Quick question for you sharks. I'm not nearly as intimate with fantasy info this year as in years past, and the fantasy gods seems to be punishing me since I drafted Pennington and Stewart. Stewart is my RB3 and I have Najeh Davenport hoping for a Green injury. I am lost on what to do about perhaps dropping Dav in order to snag Bryson before someone else does. :confused: :confused:

I don't take kindly to people, "...hoping for a Green injury," or one to any other player for that matter! :hot: :rant: :boxing: I understand that you "are not nearly as intimate with fantasy info this year as in years past" but you, having lost Pennington and Stewart, should know "intimately" that you are playing with the karma and have reaped the rewards. :wacko: As for who you should pick up, how about Leon Johnson from the Bolts?
 
What the hell are you nervous nellies yappin about? This is FOOTBALL, he'll be back by Week 2 at the latest. He probably plays week one. He's not a QB, he's a runner. Cortisone and painkillers make all things possible. Sheesh.

yeah but once it comes out it is that much easier for it to do it again... hence the need for pins in my shoulder... a week before I was to go in it came out again while playing a pick up game I reached out my hand to catch a rather soft BOUNCE pass. When the weight of the ball rested in my hands my shoulder slipped out again!! If it is a dislocation he may suffer with it all season without something to help hold it in... a brace of somekind may work...but a teammate of mine used something for his shoulder and it would come out on him even still...the brace just made it harder to put it back in.

I did exactly this tonight; Fingers crossed Ahman doesn't get hurt. If Bryson turns out to not get the nod, I'll pick Davenport back up.
 
Ike Hilliard missed the rest of last season, but Derrick Mason only missed 2 games...Who knows, he might be back next week or next year

Some guy on ESPN.radio just said that it is worse than a separated shoulder and that we will be out for awhile, though it won't be announced until tomorrow.I'll try to catch him name and post it.Edited to add: It was Adam Kaplan (sp?) from footballinjuries.com

Updating previous reports, DetroitLions.com reports Detroit Lions RB James Stewart (shoulder) was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder. The injury will be further evaluated Friday, Aug. 29, but may affect Stewart's availability for the team's season opener Sept. 7.

 
I had a 3rd degree separation from a mountain bike crash. I never had surgery, so I have no ligaments connecting my collar bone to my shoulder. Funny thing is, you don't NEED those ligaments for your shoulder to function "correctly", but I can tell you the pain is unbelievably bad for a LONG time even if you just bump it. Granted, I didn't have happy shots to take, but I can't imagine taking an NFL-style pounding on a badly separated shoulder any time soon (months) after the injury. A 1st or 2nd degree separation wouldn't be that big a deal.A dislocation CAN be worse, but is usually better because the term is loosely applied to shoulder problems that may or not be true dislocations. One of those "fake" dislocations isn't that big a deal. A true dislocation is bad news and probably one par with a 3rd degree separation, maybe worse (though I can't imagine it feels much worse).

 
ESPN.com is reporting it as a shoulder separation with no timetable for return.Mariucci also is not sure who the starter will be and used the dreaded RBBC comment.From ESPN.com"I don't know who the bellcow would be. I don't know who the lead dog would be," said Mariucci, in his first year with the Lions. "If we have a guy who's capable of 25 carries a game, I don't know that we have that person ready yet. It very well may be running back by committee."Mariucci didn't rule out the option of the team signing another running back.

 
"...i don't know if we have that person ready yet..." Sounds like he could be thinking of someone inparticular, maybe.

Argh! I get in this morning and see one of my two (planned) starting RBs go down. I was absolutely positive I was going to get him on the cheap in my auction tomorrow and free up some cash for a stud elsewhere. DAMMIT!!!! ARGH!!!I guess it's good I made a big deal about having our auction AFTER the preseason had ended, despite it being Labour Day weekend. Others wanted to do the auction last week...Z

 
Now, does anybody know anything about separated shoulders?

They hurt. A lot. And they tend to be recurrent. The upshot is if there is no ligament damage they 'heal' very quickly. I played with a guy that seperated his shoulder in 3 consecutive games, always ready for the next week. But again it depends on the structural damage, if any.
 
You heard it here first......Autrey Denson Nothing more than a gut feeling after watching the pre-season games. ;)

I suffered two subluxations (shoulder dislocates, then pops immediately back in on its own) in my left shoulder while swinging a softball bat last summer. I ended up with some stretched ligaments and it took me about six weeks before I felt comfortable enough to work out again. It was terrible; there was a noticeable feeling of instability in the shoulder joint and occassional sharp pains. I hear that a separation is much worse, so I would be very worried if I were a Stewart owner.Then again, I'm not a medical professional or anything; just some Schmoe who can't swing a softball bat correctly.

I've got the same injury in my left shoulder (4 times for me) and I can totally sympathize with this. I can't imagine the pain of a total separation.
 
gee, what a surprise i've asked several times why a 32 yr old RB, that can't stay healthy, has started 19 games the last 2 years, is zooming up the draft board? for anyone dumb enough to draft this guy before the 6th round; you got what you deserve!

Now now, you're not just trying to pick a fight are you? Well, when you're in a 12 team 2-keeper league, and even Stacey Mack and Trung Canidate are gone by the second regular round, and you need to draft 4 RBs, it leaves little choice. Someone had to take him - and that someone happened to be me. You'd say the same thing about some of the other RBs Faulk, Taylor, but face it - running backs get hurt. And a lot of the time, age and injury history has nothing to do with it. Shoulders are not meant to withstand the force of a mack truck. I don't care if you're James Stewart or Priest Holmes (oh wait, he's been hurt), ok then Ladainain (oops, hurt), ok then Marshall Fa.......oh, forget it!! Joints on ANYONE or not meant to bend in certain directions and get hit real hard, I don't care how young or conditioned an athlete is...

I don't see any other Lions RB worth a damn.. It would be RBBC hell and best to avoid unless they bring a guy from outside..

Sounds more like a dislocation than a separation. Separations don't tend to recurr and there is ligament damage by definition. Disloactions DO tend to recurr and may not involve ligament damage at all. A partial dislocation (or subluxation) is very common and can often be "played through" after the shoulder works it's way back into correct position.

Nope... I mean "Autrey Denson". Black horse, long shot, use whatever adjective you want, but remember me when Denson is the team's leading rusher. Not Portis by any stretch of the imagination, but since Barry left it's not hard to lead the Lions in rushing.
 
This is warranting way too much attention. We don;t even know if Stewart is out that long. Pick up Bryson, he's the least worst of the bunch.

 
Would be a great FFA bracket. Inside fantasy football name coupled with their performance and impact on season.

Like an Anthony Johnson (Car) would be a high seed.

Just those phantoms who had an impact. Be fun to vote for cause a lot of those guys won it for us or killed us.
