Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (11 Viewers)

Saw the Bill Nye show so decided to look for an episode that interested me. Decided to pick the one on diets.

Pretty bad.  If the rest of the series is like this...just understand going in it's heavy on the humor (of which you be the judge) and VERY LIGHT on facts/science.

If you like cop shows (not an action show, more about the investigation), and a Caribbean island as the setting, check out the show "Death in Paradise"

Ummm...wife and I tried this.  One of the most inane, unenjoyable shows we've ever watched four episodes of.  Terrible grammar.  Shoot me.  In Paradise.

It's like a cross between Broadchurch and Top of the Lake. Very solid start.

Really loving this show. Each "story" is two episodes. Characters get better and better as does the show. Season 3 is the best so far, IMO.

Check out Shetland. 

 
Gf and I started watching Son's of Anarchy. Pretty good so far. Halfway through season 2. I'm sure there is a thread dedicated to it.

 
my lady and i really liked the seven five it is a documentary about mike dowd the famous crooked cop in new york i know i know documentary but just give it a shot bromigos i bet you will like it take that to the bank

 
Started to watch "The Night Manager" the other night. Really good cast with Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston. The writing and direction, after the first episode, leave a lot to be desired. Hiddleston would seem to be quite miscast. How did he win an Emmy for this?

It was well-intentioned, but I made it through 3/4 of episode 1 and gave up.

 
Big shoutout to @SWC for The Five Seven mention.  Really eye-opening documentary. Is it wrong that I felt sympathetic in a way to the corrupt cop?

It was kind of hard to get through the middle slog, but I must say the payoff was quite satisfying.  I was glad we stuck with it.

 
Daredevil

Now that I've finished season 2, I'm glad I watched the series. But there are several flaws: 1) I don't mind the idea of a Foggy character, but this guy is awful. 2) The show uses extreme violence, so that precludes young viewers, but the writing is so juvenile, the show has an uneven tone. 3) Please, please, please no more shots of Daredevil standing on a building looking over the city. 

 
Small Crimes - I watched this Netflix movie last night. Its not bad. Its about a cop who goes to prison for 6 years and is then released. And the foibles he gets into upon release. Its got a couple of laughs and some very sad moments. Its not great, but if you are looking for something decent to spend 85 minutes on, this is fine.

1st season = great.  2nd season = good.  3rd season = decent.  Every season after that delves further into the ridiculous, but it's one that's hard to let go of.  You just accept that it turns into a gang violence show after the promise it showed early.

 
ran into an issue where I cant watch Netflix through the Comcast/Xfinity X1 on multiple TV's in the same house.  anyone else have an issue like this?

my account is set up for 2 TV's and I tested it by having my mom log in with my account at her house and we can both watch on 1 TV simultaneously, but not 2 within my own household

I'm wondering if it treats the entire X1 setup as 1 device or something

quick google search I wasn't able to find much so just curious if anyone else has the same issue.

we're almost done with this... became a little silly, but it's still a fun ride so far.

Season 6, where they went to Syria to fight ISIS was pretty whack.

I felt the same way.  It was missing something.  Also needs more Kingpin

Yeah, there's definitely a gradual descent into silly. But the entire soap opera is worth the watch.

 
first few seasons of sons of anarchy was awesome.  i had no expectations before watching and was surprised how much i liked it.  when some of the major story lines starting to end mainly the one with his step father, i got out.  i heard from too many how bad the show got at the end and didn't want to waste my time on it.

If you've seen a Tom and Jerry cartoon, that's about what happened in the last season.

 
OJ trial series was pretty decent, especially if you were old enough to remember being saturated with it at the time.  Another (more recent) historical one was more of a documentary style... American Experience: Ruby Ridge.  Being fairly new to the Idaho Panhandle I thought I'd relearn it.  Pretty solid piece.  13 Reasons was not really my typical but I'm glad I watched it.  Well done.

 
Also, being new to Idaho, and being an outdoors type, Backcountry was pretty damned scary and riveting to me.

Wentworth is one of my favorite series in the last year.  Much more dark and serious than Orange is the New Black, but with plenty of comedy, decent characters and fun stories.  Some episodes get bogged down and are a little too much fluff, but nothing like Orange despite being a chick prison movie.  Not a totally serious show, but not all intensity and cerebral either.  Easy watching.  A few of them are easy on the eyes too and all the ones that aren't make you appreciate the Nicole da Silva types that much more.  Danielle McCormack's character is pretty well written and acted.

ETA - The Aussie accents make the hot girls that much better.  :porked:

I have never been so disappointed in the ending of a series. What a ####ty way to end a great show, can't believe HBO pulled the plug.

sunnava... the season finale is such a litany of nonsensical wtfs- super frustrating after what was a really good run. the wife seemed to like it, so I might be flying solo on that opinion. anybody else watching this? I'll discuss further if so. will post the same over in the amazon thread.

 
oh- the wife started us on 13 reasons why. hopefully one of the reasons is why the kid doesn't just sit down and binge listen to all the tapes. we've watched two, and I don't know how much more of him asking other people about the tapes with the same avoid/won't-tell responses. I get it- that's the conceit/concept of the show- 1 tape or side per episode... but idiotic conceit if so. other than that, I guess it's ok teen suicidal stuff. prefer my teen genocide in the 100 though.
