Taylor. But I can certainly see SDavis getting 6 TD's. If that were the case in 2006 using numbers from 2005 dropping 36 points from the 9th RB (TJones) pushes the guy back to the 17th ranked RB. I'm not saying that the presence of SDavis will push SJax out of the top 15. I'm just putting a half dozen TD's into perspective.

a) i don't own Jacksonb) he'll be used as a backup RB, they don't all have to be specialty backs.
