Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (15 Viewers)

Started watching this out of the blue a few days ago , hadn't ever heard of it but I tend to like these kind of shows so thought I'd check it out. Only about 5 episodes into first season and I'm really liking it.
Good show.  Keeps getting better.  Looks like it was renewed for season 3.

Finished Mindhunter and watched first 2 episodes of Stranger Things last night.

Both shows are fantastic.  I'm amazed at how well Netflix is doing with so many different kind of shows.

Like some, I'm not a binge watcher. I've been watching an episode of season 1 of Arrow followed by an episode of Stranger Things. Been a nice mix

Probably the closest I have come  to binging would be ordering Netflix dvds of season 1 of Lost after we started watching during season 2 and we wanted to get caught up. Typically two episodes a night. A couple of nights of three episodes.

I've watched 3 episodes of Season 2 so far and

Man they love tearing out of gravel drives in rear wheel vehicles.
:lmao:   I wonder if their intention was to make it a signature move to look for in every episode, like how once a show Rockford threw it in reverse, floored it, did a 180, then shifted to a forward gear and hit the road.

I definitely think it's intentional. Every TV show with a motorized vehicle that aired in the 70s and 80s did it. Starksy & Hutch had way more 180 burnouts than lines of dialogue (unless it was a Huggy-centric episode, then it may have been close).

A mediocre procedural I used to watch, Numbers, almost always had a scene in the first half where the two deputies caught a suspect after a dramatic chase on foot.  And if the perp lived in an upper floor of an apartment building, you could bank on someone sliding down a fire escape during the pursuit.

The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)

With Dustin Hoffman, Adam Sandler, Emma Thompson and Ben Stiller. Noah Baumbach fans will like this movie. Frances Ha and Greenberg are two movies I really like, and this movie is in that same tradition. Granted, this movie is very derivative of Woody Allen. But the cast is excellent. Particularly great are Sandler and Stiller. I am not a fan of Sandler's comedies. But ever since Punch Drunk Love, I've long thought that Sandler is a terrific dramatic actor and I wish he'd do more roles like this.

started this last night too... is it baumbach? didn't realize that. so far I'm liking it, even if the repeated parental/child dynamic/psychosis is getting tiring midway through.

The Last Kingdom season 2 is up. More of the same through two episodes. Not amazing but I enjoy it.
Just finished S2 of The Last Kingdom this afternoon. I'm now a big fan of this show, really engrossing. Might be the best thing I've watched on Netflix, I liked it at least as much as Stranger Things (though they are completely different shows). Mildly reminiscent of GOT minus the magic element.

The Homesman was just added. I can't put my finger on why but I really liked this one. If the description of a movie includes "driven mad", odds are I will enjoy it to some extent.

Three women who have been driven mad by pioneer life are to be transported across the country by covered wagon by the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy, who in turn employs low-life drifter George Briggs to assist her.

We're watching the Atwood show, alias grace. Well done so far, but slow going flashbacks to get to an ultimate reveal of the truth of what happened (hopefully). I might have a crush on the lead.

Mindhunter was awesome sauce. Rough subject and the finale scene was a perfect handoff to S2. Dennis Rader (BTK Strangler) I assume is the character in Kansas?

They are slow playing that, it fits like a glove. Storytelling at it's finest on the small screen. It'll lose some over the subject matter to be a MASSIVE NETFLIX HIT, but well worth it to break down the details of the unit's concept/methodology/characters/killers/etc. I thought the storyline would veer to a Breaking Bad-type where Holden would cross sides so to speak, but there are crumbs where his arc is/could very well be carrying him to a bad place. I blame Holden time w/ Kemper  :gang1:

I loved the Judah Friedlander comedy special. I knew he was smart but the guy is so quick-witted and knowledgeable about a variety of topics and delivers with a perfect dead-pan. He reminds me a bit of Mitch Hedberg. He also blends high-brow and low-brow humor seamlessly. Highly recommend.

It's based on the actual formation of the behavioral sciences unit and the real guys involved, so I don't think it'll venture into that territory.

Just found out my 13-year-old watched season 1 of Stranger Things this week.  She tells me it was a little violent.  I am reading about season 2 and it sounds like it gets a bit worse.  Is it too much?

I don't know where this kid is getting the time for this.  She used to just want to text with her friends during her limited device time.  And I guess now that I think about it, she was so disorganized in the past that we had to spend all of our time making sure she was getting chores and homework down.  Now we worked on that and she is kicking ### with that, leaving her with more free time.

I also see that she watched the first few minutes of Big Mouth.  Yikes.  I asked Bill Simmons for advice and he said to show her all of Big Mouth, then watch Glengarry Glen Ross and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  But instead, I changed her content settings to Teens and lower.

I don't think it's worse. I can recall one scene that's kinda bad in a PG-13 way, violence-wise. There are some kid-in-distress moments, but very little gore.

I thought Bob's scene was a little more than necessary.  But overall, about the same as season 1 in terms of "scary" factor.

My 10yo binged s1 over the summer. Has been watching S2 with us now. We have one left. Feels like S2 is aliens to s1's alien. If she handled the first, she'll be fine with second.

Imo, S2 is more of the same, but since the novelty of the 80s nostalgia has work off, I'm left with more of the plot to consider... Which is slight

Just finished Manhunt: Unabomber

i enjoyed everything about it except when the main charachter was on screen. Luckily, there is so much more to the show that makes up for it. If you liked Mindhunter, give this a try. I found it because it was recommended when I finished Mindhunter.
