Zillow is getting crushed this morning and announced that they are permanently out of the i-buying business and will be laying off 25% of their work force.  I see this as a great long term opportunity to buy.  I thought getting into the flipping business was foolish and am seeing first hand this business model failing.  Very smart of them to realize this and pull the plug.  I think this moves them back into the tech category.

For anyone in Open Door this is your opportunity to exit unless you they they are smarter than the Zillow folks.
Cathie Woods agrees.  ARKK added 288k shares yesterday.

Sold ACI just now  @ 35 for 20% gain in about 2 weeks' time

Thanks, @BassNBrew

No problem and thank you for the heads up on the jump today.  I'm selling any grocery stock on a day it pops 10%.  Little wins like this have covered my stupid decisions like sitting on too much Amazon and hidden several tech losers.  Still holding my shares acquired at $14.47 almost exactly a year ago.  Mainly keeping them as a tracking mechanism in case this slides back below $30 again.  I will keep trading this a Kroger any time they drop as people have to eat.

I bought in a week ago and am up 30%.

Had to trim some and take some profits today.

This is very wise IMO.  I'm sitting on 150% gain on my original position.   That looks good until I see that my closed positions which are 26x larger have made 23%.  This is a very good trading stock.

I'm betting the problem with Zillow is Zillow. They lied 2 weeks ago when the CEO said they are pausing their buying because of a "labor shortage", only to cut 25% of their workforce yesterday?

They couldn't make ibuying work in a historic bull real estate market? That's like a casino losing money. But yeah, if you can't make it work in a hot market you better exit before it cools.

To make matters worse, the Zillow CEO said, “We’ve determined the unpredictability in forecasting home prices far exceeds what we anticipated”. The Zillow CEO basically admits that their "Zestimate" is complete BS. That is their entire business. If their AI can't forecast home prices, what is their business?

I had 500 OPEN @ 13 avg. Sold 200 this morning to hedge. OPEN has always been a black or red play for me. Either it works or it doesn't, but I'm curious to see their ER next week. If OPEN crushes it, where does Zillow go from there? A solid OPEN report would mean the Zillow CEO is lying again and making excuses for bad management.

Kind of disappointed that everyone keeps saying the Fed taper will have no effect and that it's already priced in.  I was really hoping for a quick fake fear drop to do some discount shopping.

These companies bid up home prices, great for sellers, not so much for first time buyers.  From a real estate agent's perspective it was pretty embarrassing giving a market analysis to a potential client and then having a client get an offer from Zillow for 5% over that.

Actually their business is marketing and selling ads to Realtors.  I think they are pretty good at that.  Yes the Zestimate is crap, but it drives website traffic.  You'll see if often reference in the Real Estate thread.  As they say, bad press is better than no press.

I'm going to keep buying on the way down.  A some point this will be an over reaction.  I actually think them admitting the mistake of getting into i-buying is a very good thing.  Whenever the real estate market cools, OPEN will get crushed just like the speculators in 2008 did and it will make Nadar Poorhousin sitting on $1 million  in Lebronlemonade look brilliant.

shout out to this thread.

bought TWLO on the big dip and now it's moving.

:hifive:
Been sitting on a 100 shares of TWLO for a couple years now. It’s been a lot of ups and downs but it’s still growing like a weed and they’ve made some nice acquisitions to keep it rolling. The acquisitions are likely where the extra losses came in, but I think it’s a nice long term play.

Nice afternoon rally we got here.
It is. Nice day. Just bought 500 EXPI pre-earnings call tonight because it was such a nice day. I think they’ll have a nice earnings and it’s an IRA purchase. I don’t normally do this but F it. It went down a lot in sympathy with Z but they are like Redfin, they don’t do house buying, just real estate broker stuff.

Damn, no AHs trading at all for EXPI. They got $1.1B in revenue over expectations of  $966M. Seemed like a nice report especially after it went down 10% in sympathy with Z. I was hoping for a little better idea if I was a ####### or did well.

I meant to buy TWLO in the 280s but never got around to it.  Missed the boat there.

I've actually been selling the last two days.  I'm sitting at about 20% cash right now as things just seem iffy.  We're straight up since that October bottom even by insane 2020/2021 standards.

It would only cost $1K to double down on STMH. I just have a nagging feeling that grand would be better spent anywhere else. A made-in-Mexico Stratocaster, for instance.

I did that today with Tesla. Got out with a 65% gain and will keep the cash on the sideline.

I saw they just purchased a vertically integrated operation in Colorado giving them another state. I really like the fact they own the entire supply chain from farm to home including some tech.

I know prices are tanking here in OR due to oversupply so that might affect their revenue, but I still like what I see from them in terms of growth and their product.

CVS is rolling, good earnings and good outlook going forward.  They get immediate help as that they will get more business from the boosters.

They are a good long play regardless as they use more of their stores for Aetna clinics

SO,

I have about 24K in etrade.  I think im going to put that into RIVN and then I will buy options when avail wth a crypto.  Need to move that money now and have it on deck.

Was planning on doing the same without moving money but got killed with DWAC.  which was profits from BROS.

Just talking outloud......

Started a position in $DOCN yesterday. Another expensive cloud platform yada yada. Similar to $GLBE in that it's a recent IPO that didn't go completely bonkers right out of the gate. Focused on smaller businesses and a huge developer community, gross profit margin in the 70%'s aiming for the 80's. Not real expensive compared to others in related spaces.
$DOCN reported beats and raised guidance this morning. Not monster beats and raises, but beats and raises nonetheless. Down a bit premarket, but I’ll forgive it since it ran from $55 on the day of this post to where it is today.

why would you put that all in Rivn?  Ford or Toyota are much better values if you want to be in the auto segment and not tech

Is it OK to say good? I grabbed a half share (worth more now) way lower but I’d like to add some more. I still get this feeling like there’s another 10-15% trip up coming soon so I may wait a little.

And now disagrees and sold 2.8 million shares of Z today.
Well that explains the slow bleed down today. Some is going to have to explain what the heck she is doing besides pissing away money. Even I figured out a week ago that ibuying was a flip for them. If you’re buying on the news they paused, why would you sell on the news they ceased?  Getting out of the flipping business shifts them back to their tech and marketing roots.

If you told me that Amazon was selling their Walmart delivery business and focusing solely  on AWS and I could own the stock for $500 I’d be all over that. Note that I discounted the stock price from $1000 to $500 to account for Amazon actually making some money delivering to while Z lost money flipping houses.
