Maybe there is something to the rumur that the Rams want to run more in '06

I still think Jax get s the GL carries - Moe is nothing more than an ins policy. Don't recall Miami having a GL back - they usually let the RB finish the drive if I remember correctly.

I'm a Jackson owner in a couple of leagues, and I'm not willing to assume that Williams will be the handcuff. He was signed to fill the roster spot left behind by Faulk but that doesn't necessarily make him the #2. Linehan was saying a few days ago that Fisher would be a good #2 if they didn't come up with someone else, and I think he had Bennett (and possibly C Brown) in mind. If Jackson went down Fisher could be the handcuff, or he and Williams could share duties. Williams doesn't have much left in the tank these days. I wouldn't burn a roster spot on either guy as a handcuff until I've heard something definitive from the Rams as to what their roles will be.

Then why sign him at all?

? are you serious? why sign him?, so they have depth at the position in case of injury, and to spell s.jackson. that is why, not every rb signed is there to steal goaline touches! good lord!

what is really nice, is that i like him better than candy bones bennett and it didnt cost us a draft pick!

Wonder how and if he'll factor into the goalline opps.
And......... that is the question which 8,000 of us just came here to ask. :scared:
32 yr old street FAs coming off major knee surgery don't take goalline carries away from 240lb power backs.
Then why sign him at all?
Hes an excellent pass blocker, he knows Linehan's system cold, and he has good hands out of the backfield.

And just what does s.jax and moe have to do with Miami??!!?? rofl
STL's new coach is from Miami, I think that's his point.Moe Will knows Linehan's system. and they have no faulk and only tony fisher behind S.jax

Linehan was OC in Miami last year
ya, but they ain't in kansas any more, dorothy
so, toto, you think there is nothing to be learned by how Linehan (or any coach) managed players in game situations in their previous jobs?

Apparently that's exactly what TSB_VaKnight is implying.

if this is the only guy the Rams bring in, SJax owners should be :excited:  :banned: :pickle: :headbang:
Yeah, that's true. Both Fisher and Williams would have minor roles and a healthy Jackson would really be a workhorse. This question as to why Williams would be signed if he isn't specifically designated with GL or 3rd-down duty is silly. Faulk's departure opened up a spot. They filled it with a vet who knows the new offensive system and can help teach it to others. He doesn't have to have a major role to fill a need.

Rams | M. Williams passes physical

Published Wed Aug 2 5:30:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Moe Williams (knee) had two physicals with the team. The first one wasn't clear, so they brought him in for a second one and he was able to pass that physical. He is recovering from micro-fracture surgery on his right knee, which was performed in November last year. Head coach Scott Linehan said Williams feels good and they feel he will be a "great addition" to the Rams. Williams will compete with RB Tony Fisher for the No. 2 running back position. Williams also brings the ability to play on special teams, according to Linehan.
