Can't recommend this show enough at this point. So, so good.
Good to hear.  Season 1 is starting to lose me, especially ep 14.

Deciding between these

1.  Dark

2. People vs OJ

3.  Outlander

any strong opinions?
Never saw Outlander.

Dark if you want something more cerebral and subtitles.

OJ if you want to turn your brain off and still enjoy a show that's pretty darned good.

I think Dark was the best of those... but tbh I didn't keep going with outlander, although given the posts in here lately I might check back in with it. and OJ was a decent watch, especially if the original story was interesting to you (didn't boggle my scrotum the way it did for many others).

after having forgotten to continue past S1, I've gone back in to The Expanse thanks to you lot... a few eps into S2- good, fun stuff.

I liked season 1 but found that 99% of the problems the characters come across is created by the stupid sales guy. If he wasn't a toxic moron and didn't inflict so much damage to people around him, life would be so much better for everyone.
he's really the least interesting, compelling of the characters. i was glad to see the show re-focus the storyline around Cameron and Donna particularly. Joe, as played by Pace, is largely one-note after the first few episodes of S1.

Outlander would be the best Lifetime show ever. Right, @James DaultonD  ?

we wrapped up The Informer last night. definitely recommend, but with some caveats.

it hits some big bumps along the way with some goofy motives/writing (for the motives/actions), and I found the who-dunnit reveal to be cringe/groan-worthy.

that said- the rest is pretty excellent and still justifies watching this, IMO. great casting and acting- especially raza (eta: Nabhaan Rizwan... google says it's his tv debut), who gives a star-making performance. paddy considine is fantastic, as is most everybody else. I think the expression is "mise en scene"- the show nails it (at least to an outsider)... putting me into the sounds, looks and feel of a london I'd never get to know (immigrants, council-housing, kebab-shops, art-school, etc) that even if fake, never felt it. well filmed, well acted, well written (in terms of dialogue)... just has some moments that make you question what's going on (unfortunately) and an truly unfortunate reveal.
we finished this last night and liked the series quite a bit. it got a little choppy in the storytelling - mostly with some loss of focus - but was still good. it's like a lot of shows in that could have been a pretty amazing 4 episode series but they padded it to make 6. i thought the final episode was especially flabby but whatever. lots of shows struggle to wrap things up effectively.

Joseph Campbell The Power of Myth

For those that like documentaries, this is really good. It has Bill Moyers interviewing Campbell for nearly 6 hours on his work in mythology.

As far as I know, this is the longest recorded piece of him talking in depth on a lot of his theories.

Fwiw, almost all of his lectures were recorded in one way or another. My brother worked for the Joseph Campbell foundation for years, sifting through those lectures, compiling themes and editing/transcribing them into "new" Joseph Campbell books. Iirc, he only wrote a couple of books himself ... Hero with a thousand faces, obviously.

That's a cool thing that your brother did.

It is also good to know that so much has been recorded, thnx.

Just got to the end of S1 last night.  Great first season.  I am not debating on going on vs. what I did with GOT and read the books first before going with more of the show.

I'm 6 or 7 into s2- might have gotten better.

Eta... It says "not" but can't tell if you meant "now". You debating reading first or not reading first?

George Powell, the Guy featured in episode 1 of Exhibit A got granted a new trial 2 days ago.  Show premiered today I think.  Wild timing.

Meant now debating.  I found the first 3 books on sale, and they will be arriving tomorrow.

Let's make a list for instant-gratification movie fans. Try to limit recommendations to those you don't have to order and wait a couple days for them to arrive. (I know, Netflix switches these around once in a while, but let's stick with ones we ouselves have "watched instantly".)

My recommendation would be a very cool English series called "Wire In the Blood". It's about a nerdy psychology professor who profiles serial killers and helps the police catch them. I know - it sounds like a familiar setup - but this series is actually very well done, it is more graphic than what you tend to see on American TV, and the acting is terrific. I've watched all six seasons on my computer (via Netflix) and the only clunker in the bunch was one movie done separately from the series where the main character went to America to testify in a Texas trial. The rest of them were very well done.
Still in my queue idk.

