Thanks for the suggestion on Halt and Catch Fire whoever suggested. Almost done with the first season and enjoying it immensely despite pretty much hating all the main characters.
I feel exactly the same way. While the characters are sympathetic at times, they can be very annoying and spiteful. Still, interesting show.

I thought S1 was better than S2. Man, it's a beautiful looking show, but, the writing could use some help.

Agreed that Foy is great. But her replacement is a stud in her own right. Big fan of her, and no doubt she'll kick ### in the role.

I mean, they could age Foy for one more season, I guess, but, this thing is supposed to run for five more seasons/decades, and Foy sure can't play the queen in her 70s, 80s, or 90s. Same with her husband. I think they'll be fine switching things up.
I think the writing is pretty good but the Margaret proposal scene was bone-crunchingly bad.

Do you mind if I don't get on a knee to propose...they are chafed from ####ing you. :lmao:

I had a boatload of laundry to fold, so I just watched two movies that I think are pretty crappy:

  • The Last King, Norwegian with subtitles - set in the 1200s, nothing in it is any good.
  • Godzilla, Japanese with subtitles - it's a new series, and this was the kickoff movie.  Animated.  The animation was interesting, but the movie blew and I won't return for the rest of the series.

The gf is a fan of anime so we tried Crybaby Devilman. Hoooooly hell what did I watch? This has to easily be one of the most grapic shows ever on Netflix. Sex and violence galore. I still struggle to get through some of the clunky writing that seems to be a foundation for the genre and I can't fully get into the whole anime styles, but this was a pretty solid show. Sooooooo graphic.

Stumbled across "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman" on Netflix. It is Dave's new monthly "talk show" that features one guest per hour long episode. First up was Barack Obama. I enjoyed it and look forward to George Clooney on the next episode.

So the take away I have here is approximately 4 hours of folding? I know you have a baseball team at your house but holy hell man, my family doesn't own 4 hours of clothes to fold ;-)

Started watching Longmire.

This isn't great television.  It reminds me of a typical cop show from the 70's.  Cracking a new case each episode.

Not a lot of cast members for them to develop a lot of interesting stories.  I like it enough to keep watching it as a time waster.

this is where I was with it too. it's not bad, but didn't captivate me in any way. stopped at two or three episodes... too many other things to watch when I have time to watch.

i though the alternative carbon show looked cool to brohans i saw an ad during football yesterday and i will probably watch it i liked that one with will smith a little bit ago with orks and stuff and thought it was neat and very sci fi which is neat so take that to the bank brochachos

we started watching Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable, a "documentary" about  the story behind a recent Damien Hirst exhibition. a couple minutes in, the wife and I both come to the same conclusion that it's not a documentary at all, but a fictional myth creation behind his work which is claimed to have been discovered in the ocean off the coast of africa. after a couple viewings, we're about 2/3 through... can't tell if it's brilliant (the style is pretty high quality for a documentary- it's well made- plus the concept is pretty interesting to me, creating a creation story for the exhibit) or crap (the "discovered" art and objects are a bit hokey and the writing and delivery is a bit too 'written' rather than off the cuff the way a doc should feel). not sure I"m going to finish it, but it's gotten me thinking about art at least.

I watched the first episode of Mindhunters. The lead is such a bad actor and the dialogue/direction is extremely awkward at times. When he met his girlfriend in the bar it was cringeworthy. IMO.
we're all pretty much in agreement about that... and I wish I could say it gets better. there's some discussion about whether the actor is doing a bad job, or if it's just that the character is meant (written) to be that way. either way, it's a bit distracting. but at the end of the day, doesn't interfere with what becomes a pretty compelling tv show.

Thanks... maybe I'll give it a couple more episodes and see how it goes.

Finally started getting back into Mr. Robot (s02e02) last night.  Really need to catch up on that, Better Call Saul s03 and Fargo s03.  No spoilers plix

it's definitely worth the watch, IMO. IIRC, it takes a bit to get rolling- most of the first episodes are history/back story into the creation of what he's doing and not really about actually using profiling. it got better for me once the show started getting into that more.

for you crown fans or crownhans as i like to call them also try out victoria it is on amazonian prime if you have it and it is pretty good and it has a dr who girl as victoria so you can keep up with your inner nerd to take that to the bank brohans

Yeah, I'm probably in the minority here, but I quite like the portrayal of Holden...socially awkward, yet brave enough to start something new, and condident enough in himself to challenge and go against management/authority to achieve the goals of his project.  His deadpan personality just feels right.

The girlfriend, however, is all kinds of meh.  More Anna Torv is needed...because, well, Anna Torv

i found it mostly disappointing. that's not to say it's not watchable but expectations were not met. i don't think i'll be looking at S2 unless something changes.

exactly how i felt about it

it doesn't really go anywhere
i sort of feel like the socially-awkward-nerdy-but-brilliant detective/doctor/chef/whatever is currently tapped out. it's sad that it ended for me with this guy on this show but whatever. after recent years of this being overdone - thank you Cumberpatch for starting it - audiences may have become too accustom to it but it needs to take a break. instead of TV's torture porn ("Hannibal", for example) perhaps it's worth revisiting old episodes of "Columbo" instead?

I didn't go back to look and the search function is fruitless, so I'll just ask.  Sorry if it's been discussed already.

Anyone else watch "The End of the F***ing World"?  What an odd show.  8 episodes, all 20-22 minutes long, so you can binge it in under 3 hours if so desired.  Ultimately a (very) black comedy about teen angst through the lens of of two wayward British 17 year olds.

Literally watching right now. On episode 5. It's pretty good but I'm glad it's short.

Totally agree.  Would have been really easy to become "too much" - the small doses kept it palatable.
I'm in about the same spot.

but there have been a few moments that had me genuinely laughing out loud- the girl in particular has some good lines. also liked seeing the boy finally punch his completely undeserving dad in the face.

I haven't watched it yet, but saw the little commercial last time I was on Netflix.  The kid is also from Black Mirror, where he whacked it to child pron and killed some dude.

Almost finished with "Atlanta" and it's a big hit with me. Funny, bubbling with ideas, and decidedly original. I really like a show that I don't know where any episode is going, much less the season.
Big fan and the new season starts March 1 iirc

So was that it? No season 2? If so that was a pretty good little contained story.

"Houston We Have a Problem" - a fake documentary about the US buying Yugoslavia's space program after falling behind the Russians.

Sweet baby ...this was bad.  Like laboriously bad.  I like the genre and subject matter - and it was highly rated and award-winning.  I suffered through the entire thing - though I shouldn't have.

Watching the new season of Friday Night Tykes ...h-o-l-y ####.  How these coaches can continue to become bigger and bigger #######s is amazing.

Several of them just need to be taken behind the woodshed and jacked up.  Just the worst kind of humans.