Just watched half of Always Be My Maybe with Ali Wong and Randall Park (stopped as wife needs to sleep).

Hilarious. Really enjoying it so far.

Started "Dead to Me" the other night. Applegate and Cardellini are pretty good together. I've decided that Applegate has the same kind of line delivery as Jason Bateman.

Wife and I finished the 2 seasons available on Netflix. I really like this show.

when we first started it I kind of dismissed the show as simply a “romance”. My wife reads all this romance fiction, typically similar to the premise of this show, and the show was based on a 9 book series by a romance author whose work my wife was somewhat familiar with.

I have to say, those last few episodes of S1 were some of the most disturbing TV I’ve ever watched. I was really squirming. Someone else I think mentioned GOT similarities. I can see that a bit, in terms of the graphic ness and disturbing content.

I guess there are 4 seasons at the moment with a 5th currently in production. I read some speculation that 3/4 won’t be available on Netflix until season  5 is ready for release. Really good show though and Claire is amazing. Beautiful women and dominates the screen.

Had a lot of potential.  First half was good.  Second half was a rough watch.
Agreed somewhat.  I wouldn't call it a rough watch, but it slowed down.  After the dinner scene, it was just "ok".  It's a romantic comedy but there's some funny stuff.  1st half definitely > 2nd half, though.

Not sure if these have been mentioned or not of late....

Dark (season 2) - I liked season 1, I loved season 2.  Binged this one in just a few days.  I really like how they are able to answer some questions/close some loops and then bring another wrinkle into the equation having you want to learn more.  Everything interweaves with each other so nicely.  Sure, I have some questions and am partially confused on some time lines, but it seems when I have questions they get answered or addressed further on down the road. And they do a pretty good job how the mannerisms of characters along different time lines match so you really feel like it's the same character at a different age.  I dunno, but it just really clicks for me.  Mild spoiler but the very last scene of season two opened a wtf moment which I didn't really like.  But, I read there will be a final season #3 and I trust that will tie everything up and give a natural conclusion to things.  I trust that and look forward to it.

Locked Up (Vis a Vis) - Just started season 1 and this is a show I also enjoy.  My wife says it's a show made totally for guys and if young, fit, nipply women in prisons is wrong I'm not sure I want to be right.  Seriously though, it's got a decent story, villains are pretty solid, the bumbling father and brother crack me up and the lead is quite fetching which never hurts.  Just finished episode 9, and if you don't like it by the 2nd or 3rd episode, feel free to hit eject button.

The Rain (season 2) - I watched season one pretty quickly and I totally get the criticisms of the show.  it's not the greatest by any means.  But I liked the story arc for the most part and did find myself enthralled by the travails of the heroes and certainly rooted for them throughout.  End of season 1 kind of got things off the rails and into a Resident Evil type feel.  And well, Season 2 is kind of blech.  Pretty sure I'm tapping out on this one sooner rather than later as it's a story i no longer feel myself compelled to see what happens next.

the new Aziz Ansari stand up Right Now. I'm a fan of his but this was just terrible.

He spent 60% of the show whispering into the microphone.
i saw him perform live a few months ago. i was underwhelmed by the material. he's a funny guy but this misconduct allegation seems to have put him in a weird headspace.

What should my next stand up specials be? There are so many to pick from.

I have watched Jeffries, Ellen, Rogan, Burr, Oswalt, Gaffigan, Jeselnik and Katt

Looking at: Jo Koy, Hart, Gervais, Birbiglia, Hannibal, Devine, Bargatze

My historical favorites are Gaffigan, Black and CK

I see there's a Money Heist part 3 dropping July 19. News to me. Probably will be disappointing but I'll give it a shot.

I'm 4 or 5 in... feels more dense than last year, but in a good way. been a struggle trying to keep up with who's/who/when, but I'm definitely enjoying it... especially since I'm not watching it dubbed this season. agree that it seems to provide answers or explanations along the way. I've enjoyed the casting too- while the women, young and old, are sneaky pretty... they're not all "good looking actors" types. even the middle-older aged women get to look and act their age instead of being played by 30-somethings as they would be in the US. very interested in seeing where it goes.
